Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of a service learning-based literacy program in improving the reading and writing abilities of students at MA Al Muttaqien Pancasila Sakti. The program was designed to address low reading interest, limited library resources, and the absence of a structured literacy program. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using purposive sampling. The informants consisted of 3 teachers, 1 headmaster, 8 students, along with participant observation and documentation of activities. The service learning model was implemented through four stages: needs identification, collaborative program design with teachers, literacy workshop implementation, and reflective evaluation. The findings indicate that service learning strengthens student engagement in literacy practices, improves writing confidence, and fosters collaborative learning. The program resulted in the publication of a student anthology as well as the development of digital literacy practices through digital reading platforms and technology-based reading corners. This study confirms that service learning is an effective pedagogical strategy for building a sustainable literacy culture in Islamic educational settings. The main contribution of this research is the enrichment of the literature on literacy development in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and the potential of community-engaged pedagogy.

Abstract

The increase in publications on farmer literacy in the last four decades shows significant academic attention to information capacity and technological adaptation in the agricultural sector. However, this growth has not been accompanied by comprehensive mapping that can identify the intellectual architecture, global collaboration patterns, and its strategic implications for the development of agricultural library services. Ideally, information institutions need data-based synthesis to design collections, partnership networks, and literacy programmes that are responsive to scientific dynamics. This research aims to fill this gap through bibliometric analysis of 978 publications indexed in Scopus for the period 1984–2024 using Biblioshiny. The research results show that the study of farmer literacy experiences an annual growth rate of 13.8%, dominance of journal articles (77.4%), and concentration of contributions in China, the United States, and Australia. The thematic evolution shows a shift from general agricultural literacy towards digital, financial, and environmental literacy integrated with technological transformation. The network analysis reveals clustered collaboration patterns with strategic linking actors in global knowledge circulation. The findings of this research provide an empirical foundation for strengthening agricultural libraries as adaptive and networked knowledge nodes.

Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has opened significant opportunities for transforming services in academic libraries. In addition to improving librarians’ operational efficiency through service automation, AI enhances user engagement by enabling more personalized, adaptive, and innovative service models. These developments indicate a growing shift in how academic libraries design and deliver information services. This article presents a systematic literature review (SLR) to examine research trends, identify forms of innovation, and analyze the impact of AI implementation in academic library services. The study followed established SLR procedures, including identification, screening, and thematic analysis of scholarly articles indexed in Google Scholar, with a publication range from 2023 to 2025. The review addressed three primary research questions, first what are the prevailing trends in research on AI implementation in academic libraries; second what types of service innovations have emerged; and last how does AI influence information access, service efficiency, and user experience? The findings show that AI has been applied in various domains, including information recommendation systems, reference service chatbots, catalog automation, and user behavior analytics. Despite these advancements, several challenges remain, particularly regarding librarians’ digital competencies, ethical considerations, and the integration of AI technologies with institutional academic needs. Overall, the findings position AI as an important catalyst for innovation in academic libraries while highlighting the need for further research on its broader social, cultural, and ethical implication

Abstract

The development of AI literacy as a key competency in the 21st century should be accompanied by a comprehensive knowledge map of the direction, structure, and dynamics of global research. The mapping is important to ensure that curriculum development, education policies, and research agendas run systematically and evidence-based. However, factual conditions suggest that most AI literacy research still focuses on the formulation of definitions, conceptual frameworks, and implementation in a limited scope. The study aims to map AI literacy research trends using a bibliometric approach based on data from Scopus, which is analyzed with the help of VOSviewer software. A total of 289 publications published between 2019 - 2025 were analyzed based on publication distribution, dominant keywords, collaboration networks between authors, and relationships between articles through bibliographic coupling. The results show an increasing trend in the number of publications over the past five years, with significant spikes in 2024 and 2025. These findings provide an overview of further research opportunities related to AI literacy. In addition, the study recommends the need for education policies that support the systematic integration of AI literacy into formal education curricula, especially in developing countries. With a bibliometric approach, this study is expected to be a strategic reference for researchers, educators, and policymakers in designing relevant, inclusive, and sustainable artificial intelligence literacy programs in the era of digital transformation.

Abstract

The advancement of information technology has brought significant changes to the way higher education institutions manage innovative works. Students and lecturers, as the main actors in academic and research activities, require an organized system to document and disseminate their works optimally. Many high-value innovations remain inadequately documented, putting them at risk of being underrecognized or even lost. To address this issue, the library has developed a web-based innovation management system called GEMILANG-IN (GEnerasi MIlenial with Innovative Steps). This system is designed as a platform for archiving, managing, and publishing innovative works produced by the academic community in a structured and sustainable manner. This study provides a comprehensive review of the foundation, objectives, implementation methods, and benefits of GEMILANG-IN in supporting increased visibility of innovative works, digital preservation, and ease of access. Through this program, the university is expected to present itself as a productive, innovative, and competitive institution at both national and global levels.

Abstract

Information literacy is an important competency in higher education because it relates to students' ability to find, evaluate, and use information effectively. This study aims to analyze the level of information literacy of first- semester students in the Islamic Library and Information Science Study Program at IAIN Kerinci and identify the factors that influence it. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach with a survey method using an information literacy pre-test instrument based on the Big6™ information literacy model. The study respondents were 26 first-semester students in the Islamic Library and Information Science Study Program at IAIN Kerinci. The results showed that 58.34% of students were in the low literacy category, 33.33% were in the medium category, and only 8.33% were in the high category. These findings indicate a gap between the availability of scientific information sources and students' ability to utilize them. The main factors influencing low information literacy include students' academic culture that relies more on general search engines, minimal information literacy training, limited use of information technology, and the lack of integration of information literacy into the learning process. This study recommends strengthening information literacy programs through regular workshops, collaboration between lecturers and librarians, and optimizing the use of library e-resources.

Abstract

Digital transformation in library services has expanded librarians’ responsibilities from managing printed collections to handling digital resources, information literacy instruction, and scholarly publication support. These changes increase job demands and may contribute to psychological pressure and burnout among librarians. This study aims to analyze the role of the Happiness at Work concept in addressing librarian burnout in the digital era. The study employed a literature review method using scholarly articles, books, professional reports, and official publications related to burnout and workplace well-being. Data were analyzed descriptively through thematic identification of factors causing burnout and dimensions of Happiness at Work. The findings indicate that librarian burnout is influenced by an imbalance between job demands and available job resources, particularly digital competencies, organizational support, and career development structures. The Happiness at Work concept, which includes positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment, has the potential to improve resilience, motivation, and service quality. Integrating Happiness at Work into library human resource management is essential to reduce burnout and maintain sustainable librarian performance in the digital era.

Abstract

Academic libraries function not only as providers of information resources but also as spaces for service interactions that shape users’ experiences and satisfaction. However, studies examining the role of librarians’ personality and emotional intelligence in influencing user satisfaction remain relatively limited, particularly within the context of academic libraries in Indonesia. This study aims to explore how librarians’ interpersonal personality traits and emotional intelligence contribute to shaping users’ service experiences at the Library of Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara. The study employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews with two librarians and sixteen students from eight faculties, as well as a literature review. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and thematic conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that librarians’ friendly, professional, and communicative attitudes contribute to positive service experiences for students. In addition, dimensions of emotional intelligence such as empathy, self-regulation, and social skills play a significant role in creating supportive, comfortable, and non-intimidating service interactions. Users perceive service quality not only through technical aspects but also through the emotional experiences that emerge during interactions with librarians. This study emphasizes that strengthening librarians’ emotional competencies is an essential component in improving service quality and user satisfaction in academic libraries.
