Abstract

This study examines how digital marketing, product enhancement, and virality affect the sustainability of MSMEs, with consumer behavior as an intervening factor. The research employed statistical methods on a sample of 160 MSMEs from the East Java MSME population. Data analysis was conducted using path analysis techniques, preceded by classical assumption tests. The findings indicate a significant direct impact of digital marketing, product enhancement, and virality on consumer behavior and MSMEs’ sustainability. Additionally, consumer behavior was found to have a significant direct influence on the sustainability of MSMEs. Furthermore, the research reveals a significant indirect effect of digital marketing, product enhancement, and virality on the sustainability of MSMEs through the mediation of consumer behavior. The conclusion obtained means that digital marketing, product upgrading and virality have an influence on consumer behavior. These four things influence the sustainability of MSMEs.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Servicescape on personal branding and the competitive advantage of local community lodges in Indonesia’s growing tourism industry. Local community lodges offer authentic cultural experiences and are increasingly sought after by tourists. However, these lodges have some issues with organizational management, which are limited to traditional management techniques and need to promote their services. The study was conducted in Sawiran Community Lodge in Malang, East Java, which has faced problems with ineffective management and the non-implementation of standard operating procedures. The study utilizes a mixed-method approach, including direct observation, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and purposive sampling with 148 associates of the community lodge. The research reveals that a well-designed Servicescape influences the physical, social, and digital environment and positively impacts the lodges’ competitive advantage and personal branding. The findings suggest that by improving the Servicescape and adhering to standardized operating procedures (SOPs), local community lodges can enhance personal branding mediated by competitive advantages (e.g., guest experience, differentiation from competitors, healthy occupancy rate, and fostering a strong sense of pride among employees). This, in turn, can lead to increased income and a more sustainable tourism model, benefiting both residents and visitors. The research underscores the need for community lodges to adapt to modern practices such as digital marketing, customer relationship management, and sustainable operations to maintain relevance and appeal in a competitive market.

Abstract

East Java is one of the major sugar-producing provinces in Indonesia, home to sugar firms that have been operating for more than a century. However, the annual increase in sugar consumption has not been matched by a corresponding increase in production. Therefore, this study examines the efficiency of the sugar industry in East Java using an output-oriented approach, which separates persistent and transient inefficiencies, as well as an input-oriented approach that examines the use of machinery and energy, along with the determinants of inefficiency. This study applies the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) method, utilizing microdata from Statistik Industri (SI). The results reveal a trend of decreasing returns to scale in the sugar industry in East Java. Inefficiency in the sugar industry is primarily driven by persistent inefficiency, indicating the presence of structural problems. Furthermore, production inefficiency was found to be higher than inefficiency related to the use of machinery and energy. Export intensity has been shown to reduce inefficiencies in production, machinery use, and energy use. Additionally, greater reliance on imported materials contributes to lower energy inefficiency, while increased market concentration tends to exacerbate production inefficiency.

Abstract

The problem of the declining trend in the percentage of labor and the contribution of the agricultural sector to ADHB GRDP in the last decade indicates the risk of future unsustainability that has a negative impact on the economy of East Java. This study aims to assess the risk of unsustainability of the agricultural sector in East Java based on the vulnerability of internal characteristics of workers. The research method combines cluster analysis and logistic regression on 8 internal characteristics of agricultural workers to calculate the probability of vulnerability. Impact was assessed from historical data on the decline in the number of workers and the contribution of the agricultural sector to GRDP. The risk level was obtained by multiplying the values of opportunity and impact. The results show that East Java Province as a whole has a high level of risk of agricultural sector unsustainability, with details of 3 districts/cities having a very low level of risk, 6 low, 21 high, and 8 very high. Further analysis revealed that areas with higher risk levels generally have agricultural workers with characteristics of older age, low education level, minimal use of technology, low income, short working hours, long working period, low financial bookkeeping, and high informal status. The research conclusions emphasize the importance of prioritizing risk management in areas with high/very high risk levels while still paying attention to areas with very low/low risk levels. Risk management suggestions include: Preventive is carried out in areas with high opportunities and impacts, focusing on improving workers' skills and knowledge and encouraging the adoption of technology. Directive is carried out for areas with small opportunities but large impacts, conducting.

Abstract

The tourism sector is one of the important aspects in improving the economy of a region, including Banyuwangi. The Banyuwangi Regency Government took steps to make tourism a leading sector in supporting the economy. Efforts to increase economic stability and resilience can be made by optimizing tourism, which includes tourist destinations, restaurants and inns. Utilizing social media to analyze tourist reviews is a strategy in optimizing tourism. The purpose of this research is to analyze the sentiment of tourists in Banyuwangi. Sentiment analysis approach with Lexicon-based method analyzed with Support Vector Machine algorithm is done to find out the opinion of tourists about tourist sites in Banyuwangi. The analysis results show that the SVM algorithm can provide a fairly good performance with an accuracy of more than 70%. Based on sentiment analysis, improving the online reservation system and regular training for staff will reduce visitor dissatisfaction regarding waiting time and service quality. In addition, maintaining natural beauty and aesthetics through environmental conservation programs can increase Banyuwangi’s tourism attractiveness and support the hospitality, restaurant and transportation sectors. The government can implement policies that are more responsive to the needs and desires of tourists, thereby increasing visitor satisfaction and strengthening the competitiveness of the tourism sector.

Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate spill-over effects of green economic growth and the role of driving factors across 38 districts in East Java. Using the 2018-2022 period, this paper measures Green Total Factor Productivity (GTFP) as the proxy of green economic development at sub-national level in East Java, while ICT index, fiscal-related policy, environmental regulation, and foreign direct investment are applied as the determinants of green growth. Emission in GTFP levels are the impact of household activities, the agricultural sector, and the processing industry. We find the persistence and appealing pattern of GTFP over the time, indicated by the increasing number of districts which generate green productivity index over. The results show the existence of spatial dependence and spatial-spillover effect in terms of green economic development in East Java, meaning that the increasing index of green productivity in a district tends to increase green productivity in neighboring regions. However, there are considerable differences of determinants which affect green productivity across districts in East Java. From spatial heterogeneity perspectives, we evaluate that each group of regions are affected by the different factors. Looking from policy perspectives, our findings suggest that one-size-fits-all policy is not proposed for promoting equal green growth across East Java districts. Instead, augmenting different treatments and policies based on spatial heterogeneity are more demanded to be applied.

Abstract

This study aims, first, to explore the implementation of halal branding in international company, and second, to analyze the positioning of international companies utilizing halal branding. These objectives are investigated through a qualitative approach using a case study method. The study focuses on the international company PT Mitratani Dua Tujuh. The company specializes in edamame products exported to Japan, Dubai, the UK, and various other countries worldwide. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed using interpretive analysis with the flow model stages of Miles and Huberman. Data validity was tested through source triangulation and technique triangulation. This research produced the following findings: first, international companies, despite holding various trade certifications such as HACCP and BRGC, must still possess halal certification. Second, international companies using halal branding can outperform competitors due to advantages in safety and health aspects. Halal branding serves as a differentiation, creating a safety barrier to entry. This study concludes that halal branding elevates products to become prestigious and differentiated offerings.
