Abstract

This study aims to analyze all the aspects in implementing Teacher Professionalism Develoment (PKB) of the SD Negeri teachers in Medang Kampai, Dumai, Indonesia. The research data sources were five principals and forty-seven elementary school teachers in Medang Kampai District. The data collection technique used observation, interview and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that (1) the reasons for teachers to follow PKB were to add insight, knowledge, creativity, and improve professional competence, orders from school principals, and for promotion, (2) the efforts of teachers in implementing PKB were to follow seriously, 3) the supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation (PKB) that come from the Office, the school and themselves, (4) the efforts of teachers in overcoming obstacles to the implementation of PKB are involving teachers in PKB activities, providing as much related information as possible, motivating teachers to continue to be enthusiastic about participating in PKB activities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of principals' leadership and teacher morale, either partially or simultaneously, on the discipline of elementary school teachers in Cluster XII, Dumai. The population of this study were all elementary school teachers in the Gugus XII area of Dumai Timur with a total sample of 92 respondents. Determination of the sample using the Probability Sampling technique. The data obtained were then analyzed descriptively. The results of the study indicate that (1) There is a positive and significant influence of principal's leadership on teacher discipline. The better the principal's leadership, the more teacher discipline will increase. (2) There is a positive and significant effect of teacher work spirit on teacher discipline. The higher the work spirit of the teacher, the more the discipline of the teacher increases. (3) There is a positive and significant influence on the leadership of the principal and the work spirit of the teacher together (simultaneously) on teacher discipline. The better the leadership of the principal and the higher the work spirit of the teacher, the better the discipline of elementary school teachers in Cluster XII, Dumai Timur.

Abstract

The issue of Moral Decadence is becoming worrisome not only among the Nigerian Tertiary Institutions but in the world at large and it’s gradually eroding the morals and values which has been of great benefit to people’s greatness in the past.  As an evaluator, this concern leads to the conceptualization of this study that assessed the causes of moral decadence, identified those to be blamed and provide probable solutions to the menace. Three research questions guided the study and descriptive survey research design was used.  Purposive sampling technique was used to select four hundred undergraduate that participated in the study.  The adapted and revalidated Moral Decadence Questionnaire (MODEQ) from Olorundare (2011) study was used and it yielded reliability co-efficient of 0.88. The results reveal that Parental negligence, negative mass media contents, peer group influences, among others are the causes of moral decadence and that Parents are the most to be blamed for the level of moral decadence.  To curb this menace, effective parenting, engendering positive peer influence, among others can achieve the best result. Recommendation was made, that Parents should consciously contribute to the building of a morally viable Nigerian society by instilling strong moral values into their children.

Abstract

This research is a quantitative research with the Expost Facto method which aims to analyze and describe the influence of Principal Leadership, Rewards and Punishment from Principals on Teacher Discipline either partially or simultaneously. Data were collected using an instrument in the form of a closed questionnaire which was distributed to 93 respondents consisting of public elementary school teachers in the Dumai city after being tested for validity and reliability first. The results of the study show that partially Principal Leadership has a significant and positive effect on Teacher Discipline by 24.25% and it was the most dominant factor in influencing teacher discipline in this study. Reward from the Principal has a significant and positive effect on Teacher Discipline by 4.41%. Whilst, punishment from the Principal has a significant and positive effect on Teacher Discipline by 20.46%. Meanwhile, simultaneously the Principal's Leadership, Reward from Principal, and Punishment from Principal have a significant and positive effect on Teacher Discipline by 49.1%, while the remaining 50.9% is influenced by other variables outside of this study. This indicates that the principal’s leadership, reward and punishments from the principal do have an influence toward teacher discipline.

