Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the best number of seeds cuttings, gibberellin concentration and immersion time for the germination of mangosteen seeds. This research conducted at Laboratory of Seed Technology Faculty Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan from December to March 2016. Experimental design used a factorial randomized block design with three factors, seed cutting, gibberellin concentrations and immersion time. Parameters measured were membrane leakage (μmhos), normal seedling (%), abnormal seedling (%), died seeds (%), germination rate (days), vigor Index (%). The results show that intact mangosteen seeds or without cutting, application of gibberellin at a concentration of 75 ppm and 24 hours time immersion are the best treatments to mangosteen seed germination.

Abstract

This research was conducted in the experimental field of Agricultural Faculty of North Sumatra Muhammadiyah University with a height of ± 27 meters dpl, held in july - nov 2012. This study aims to determine the best dose frequency of k2so4 on growth and the result of red chili varieties. This research was conducted using the split plot design with two factors; the varieties factor as the main plot with 3 kinds of varieties, named, V1 = TM 999, V2 = Lado, V3 = Landung; and the dose and frequency factors of k2so4 as subplot with 10 stages of treatment which is: K0 = 0, dose = 1.5 g / liter frequency 6 x (K1), 9 x (K2) and 12 x (K3), dose = 3 grams / liter frequency 6 x (K4), 9 x (K5) and 12 x (K6), dose = 4.5 g / liter frequency 6 x (K7), 9 x (K8) and 12 x (K9). The fertilizing was cunducted in the morning at 06.30 am - 08.30 am. The measured variables are plant height, numbers of chlorophyll, age of flower, numbers of flower, the percentage of deciduous fruit, weight of fruit/plot. Varieties show significant differences in plant height, numbers of chlorophyll leaf, age of flower, numbers of flower, the percentage of deciduous fruit, numbers of fruit, weight of fruit, weight of fruit per plot, moisture content and storability. Dose and frequency treatment of potassium sulfate is significantly different from controls. The best dose and frequency of this research is K9 which is 4.5 g/liter k2so4 with 12 time frequency during the growing season in TM 999 and Landung while the varieties of Lado are at dose of 3 g/liter of water with 12 times in giving (K5).

Abstract

Penelitian untuk mengevaluasi dampak kebakaran lahan gambut yang digunakan untuk perkebunan kelapa sawit telah dilakukan di lahan HGU PT. Dua Perkasa Lestari di Desa Ie Mirah Kecamatan Babahrot Kabupaten Aceh Barat Daya Provinsi Aceh, pada Maret hingga Mei 2016. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pengamatan dan pengambilan sampel tanah secara sengaja (porposive sampling) dilakukan pada perkebunan kelapa sawit di lahan gambut yang terbakar pada bulan Maret dan Juni 2012 dan sebagai pembanding (kontrol), dilakukan pula pengamatan dan pengambilan sampel tanah pada lahan kelapa sawit yang tidak terbakar dengan tahun tanam kelapa sawit yang sama dan pada lahan gambut yang masih bervegetasi hutan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kebakaran lahan gambut di HGU PT. Dua Perkasa Lestari setelah 4 tahun (sejak kejadian kebakaran) kualitas tanah gambutnya dapat pulih kembali, ditandai dengan sifat tanah (fisika, kimia dan biologi) pada lahan gambut terbakar yang umumnya menjadi lebih baik dari sifat tanah gambut yang tidak terbakar, bahkan meski dibandingkan dengan tanah lahan gambut yang masih bervegetasi hutan.

