Abstract

This study aims to investigate the causes of the online learning ineffectiveness at State Junior High School (SMPN) 3 Pendopo. The design of the study was a field research. The subjects of the study consisted of teachers, administrative staff, and students in grade 7 that were recruited using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by conducting online interviews, observations, and data identification. Data were then analyzed using the inductive approach of Miles and Huberman, which included collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusion. The results of the study showed that at SMPN 3 Pendopo, online learning system has not run well due to inefficient method, inadequate facilities and infrastructures, and students’ lack of awareness of the importance of online learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between students’ quality of college life and their academic hardiness. The quantitative method was used in combination with a correlational approach. The measuring instrument used was an adaptation of QCL Measure by Sirgy (2007) and Academic Hardiness Scale by Benishek (2005). The population of the study was 105 students majoring in psychology at a private university in Jakarta, while the sample consisted of 89 students. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation test to obtain the correlation coefficient between the two variables. The results of the study showed that the quality of college life has a significant relationship with students’ academic hardiness. It is suggested that education institutions enforce the quality of college life aspect that has the strongest relationship with academic hardiness, which is the academic aspect. The academic aspect encompasses the quality of lecturers, learning environments, and learning materials.

Abstract

This research is aimed to determine the relationship between family well being and the students’ aggressiveness. The proposed hypothesis is that there is a negative relationship between family well being and aggressiveness of junior high school students. Quantitative research method with correlational research was used to conduct this study. The sample of this study was 172 students recruited from 338 students in the population by implementing simple random sampling technique. Likert scale model was used as data collection technique to measure the family well being and aggressiveness. Pearson’s Product Moment correlation technique with the help of SPSS 16.0 for Windows was performed to analyze the data. The results showed that there was -0.225 correlation coefficient  with the significance value of 0.001 <0.05, meaning that there is a negative relationship between family well being and aggressiveness among the seventh grade students of a private junior high school in Buduran sub-district. It means that the higher the family well being is, the lower the aggressiveness is and vice versa. Family well being contributes 4.5% to the aggressiveness variable.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between parental social support and academic self-efficacy among senior high school students who took cram schools to prepare for State University Joint Entrance Exams (SBMPTN). This was a correlational study with a quantitative approach. The population of the study was the high school students in the city of Bekasi who took cram schools to prepare for SBMPTN. The sample of this study was 100 students derived from the population using purposive sampling technique. The instruments of the study were the parental social support scale and the academic self-efficacy scale. Data were analyzed using correlation analysis technique. The results of the study showed there is a significant relationship between parental social support and academic self-efficacy with the r value 0.624 and the significance value 0.000 (p=0.01). The positive relationship indicates that the higher the parental social support, the higher students’ academic self-efficacy. On the contrary, the lower the parental social support, the lower students’ academic self-efficacy.

Abstract

This study is aimed to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) among students in Faculty of Medicine, University of Nusa Cendana. This analytical observational research implemented cross sectional design with stratified random sampling technique on preclinical medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Nusa Cendana, in the academic years of 2017, 2018, and 2019. A total of 156 respondents which fulfilled the inclusion criteria were recruited in this study by filling questionnaires of Schutte emotional intelegence scale (SEIS) and self-directed learning readiness scale (SDLRS) analyzed using Somer’s d test. The results of the study showed that: (1) there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and SDLR of the students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Nusa Dua (p<0.05) with strong correlation coefficient (r: 0.534); (2) there were 127 preclinical medical students (81.41%) with a high level of emotional intelligence and 29 preclinical medical students (18.59%) had a moderate level of emotional intelligence, but none of them had a low level of emotional intelligence; and (3) there were 84 preclinical medical students (53.84) who had high level of SDLR and 72 (46.16%) with a moderate level of SDLR, but none of them had a low SDLR level.
