Abstract

Higher education is not immune to the challenges posed by a society that is changing quickly. These problems strongly encourage universities to prioritize the caliber of their professors and provide adequate chances for professional growth. However, addressing the unique requirements, expertise, and objectives stated by the faculty actually boosts the effectiveness of any institutional faculty development program. Instruction, research, and extension form the triad of academic responsibilities that define the role of faculty in higher education institutions along with the faculty professional growth. Reputable and highly competent academic members are crucial to a university's goals. This descriptive study was conducted to assess the faculty development needs and priorities of the faculty at the West Visayas State University – Lambunao Campus.  It includes the faculty needs in terms of instruction, research, extension, and professional development. A random sampling was employed involving 78 faculty members representing the respective department in the campus assessing the competency in instruction, engagement in research, and extension, and support for professional development. An adopted and researchers-made questionnaires, duly validated, were used as instruments. Frequency, mean, and standard deviation were used as statistical tools. The result of the study revealed that the faculty have a very high level of competence in terms of instruction but they have a low engagement in research and extension activities.  Furthermore, the result showed that the faculty had a low level of support for professional development. Based on the results, a need for faculty development program should be crafted focusing in the needs for research and extension engagements as well as the program towards professional development.

Abstract

Ecotourism offers a promising pathway for sustainable development by integrating environmental conservation, community engagement, and economic opportunities. Barangay Tinorian in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, Philippines, exemplifies the potential for community-based ecotourism focused on the Tinorian River. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and practices of local stakeholders in ecotourism entrepreneurship and environmental conservation. It identified needs and gaps in their current engagement with ecotourism. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combined quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with residents, community leaders, business owners, entrepreneurs, and government agencies. The findings showed that stakeholders possess moderate knowledge of environmental conservation principles and business management. While they demonstrate strong technical skills in ecotourism and positive attitudes towards sustainable ecotourism, their practical engagement in ecotourism activities remains moderate. Through Focused Group Discussions (FGD) and Key Informant Interviews (KII), the study identified the need for greater community involvement in decision-making, stronger conservation efforts, and the integration of cultural preservation into ecotourism. The study also identified potential socioeconomic benefits of ecotourism, such as income generation and job creation, while acknowledging identified challenges. These insights were used to develop targeted capacity-building programs to enhance stakeholders' knowledge and skills, promote community-based tourism enterprises, and foster partnerships between local government, NGOs, and grassroots organizations. The recommendations from the study emphasized the importance of institutional support and policy frameworks to ensure sustainable ecotourism development. A strategic roadmap was developed to leverage ecotourism and conduct participatory community extension programs to translate knowledge into effective conservation actions and sustainable ecotourism entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Considering how the digital economy is always evolving, Digital transformation is essential to the long-term, high-caliber growth of businesses... The study adopts qualitative research methods, through field research and analysis of Yamazaki Mazak, Siemens AMTC and Speedcargo Technologies during TUM project visit in Singapore, and through semi-structured interviews with company executives and experts. Combined with the analysis of relevant literature and industry reports, this article thoroughly examines how digital transformation may support the growth of businesses. The study's findings demonstrate the critical role that digital transformation plays in the superior growth of manufacturing companies.  By enhancing their operational capacities and competitiveness in the market, these companies are able to sustain their competitive advantages. This transformation not only affects enterprise value through internal and external factors, but also promotes the overall improvement of enterprise operating efficiency and production. Internal factors include the degree of product innovation, product quality, etc., while external factors generally include customer satisfaction and the impact of relevant national policies. The study suggests that enterprises, with the support of relevant favorable government policies, have a strategic digital transformation to gain competitive advantage as early as possible. Today, digital transformation in the era of digital economy seems to be driving enterprises to a new future. How enterprises should seize the opportunity of digital transformation, so as to improve the operation capacity and market competitiveness, and have a positive impact on the future high-quality development of enterprises, is worthy of attention and thinking.