Abstract

Areal Hutan Rawa Gambut Tripa (TPSF) Provinsi Aceh dengan luas areal 60.657,29 ha sebagian besar merupakan tanah gambut dengan ketebalan bervariasi dari 100 cm hingga >850 cm. Lebih dari 80% areal TPSF telah dimanfaatkan untuk perkebunan kelapa sawit dan kebun campuran. Hasil kajian lapangan dan laboratorium menunjukkan bahwa sekitar 52% areal TPSF ini tidak sesuai untuk kelapa sawit karena terdapat faktor pembatas penggunaan lahan yaitu ketebalan gambut >2 meter, tingkat kematangan fibrik, dan lahan yang mudah tergenang. Pemanfaatan lahan gambut untuk perkebunan kelapa sawit di areal TPSF telah memberikan perubahan pada aspek ekologis dan kualitas tanah. Kerusakan ekologis antara lain terjadinya subsidensi, menurunnya kemampuan mengikat air, memacu kehilangan C tanah dan mempercepat kematangan gambut. Perubahan karakteristik tanah meliputi meningkatnya BD (bulk density) dan KTK serta menurunkan C dan N tanah. Sifat kimia gambut yang telah lama digunakan untuk perkebunan kelapa sawit, kualitasnya lebih baik daripada gambut yang baru dibuka. Untuk mencegah terjadinya degradasi lahan, diperlukan upaya-upaya untuk rehabilitasi dan konservasi yaitu dengan mengatur sistem drainase (blocking canal) dan kedalaman air tanah untuk menghindari kebakaran bahan gambut serta menghambat emisi karbon yang berlebihan. Kendala keasaman tanah dan rendahnya kation basa dapat diatasi dengan penambahan amelioran dan pemupukan yang berimbang.

Abstract

Ants of Myopopone castaneae (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) is a one potential predators of larvae palm stem borer Oryctes rhinoceros L. (Coleoptera: Scarabidae). These ants are able to prey on all stadia of larvae O. rhinoceros L. This research was aimed to know the number of ants Myopopone castaneae (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) generated by feeding the various instar larvae of palm stem borer Oryctes rhinoceros L. (Coleoptera: Scarabaidae) in the laboratory. The research was conducted at Laboratory of Plant Pest, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara from April until September 2017. This research used nonfactorial Randomize Completely Design with 3 treatments and 6 replications. The results showed that various instar larvae O. rhinoceros was significantly different to number of ants generated. The highest number of ants was instar I (0,67 queen ants, 2,17 male ants, and 68 working ants) dan the lowest number of ants was instar III (0 queen ant, 0 male ant and 65,83 working ant). The highest consumption was instar I (130,17 ants) and lowest one was instar III (73,83 ants). There were three types of ants in colony including queen, male and working ants.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the growth and production response of two varieties of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) to the provision of various sources of nitrogen. This research was conducted in Lambar village, Tigapanah sub-district, Karo regency, Sumatera Utara Province with altitude of ± 1200 meters above sea level, which started on July to September 2017. This research used a factorial randomized block design with 2 factors namely varieties of lettuce (crop and lettuce) and sources of nitrogen (urea fertilizer, chicken manure and Liquid organic fertilizer of rabbit urine). The parameters observed were plant height, greenish leaves, crop circle, fresh weight of plant per sample and fresh weight of plant per plot. The results showed that both varieties were significantly different in the parameters of plant height, greenish leaves, the number of leaves, and the fresh weight of the plant per sample. Application of nitrogen source showed differences in plant height at 10 weeks after move planting and fresh weight of plant per sample.

