Abstract

This article originates from qualitative research in the field of philosophy using the philosophical hermeneutic method. The author of this article aims to understand the principle of polong renten as the root of the harmonious life of a pluralistic society in North Lombok by using the perspective of solidarity theory from the thoughts of Richard Rorty. The results of the analysis that has been carried out yield an understanding that: 1) The theory of solidarity from Richard Rorty's thought is rooted in the contingency principle in language, individual, and social dimensions. It is this awareness of contingency that forms the establishment of social relations based on conscience in understanding one another, not based on views of absolute truth. 2) The principle of polong renten is the wisdom of the people of North Lombok in accepting the diversity of life. This principle is internalized and applied with an orientation towards a harmonious life even with differences, both ethnic and religious. 3) The application and appreciation of the principle of polong renten show that the people of North Lombok have an awareness of life that is contingent on all differences and changes that are acceptable. Solidarity in the people of North Lombok is based not on a view of truth that is considered absolute, such as religion, ethnicity, or consanguinity, but is based on various vocabularies which always has a process oriented towards living together based on conscience and social sensitivity in maintaining a harmonious life.

Abstract

Democracy is often interpreted as a system of government based on the sovereignty of the people. Democracy is considered an ideal system to be implemented in various countries, including Indonesia. However, in reality, the implementation of democracy in Indonesia still results in various forms of discrimination, centralisation of power, and injustice. The researcher seeks to understand the dynamics of the application and understanding of democracy in Indonesia by using the hermeneutic method, through tracing the historical continuity that occurred. The study conducted resulted in the understanding that: (1) Democracy in Indonesia has experienced its ups and downs from the independence period to the reformation period with various forms of implementation. The reformation period became one of the gates as well as a bridge from the transfer of centralised power to civilian-held decentralisation. (2) The multi-party system is one of the results of the decentralisation of power during the reformation period. The implementation of the multi-party system encourages multi-dynasty politics, due to political personalisation and patronage culture within each party. (3) The development of digital social media encourages the manipulation of signs that are the result of reality reduction. A democratic image is built through digital social media as a representation of siding with the people by the elites. However, the democratic image built through digital social media is in line with the monopoly of the concept of democracy in favour of certain groups, which is then a driving factor in the occurrence of social polarisation in every political contestation.

Abstract

Existential isolation has become a problem that makes anxiety. Existential isolation is an academic term for ramification in three fields of science namely phenomenology, humanistic psychology, and existentialism. All three fields are in the realm of philosophy. Existential isolation in phenomenology focuses on the individual's direct experience and personal understanding of reality as the main subject that is worthy of attention. This research employed the existential-phenomenological method by investigating the mode of human existence in the pandemic situation. A study of existential isolation is illustrated by two characters, Rieux and Paneleux, in Albert Camus' novel, La Peste. The results of this study are (1) the meaning of existential isolation was anxiety and fear of death; (2) the existential isolation of Camus was in Rieux and Paneloux while witnessing death and then experiencing solitude. Kierkegaard's existential isolation exists in childhood experiences as his father gives examples of unscrupulous life and the cancellation of an engagement with Regine Olsen; (3) the juxtaposition between Camus and Kierkegaard's thoughts for citizens of Indonesia can be found in the idea of subjectivity, the vitality of life, and communication. The recommendations of this research are anchored in the ethics of care in the pandemic era.

Abstract

Metaphysics in philosophical thought is considered as "fundamental philosophy" as well as "the basis of philosophy". Efforts to reveal about "being", "the way of being" is part of metaphysics. There is an interesting debate between the dvaita vedānta (Śańkarācārya) with the monistic concept and the dvaita Vedānta of the Madhvācārya and its dualistic concept. The results of this study are 1). Śańkarācārya recognizes only one reality namely Brahman, apart from that it is unreal, even according to Śańkarācārya this world is unreal. The real world is the influence of the maya. Jiva is identical with Brahman, and the ultimate reality is Brahman. 2) Madhvācarya put forward the dvaita theory by explaining everything in pairs, according to Madhvācārya God is different from Jiva, Jiva is different from one another, God is different from thing, Jiva is different from thing and one thing is different from other things.

Abstract

This article is the result of qualitative research through literature study and observation. The object studied in this article is the phenomenon of cyberbullying ahead of the 2024 general election in Indonesia. While the analysis process carried out uses the hermeneutic method with the perspective of Jacques Lacan's thought. Based on the research that has been done, it is found that: (1) Jacques Lacan is a post-modern philosopher who has successfully brought psychoanalytic studies into philosophical studies. Lacan developed the discourse of the unconscious in psychoanalytic thought by presenting his views on the stages of development of the Subject, namely the Real, the Imaginary, and the Symbolic. (2) The practice of cyberbullying ahead of the 2024 general election is carried out with the aim of bringing down individuals, groups, or groups that have different directions of political support. Various bullying vocabularies are used to identify and bring down different parties symbolically. (3) The phenomenon of cyberbullying approaching the 2024 political year shows the Subject's entrapment into the Symbolic. With various bullying vocabularies addressed to parties with different political support, the Subject is increasingly falling into the pit of castration (jouissance) which keeps him away from fulfilment and wholeness at the stage of the Real that he desires.
