Abstract

Prevention of high risks in mothers and children should not only begin during pregnancy, but must be prepared well in advance, namely from adolescence. In the Medan Tuntungan District area, especially in the SMA Negeri 17 Medan environment, it was found that the understanding of early detection of health risks still has a fairly wide psychological distance. Many adolescents as future parents are still in the shadow of traditional myths and local wisdom that sometimes contradicts the principles of medical safety. The program will be carried out on February 18, 2025 with interactive counseling methods and in-depth discussions to align the prevention of high maternal and child risk from an early age for adolescents. The results of the evaluation showed that there was an increase in participants' knowledge in recognizing the prevention of high maternal and child risk from an early age for adolescents, so that it is expected to be able to prevent high maternal and child risk from an early age for adolescents due to inappropriate actions. Abstract

The postpartum period and the early period of child growth are a very crucial transition phase as well as vulnerable for the health of the mother and baby. One of the medical interventions that is often carried out in the normal delivery process is an episiotomy, which is the use of the perineal area to widen the birth canal. Although medically intended, episiotomy wounds require intensive and hygienic postpartum care. Problems arise when postpartum mothers return to the home environment, where knowledge of wound self-care is often still very limited, compounded by the fear of touching the wound area as well as the lack of access to practical information. The program will be held on June 19, 2025 with interactive counseling methods and group discussions. The results of the evaluation showed that there was an improvement in the mother's skills in performing wound care independently and accelerating the detection of health risks through methods relevant to the local culture. This education is expected to help reduce the number of postpartum complications (such as wound infections) and increase the effectiveness of the maternal-child health screening system.

Abstract

Pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, is a golden period as well as a very vulnerable phase due to the process of organogenesis or the formation of fetal vital organs. In this phase, the nutritional needs of pregnant women increase dramatically to support the growth of new cells and blood volume. However, the main challenge that is often faced is the occurrence of iron deficiency anemia, which if it occurs in pregnant women with high risk categories, can trigger serious complications such as abortion, fetal growth retardation in the womb (IUGR), to the risk of life-threatening post-saline hemorrhage. This community service activity aims to provide structured education on the use of Tamarillo fruit for high-risk first trimester pregnant women at Hana Kasih Clinic. The program will be implemented on July 23, 2025 through interactive counseling methods, educational dialogues, and counseling sessions to empower pregnant women to be able to carry out independent nutrition interventions in a sustainable manner. By integrating local fruit consumption into the daily diet, it is hoped that the hemoglobin levels of pregnant women can be optimally maintained, so that the quality of the mother's health and the fetal growth and development process can be guaranteed in order to reduce maternal and infant mortality in the region.

Abstract

The practice of abdominal massage for pregnant women is one of the cultural traditions that is still inherent in the community, including in the culture of the Karo Tribe in Medan Tuntungan District. This community service activity aims to provide education about the safety of abdominal massage practices in the Karo Tribal culture, as well as increase pregnant women's understanding of the medical risks that may arise. The program was held on May 21, 2024 with interactive counseling methods and in-depth discussions to align cultural practices with pregnancy-safe health principles. The results of the evaluation showed that there was an increase in participants' knowledge in recognizing the limitations of safe massage practice, so that it is expected to be able to prevent the risk of pregnancy complications due to improper actions.

Abstract

Hygiene food management, the fulfillment of proper and quality complementary foods after the child is six months old is a crucial challenge because breast milk alone is no longer sufficient for the increasing nutritional needs. Therefore, mothers under five must have comprehensive knowledge in processing and presenting healthy, balanced, and safe MP-ASI. A weak understanding of the texture, frequency, and diversity of food is at high risk of causing children to experience malnutrition, such as underweight and stunting. The program will be carried out on April 24, 2025 through health counseling methods and demonstrations of hygiene self-care practices and the management of healthy MP-ASI based on local culinary. The results of the evaluation showed that there was an increase in understanding of knowledge and skills of mothers under five in Medan Tuntungan District in implementing family hygiene self-care and managing healthy complementary foods independently. This education is expected to utilize local food ingredients to meet children's nutritional needs to prevent the risk of malnutrition and stunting.

The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' health literacy, where pregnant women and their families became more prepared and able to take preventive and responsive actions in dealing with emergencies. In conclusion, continuous education is a crucial strategy in efforts to reduce maternal mortality and improve patient safety standards in the Sally Clinic environment.