Abstract

The intensity of the shade and fertilizer are the two aspects of the environment that important for the growth of madeira vine plants. The purpose of the research was to know the growth response of madeira vine on different levels shade and application of fertilizer and Biochar. The research was conducted in the research field of Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan about ± 32 m above the sea, on June to August 2017. This research used Split Plot Design with 2 factors, level of shade (0%; 25%; 50%; dan 75%) and application Fertilizer (without fertilizer; urea 1.6 g/plant; chicken manure 53.3 g/plant; biochar rice husk 294.4 g/plant). This results research showed that without shade (0%) increased the growth of plant length but the 75% shade increased of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll. Application of chicken manure was increasing plant length, shoot fresh weight but application biochar rice husk increased crop dry weight and leaf area. The interaction of different level shade and application of fertilizer was not significant affecting to the growth madeira vine plant in the end of observation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian bahan humat dan pupuk P untuk meningkatkan ketersedian P di tanah ultisol. Penelitian ini terdiri dari 2 faktor perlakuan dan 2 ulangan. Faktor pertama bahan humat dengan 4 perlakuan (0, 400, 800, dan 1200 ppm) dan faktor kedua pupuk P terdiri dari 4 perlakuan (100%, 75%, 50%, dan 0% rekomendasi). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa pemberian bahan humat meningkatkan pH, P-tersedia, dan menurunkan Al-dd dengan dosis terbaik 800 ppm bahan humat dan pemberian pupuk P meningkatkan pH, P-tersedia, bobot kering akar dan tajuk, P-daun dan menurunkan Aldd dengan dosis terbaik 75% rekomendasi. Interaksi antara bahan humat dan pupuk P menunjukan pengaruh tidak nyata terhadap semua parameter yang diamati.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan limbah rumen sapi sebagai pupuk organik cair diharapkan dapat membantu masyarakat dalam bercocok tanam khususnya hijauan pakan ternak. Kandungan pupuk organik cair fermentasi rumen sapi memiliki kandungan organik yang cukup baik. Penelitian ini dilakukan di desa Bandar Klipah pasar 10, Kecamatan Tembung, Kabupaten Deli Serdang pada bulan Juni - November 2017. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan 5 ulangan. Perlakuan menggunakan pupuk organik cair fermentasi rumen sapi (ml/plot) yang terdiri dari P0 : kontrol (tanpa pupuk cair), P1 : 50 ml/plot, P2 : 100 ml/plot, dan P3 : 150 ml/plot. Peubah yang diamati yaitu tinggi tanaman, jumlah anakan, produksi segar, bahan kering, dan Serapan N.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian perlakuan dosis pemupukan berpengaruh nyata (P<0.05) terhadap tinggi dan produksi segar, dan tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0.05) terhadapproduksi bahan kering, jumlah anakan dan serapan N tanaman rumput gajah (Pennisetum purpureum). Perlakuan P3 dengan dosis pupuk 150 ml dapat meningkatkan produksi tinggi tanaman (124.40 cm), produksi segar (86.54 g/polybag), produksi kering (32.46 g/plot), jumlah anakan (5.87), dan serapan N (1,99 g/plot) dibanding perlakuan lainnya. Produksi cenderung meningkat seiring peningkatan dosis pupuk organik cair fermentasi rumen sapi. Disimpulkan bahwa pemberian pupuk organik cair fermentasi rumen sapi dapat meningkatkan produksi pada rumput gajah (Pennisetum purpureum).

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan data tingkat salinitas dan penyebaran pada lahan sawah tadah hujan melalui kegiatan survey di Desa Durian, Kecamatan Pantai Labu, Kabupaten Deli Serdang serta di Laboratorium Sistem Informasi Geografis dan Laboratorium Kimia dan Kesuburan Tanah Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara. Dilaksanakan pada bulan September sampai dengan Oktober 2017. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode Survei Grid Bebas dengan tingkat kerapatan 1 sampel tiap 25 ha. Parameter pengamatan Salinitas tanah (Electrical Conductivity), Na-dd (Spektro Flamefotometer) dan pH tanah (Elektroda Potensiometri). Analisis data menggunakan metode Interpolasi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penyebaran salinitas tanah memiliki dua kriteria menurut Dobberman dan Fairhurst (2000) yaitu kriteria tinggi dengan luasan 625 ha ( 83,4% ) dan kriteria agak tinggi dengan luasan 125 ha ( 16,6 % ). Setelah diketahui kadar salinitas pada lahan tersebut, pengukuran nilai pH dan Na-dd dilakukan. Nilai pH tanah dan Na-dd pada lahan sawah tadah hujan memiliki pH tanah masam dengan rataan 4.7 dan Nilai Na-dd yang rendah dengan rataan 0,15 me/100, sehingga tanah tersebut dapat diklasifikasikan menjadi tanah Salin.
