Abstract

The development of education and culture is directed at improving the quality of life. The State Elementary School 006 (SD 006) Bangsal Aceh takes part in the government program, namely the National Literacy Movement. In response to this, the researchers observed for approximately five years the iteration program at this school was running. This study aims to describe on how to implement of the literacy program, the obstacles and solutions that are carried out in the implementation of the literacy program, the relationship between students' reading interest and the implementation of the literacy program, and the relationship between students' interest in writing for students with the implementation of literacy programs. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. Sources of research data were the principal, 5 teachers, and 4 students. Data collection techniques used the Miles and Huberman models. Test the validity of the data used technical triangulation and source triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the program has not been realized properly. The obstacles to implementing the program are a less supportive environment, incomplete infrastructure, unliterate parents, and lack of examples of teachers in literacy habituation in schools. Students' reading and writing interest are still low.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance science process skills (SPS) through contextual teaching and learning (CTL). This research method used the Quasi-Experiment None-equivalent Pretest-Posttest Design Group. This research was conducted at SDN 002 Ujung Batu with a sample of 54 students. The results obtained that the science process skills of students who learn with the CTL model are better and have more significant improvement than those who learn with conventional models. The experiment group obtained a posttest score with an average of 90.71, while the control group obtained an average of 51.42. N-gain of students' SPS in the experiment group is 0.56 (medium category) higher than the control group that is 0.24 (low category). These indicate that the CTL model can enhance the SPS of fifth-grade elementary school students in the saving-water and natural events concept.

Abstract

Teaching materials that were applied previously in the form of MFIs are not yet constructivism-based. During the time, the applied student worksheet (LKM) is monotonic so that students are less motivated in the learning process, as the solution, a constructivism-based LKM need to be developed. The research aims to develop constructivismbased Student Worksheets on aldehyde and ketone material. This type of research was Research and Development with a 4-D development model which includes Definition, Design, Development, and Disseminate. This research was only carried out until the development stage and was followed by limited trials. The research was conducted at the FKIP University of Riau. The object of the research was constructivism-based LKM. The data analysis technique used in the study was descriptive statistical analysis, which was calculating the percentage of validation values. The average score of the assessment of the five aspects of the LKM feasibility by the validator team, which was didactic, constructs of feasibility of presentation, construct of linguistic, technical feasibility, characteristics of constructivism successively have a score of 98%, 100%, 99%, 100% and 100%, respectively. The average score of overall validation of constructivism-based Aldehyde and Ketone LKM is 99.39% with a valid feasibility category, meaning that the developed LKM are feasible to use in the real teaching.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to study the effectiveness of using coloured blocks in teaching the concept of balancing chemical equation in chemistry. It is expected that students will improve their understanding in this concept and students interest in chemistry. This study examined how by using coloured blocks will help students understand the concept of balancing chemical equation which is an important concept to master in Form 4 Chemistry. Using pre and post-test control group design, the study involved a comparison between a control group (n=20) which were taught using the conventional chalk and talk method to balance chemical equation while the treatment group (n=20) were taught to balance chemical equations using coloured blocks. After pre-test, there was a significant difference between control and treatment group on their post-test scores with effect size of 1.31. Students who had used coloured blocks to balance chemical equations showed significant development in their post-test compared to the students who were taught using the conventional method. Students also showed high interest in chemistry upon using coloured blocks in teaching the concept of balancing chemical equation. The research results recommended the use of coloured blocks as a potential tool to teach the concept of balancing chemical equations..

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors which affect the interests of majors in Madrasah Aliyah in Pekanbaru City. Total population of 1225 students with samples as many as 302 students obtained pro proportionately random sampling. Data collection using questionnaires and documentation. Then the data were analyzed descriptively and analyzed by Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results showed: (1) Parents' attention has a direct and significant effect on the interest in choosing a major, meaning that the greater the attention of parents, the higher the student's interest in choosing a major. (2) Parent’s attention and ideals not directly affect academic ability, and academic ability does not affect the interest of majors. it means that the size of the parents' attention and the student's aspirations does not affect the student's academic ability and interest in the chosen major. (3) Ambition job directly affects the interest to choose a major, which means that the level of ambition will be in line with how much desire and interest in the majors since according to their interests. This shows that interest in choosing a major can increase along with increasing parental attention and student ambitions.

Abstract

Several problems were found such as the teacher was not sensitive to the problems of students, the teacher was not enthusiastic in teaching, the teacher could not show in front of the students that he mastered the material well, there were still many teachers who could not good use of information technology, and the lack of togetherness among fellow teachers in completing assignments. This study uses a saturated sample technique. The number of samples is the entire population of 55 teachers. The results of this study shows that there is a positive and significant influence between Job Involvement on Social Competence. The higher the work involvement given, the higher the social competence of the teacher. There is a positive and significant influence between the variables of teacher performance on social competence. The higher the level of performance possessed by the teacher, the higher the level of social competence possessed by the teacher. There is also a jointly significant influence between the variables of work involvement and teacher performance on social competence. The higher the work involvement and performance of the teacher, the higher the level of social competence possessed by the teacher with the assumption of permanent work involvement. Furthermore, the higher the level of performance possessed by the teacher, the higher the level of social competence possessed by the teacher with the assumption of permanent work involvement.

Abstract

The K13 Curriculum requires students thinking skills, especially in the regulation of cognition which consists of planning, information management strategies, monitoring, examination of actions, and evaluation. This study aims to look at the metacognitive abilities of class X students of SMAN 7 Pekanbaru on the concept of environmental pollution through mind mapping with problem based learning models. This type of research was a quasi experiment using two classes, one class as an experimental class and one class as a control class. The experimental class used mind mapping models of problem based learning and the control class used conventional learning. The research design used a pretest-posttest control group design. Data collection techniques used questionnaires metacognitive abilities and description test questions. The analysis technique used the Anova test analysis. The results of the pretest and posttest showed a significant increase in students metacognitive abilities through mind mapping with the problem based learning model of the concept of environmental pollution at SMAN 7 Pekanbaru with a significance value of 0,000. Sig. (0,000) < then H0 is rejected, so it can be concluded that the metacognitive abilities of students are increased through mind mapping with problem based learning models on the concept of environmental pollution.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of achievement motivation through the role of soft skills to the learning achievement. This research was conducted due to the low achievement motivation of students at Economic Education Program Study, University of Riau. A total of 185 samples were selected from 344 number of population using Yamane statistical sampling technique. Data was collected by questionnaire and documentation techniques. It was then analyzed using path analysis. The results showed that Soft Skill played a positive role mediate that influence of accomplishment motivation on learning achievement. This means that learning achievement is not influenced by achievement motivation alone, but also supported by soft skill as intervening variable. In order to achieve achievement motivation students should have a successful future oriented attitude. Meanwhile, to improve soft skill students must have the ability to communicate, adapt and build relationships obtained from the ability of ICT and foreign languages.
