Austronesian: Journal of Language Science & Literature is an open access journal, single blind peer-reviewed, published by CV Wahana Publikasi. This journal is an area studies journal that publishes research articles, especially in the field of linguistics and literature covering all regions or groups of Austronesian languages. Austronesian: Journal of Language Science & Literature aims to disseminate information and/or research results on Austronesian languages so that the characteristics (identity) of the Austronesian language are maintained and of course increasingly developed. This is done as an effort or preventive measure against the influence of science and technology developments that can destroy the function of language as the identity of a region. Austronesian: Journal of Language Science & Literature publishes original research articles and book reviews that are open to academics, researchers, students, practitioners and all language observers. <![CDATA[In today’s society, slang terms are often used in communication. Slang is a colloquial form of language used to shorten and simplify communication. The purpose of this study is to analyze the slang words contained in Charlie Puth’s selected song. Based on Yule’s theory, this study examines the process of slang creation (1895: 51-55). This study makes use of the Chapman-proposed primary class of slang words (2007: 8). The approach used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method in order to make the data used and the research problem clear. The information was gathered by reading the song lyrics, scanning them for slang terms, and then making a note of those terms that were included in Charlie Puth’s song lyrics. The results of this study indicate there are 18 main slang words found in 8 song lyrics by Charlie Puth. In this study can be found 4 Blending, 8 Clipping, 1 Compounding, 2 Coinage, 1 Borrowing, and 2 Acronym. In this study, because using the clipping process makes words simpler, faster, and quicker to explain things, slang terms are often used in song lyrics.]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of this research is to determine the deixis varieties employed in Kobe Bryant’s interview. This research employed a descriptive qualitative research design and used theory proposed by Yule (1996). The data source was a video taken from a YouTube channel, English Speech, entitled Kobe Bryant: love what you do. The findings indicate that three different kinds of deixis were used in the Kobe Bryant interview: persoaln, spatial, and temporal deixis. Personal deixis is the predominant deixis discovered in Kobe Bryant interview because, when Kobe Bryant recounted his struggles and experiences of becoming one of the best basketball players in the world, he used the words “I” and “you” a lot.]]>

<![CDATA[The use of figurative language in Philip David Wickham’s songs can make the words sound lovely and intriguing. The aims of this research are to identify different kinds of figurative language and their interpretations in four songs from Philip David Wickham’s album “The Ascension”. The study employs a qualitative approach in order to provide a thorough description of the problems identified. The observation method was used in collecting the data. The researchers discovered sixteen pieces of data that contain figurative language in Philip David Wickham’s songs based on the discussion and analysis data, and there are four kinds of figurative language found in the song lyrics, such as simile, metaphor, personification, and hyperbole. Hyperbole is the most common form of figurative language in Philip David Wickham’s songs. The types of meaning used in song lyrics containing figurative language are connotative and conceptual meanings. These two types of meaning are the most widely used in interpreting the meaning of Philip David Wickham’s song lyrics.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study is to identify the types of simple sentences and describe the constituent structure of the process of transformation used in simple sentence found in Jakarta Website’s article. The research is descriptive qualitative research. The data used in this research were taken from online news articles published on the Jakarta Post website. The sentences were taken from the articles posted on 8 July 2022 entitled “G20 FMM: Opening Speech of Indonesian Foreign Minister”. The analysis was oriented to syntactic analysis. In analyzing the data, the types of simple sentence were identified and after that described the process of transformation of simple sentence used in Jakarta Post News Website’s Article. The result of the study shows there are the types of simple sentence found in Jakarta Post News Website’s Article. Simple sentence structure types were identified in the data, which was then categorized, displayed, and described. The results of the tenses studied are 10 (ten) sentences in a data source that belongs to simple sentence structures.]]>

<![CDATA[The apologies that the characters in the Yes Day movie use are described in this study. Expression of remorse is truly normal in our regular routine since individuals generally commit the errors to one another. The purpose of this study is to learn about and describe apology strategies as well as their functions. The information was assembled from exchanges in the Yes Day film that included expression of remorse. This study gathered nine pieces of information. The narrative-based descriptive qualitative method was used to analyze the data to make it easier for the reader to understand. In the Yes Day movie, the Olshtain Cohen and Rosenstein theory was used to examine the characters’ strategies for apologizing. An Expression of Apology or Illocutionary Force Indicating Device (IFID), an Acknowledgement of Responsibility, an Explanation, an Offer of Repair, and a Promise of Forbearance were all used by the characters in the Yes Day movie, according to the findings of this study. The Illocutionary Force Indicating Device, followed by an Explanation, was the strategy that was used the most frequently based on those strategies. In addition to repairing the relationship between the speaker and the listener, the purpose of the apology strategies was to convey the speaker’s regret for their errors. Also used to maintain a good relationship between two characters, apology.]]>