Abstract

The analyzing whether parental income, socio-culture, and living environment are factors that cause children to drop out of school at SMP Negeri Rengat Barat District were investigated in this study. The study used a quantitative approach because the research data was in the form of numbers and the analysis uses statistics to test hypotheses. The types of data used in this study were primary data and secondary data. The data analysis technique used to solve the problem in this study was a quantitative analysis technique using the KMO test (Kaiser Meyer Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy) and Bartleets test of sphericity. The results showed that parents' income, socio-cultural and living environment were factors that caused children to drop out of school at the State Junior High School in West Rengat District. However, the correlation value of the living environment variable is greater than the socio-cultural variables and parents' income. Thus it can be interpreted that the dominant variable affecting children dropping out of school is the environment where they live because it has the highest correlation value. Then followed by socio-cultural and finally the income of parents.

Abstract

Argumentation skills are included as an important features for critical thinking that need to be trained to students. Being involved in argumentation leads students to be able to put forward arguments that are supported by data and scientific reasoning. The purpose of this study was to analyze students' scientific argumentation skills on biotechnology material using the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) model. The method in this study used a qualitative descriptive method. Students' scientific argumentation skills during the learning process were analyzed from transcripts of audio recordings and learning videos known as Transcript Based Lesson Analysis (TBLA). The results of this study indicate that learning with the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) model can build students' scientific argumentation skills. The six categories of social negotiation have been identified from student conversations when involved in scientific arguments, but are still dominated by the idea construction components, namely information seeking and elaboration. Meanwhile, the components of criticism of ideas including challenging, supporting, rejecting and defending are not often used by students. This is due to the limited knowledge of students about the material and the low understanding of epistemic arguments where they are not accustomed to using scientific evidence to support their claims.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the growth of students' creative thinking skills in the implementation of learning sharing & jumping tasks in the buffer solution material. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The research was conducted in one of Bandung's high school students of class XI with a total of 24 students. The instruments used for data collection were interview guidelines, audio and video recordings through zoom meetings and observation sheets. The collected data were analyzed based on Transcript Based Lesson Analysis (TBLA). The results showed that in the sharing task all aspects of creative thinking skills emerged during the learning process, namely in the aspects of fluent thinking, flexible thinking, original thinking, elaborative thinking, and evaluative thinking. Meanwhile, in the jumping task, there is one aspect that does not appear, namely the aspect of original thinking.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of principal's leadership on teacher work loyalty, the influence of teacher work culture on teacher work loyalty, and find out whether there is an effect of principal leadership and teacher work culture together on teacher work loyalty. The research method used a survey with a quantitative descriptive approach. The research population was included all of elementary school teachers in Cluster IV, Bukit Kapur sub-district, Dumai City was 117 teachers, with a total sample of 91 teachers. The sampling technique used Simple Random Sampling. Data collection techniques were carried out using a questionnaire. The results of the study indicated that there was a direct positive influence of principal's leadership on teacher work loyalty. There was a direct positive influence of teacher work culture on teacher work loyalty and there was an influence of principal's leadership and teacher work culture on teacher work loyalty together.

Abstract

Employee job satisfaction and organisational commitment are directly influenced by leadership styles. Despite the fact that the good elements of leadership have already been explored, the bad sides of leadership must be addressed as well. This study examined the relationship between school toxic leadership, teachers’ job satisfaction and organisational commitment in Lagos State tertiary institutions. Two hypotheses were set to serve as guides for the study. Correlational and descriptive research designs were adopted while the population comprised all lecturers in Lagos State owned tertiary institutions. The sample size was 240 lecturers after stratifying the population into the institutions nomenclature and thereafter selected through purposive sampling technique. Analysis was carried out using inferential statistics of Pearsons Product-Moment Correlation Analysis. Findings indicated that a negative relationship existed between toxic leadership and teachers’ job satisfaction in Lagos State tertiary institutions and also a negative relationship existed between toxic leadership and organisational commitment in Lagos State tertiary institutions. According to the findings of the study, toxic leadership exists in Lagos State higher institutions. The study recommended that before being placed in leadership roles, tertiary institution lecturers should be exposed to leadership development training and opportunities.
