The use of personal protective equipment by swallow nest harvesters: an ethnographic study on safety behavior at Karangduwur BeachPurposeThe purpose of this study was to determine the behavior of traditional self-protection used by the swallow nest harvesters.MethodsThis research is a qualitative study with an ethnographic approach. The researchers participated in observing the behavior of bird swallow nest harvesters. The sample was chosen purposively based on the recommendation of the village head. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews and field observations. Secondary data were collected through document search on swiftlet nest download. The study was conducted from August-October 2016 with the instruments of interview guides, observation sheets and documents.ResultsDHarvesters used non-standard personal protective equipment. Downloaders tended to use traditional personal protective equipment, with the reasoning that using too much protection will interrupt the harvesting process. ConclusionThe use of personal protective equipment by harvesters is influenced by an interaction of factors between individuals and the environment and vice versa. The concerned agencies should pay close attention to the use of personal protective equipment used by Swallow's nest harvesters.

Abstract

Abstract

Determinants of exclusive breastfeeding in SlemanPurposeThe purpose of this paper was to determine the factors associated with the exclusive provision of breast milk in Sleman.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data derived from HDSS Sleman Cycles I and II. The sample in this study were 218 mothers with children aged 7 to <24 months.ResultsThe ownership of health insurance and the use of bottles and pacifiers were significantly associated with exclusive breastfeeding. Maternal age, maternal education, and maternal occupation were not significantly associated with exclusive breastfeeding. Mothers with health insurance are 2.14 times more likely to exclusively breastfeed than those without health insurance. Infants who never use bottles, and pacifiers before the age of 6 months are 5.14 times more likely to receive exclusive breastfeeding than those who used bottles / dots before the age of 6 months.ConclusionThe use of bottles, and pacifiers is the most dominant factor associated with exclusive breastfeeding. Coverage of health insurance, especially in pregnant and lactating mothers and effective health promotion programs related to exclusive breastfeeding needs to be improved. HDSS Sleman needs to analyze the data more in-depth on exclusive breast-feeding.

Abstract

The agreement of manual assessment chart tool and NIOSH lifting equation in the identification of musculoskeletal complaints of industrial workersPurposeThis research aimed to compare the assessment results of two methods in assessing the risk of manual lifting activity and evaluating the conformity of the results in some industries.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted involving direct observation by image and video taking of 30 workers who performed manual lifting activities in three industrial sites. The data obtained were used to fill out the MAC tool sheets and NLE.  ResultsThe results showed that the complaints in the back became the most common complaints felt by workers (56.7%). From the results of the assessment of manual lifting activity, we found 70% risk workers with MAC tool method and 76.7% with the NLE method. The suitability of the results of these two methods with the Kappa test was 0.83 which indicated the existence of a strong result match. ConclusionBoth MAC tools and NLEs had a strongly measured benchmark against the risk assessment of manual lifting activities, so that in their use they can replace each other.
