Abstract

The wave of migration that hit the European Union since 2015 had a political and security impact on both EU institutions and its member states. The policy of sharing responsibility or immigrant quotas did not get agreement from the Visegrad countries. Several previous studies that used a constructivist approach explained that the rejection occurred due to the securitization of immigrants in each country. This article seeks to understand the resistance of the Visegrad states from a critical perspective by using the concept of politicization of security. The research method used is qualitative with an analysis of existing data in online news media, European Union documents, and scientific journals. The article found that the politicization of security toward immigrants in each Visegrad country happened on public discourse and political campaigns by government elites and political parties. The purpose of this security politicization was to perpetuate power relations.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: industri wisata pesiar, negara berkembang, perusahaan transnasional, rasialisasi, tenaga kerja Abstract The global cruise industry is a unique representation of globalization due to the employment of multinational crews. Working on cruise is an appealing option for employees, most of whom are from developing countries, with only a small portion of workers from developed countries. This industry, however, is inextricably linked to issues of discrimination and exploitation of workers particularly from developing countries. This article intends to discuss the issues of job segregation of global labour in cruise industry by referring to the concept of the racialization of global labour as an analytical framework. This article employed a descriptive qualitative method by acquiring data from literature study. It is concluded that racialization of labour in the cruise industry is reflected in working conditions and positions that place workers from developing nations at the bottom of the labour hierarchy. In an exploitative system, racializing labour by assigning people to jobs based on race creates a framework that favors the industry's capitalists. Keywords: cruise tourism industry, developing countries, labour, racialization, transnational corporations

Abstract

This research examines the realization of EU policies by Denmark in dealing with global warming through the utilization of renewable energy, with research questions, why and how the Danish mechanism in implement the policy. Denmark issued a comprehensive and integral advanced policy to respond to these threats and is considered a pioneer in the implementation of EU policies. This study explores the Danish experience using three threats of environmental security according to Barry Buzan's theory of Security. This analysis used a qualitative method with a critical approach to the implementation of Denmark in tackling the threat of global warming. The results show that the Danish’s success in realizing the EU policy is based on the eagerness to remove the stigma as a country that produces the highest greenhouse gas emissions in the world, according to the Brundtland Commission. Denmark formed three agencies under the Ministry of the Environment, which formulate a plan specifically to deal with the threat of global warming, along with the implementation of its actions. Denmark optimizes the use of renewable energy, especially wind energy as a follow-up policy instrument.

Abstract

This study explains Uyghurs human rights violation in Xinjiang, where Saudi Arabia as world Islamic country has responded in passive way by not doing bold actions to defend the fellow Uyghurs muslims. In the meantime, the relationship between Saudi Arabia and China have become stronger as these countries become dependent towards each other, specifically with its economic cooperation especially under Belt and Road Initiatives. With the qualitative method, there is a high possibility that China utilizes passive response from Saudi Arabia as Saudi Arabia signed a joint-statement to appreciate China’s action on the issue against Uyghurs Muslims. This will lead to the Saudi Arabia’s economic interests as the reason behind its passive action in facing the human rights issue in Xinjiang as as Saudi Arabia is trying to maintain its normality with China for the sake of its bilateral relationship.

Abstract

Abstract

The geopolitical dynamics of the Indo-Pacific region are also influenced by the cooperation and competition between China, Japan, and India in the space realm. Indonesia, which is in the middle of this geopolitical area and has a national interest in space, is in a situation that is both opportunistic and challenging. By using the concept of pragmatic equidistance and space diplomacy, this paper discusses the situation of Indonesia's space diplomatic relations amidst the three primary spacefaring nations. This paper concludes that Indonesia naturally keeps its distance and tries to take advantage of these conditions, but has not yet systematically and actively used a comprehensive strategy to deal with all three for its own national space interests and agenda.
