Abstract

Student’s experiences in learning plays an essential role in producing quality academic achievement. This study aimed to develop multiple regression models on the students’ experiences in learning mathematics in regards to its influencing factors. A simple random sampling of 112 grade 11 students in the first semester of school year 2018-2019 from Visayas State University were used as the respondents of this study. Result of the study reveals that grade 11 students’ learning experience in general mathematics is challenging and logical. However, it is found out that it is satisfying and rewarding since it develops their critical thinking and decision making in real life. The number of hours in studying and studying with internet positively influence the students’ learning experience in mathematics. It is also revealed that STEM students are more fond learning mathematics compare to non-STEM students. Furthermore, result also shows that a conducive learning environment and religious activities in the campus helps the students to have a peaceful and positive learning experience.

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of the results of the development of social attitude assessment instrument and social studies learning outcomes of grade IV on theme of Indahnya Keragaman di Negeriku. The development model used in this study is the 4D model. The 4D model consists of four stages: define, design, develop and disseminate. These four stages of the development model are used as a reference in producing and validating developed assessment instruments. The validation of the assessment instrument was carried out by two subject matter experts and 113 students for field trials. Data collected by questionnaire and test methods. The test instrument used was an objective test to assess student learning outcomes and the non-test instrument used was a questionnaire to assess students' social attitudes. The results of this study were the content validity test of 1.00 including the very high category, the item validity test produced 36 valid test items, the reliability test of 0.820 included very high criteria, the analysis of different power problems obtained 3 very good questions, 15 good enough questions, 11 questions good, and 7 questions are not good, the difficulty level analysis shows that there are 22 questions with easy criteria and 14 questions with moderate criteria.

Abstract

This study arose in regards to the importance of constructing high quality multiple-choice tests (MCTs) that follow the norms in making a good MCT. The norms are considered important as they can make the tests relevant to the learning objectives and ease the test-takers in taking the test. This study which aimed to investigate the quality of teacher-made MCTs used as summative assessment for English subject at SMP Laboratorium Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. 3 teacher-made MCTs with 40 items for each test were taken as the samples that represent each grade. The data were collected through document study by comparing each of the teacher-made MCTs item with the norms in making a good MCT that were then clarified through interview. The comparison is then classified in order to determine the quality. The results show that the quality of the teacher-made MCTs are very good with 106 items (88%) qualified as very good and 14 items (12%) that qualified as good. However, there are some norms that need more attention as they are rarely fulfilled.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) developing a mathematics assessment instrument based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS); and describe the quality of the instrument. This study was a research and development study adapting 4D model from Thiagarajan. The model including the following steps : (1) define, (2) design, (3) develop, and (4) desseminate. Due to limited of time, this research was only carried out until the developing step. The result shows that the instrument that consists of 18 essay test item are valid and appropriate to be used. The instrumen’s reliability coefficients are 0.659 (High). The instrument has the average of item discrimination  0.44 (Very Good) and the average of item difficulty of the instrument are 0.584 (Medium). The conclusion is the assessment instrument is feasibel being as an assessment instrumen to measure the high order thinking skill toward two-dimentional geometry topic.

Abstract

This study aimed at describing the English for Food and beverage service materials needed by students of SMK SMSR Ubud, describing how the materials were developed, and analysing the quality of the developed materials. This study used research and development model suggested by (Richey and Klein, 2007) comprising design, development and evaluation. The instruments used were questionnaires, interview guides, document analysis, and checklist. The findings of this study show that there were 7 topics needed to be developed included Preparing restaurant area, preparing and set up table, greet the guest, taking order, serving food, closing restaurant area, and non-alcoholic beverage. The materials were designed by following the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) material design suggested by Hutchinson and Waters (1987) involving input, content focus, language focus and task. Since English for food and beverage is part of ESP that is under English for Occupational Purposes, the effectiveness of the developed materials was evaluated using the criteria of good ESP materials suggested by Litz (2005), Hutchinson and Waters (2008), and Tomlinson (2009). After gaining the scores from the expert judges, the data then used the categorization of good teaching materials proposed by Nurkancana and Sunartana (2011). The quality of the developed materials was categorized as good material. Thus, it can be used as a main source for learning English Food and beverage service at SMK SMSR Ubud.
