Arboretum as a conservation area that aims to maintain the tree species and ecological benefits of having a variety of plants or trees that have high economic value. One of the plants or trees that have high economic value is balam (Palaqium burchii HJL). The Natural regeneration in a forest area has a very important role to sustain the kind of quantity and quality of balam in the future. Balam (Palaqium burchii HJL) entered in the family Saportaceae. Balam (Palaquium burchii HJL) is a native plant of Indonesia that spread throughout in mainland Indonesia and found most widely in the areas of Borneo. Wood types of balam (Palaqium burchii HJL) has class IV in durability and class II in powers. This study was conducted in Arboretum of University of Riau. Bina Widya Street KM12,5 Panam, District Tampan, Pekanbaru, Riau Province. Arboretum has an area of ± 10 Ha. The research was conducted in March until June 2015. Abstract

Inventaritation of forest is one of the activity to collect the data and information about forest resources, the potention of forest diversity also the environment as completely include of survey about statute and phisicly condition of forest, flora and fauna, human resources also the economic social condition of society arround of forest. The activity of inventaritation forest aim to identify the kinds of flora and fauna that include arround of the ecotourism forest dumai to analyze the rich of flora and fauna arround of tourism forest dumai. The result of this reseacrh showed that the category of forest like pit forest (wet) and dry forest with the position higher than pit forest located arround of river and home stay. Pit forest is one of the forest that have high volume of water it’s influenced by the rain. Revitalitation area needs to clearly the location of tourism forest dumai and revitalitation of the environment as the holistic towards of tourism forest dumai area. The society have control to participate as directly in arround of the tourism forest, there fore the guidence program and empowering society to keep the forest stand. At the plot of the observation to tree level dominate by kinds of mahang (Macarangatriloba), medang (Litsea sp.) and the kinds of meranti (Shorea sp.). the diversity of species , frequency species and dominate of species by Macaran gatriloba with the higher INP (75,68%) followed by the kinds of Litsea sp and endosperm mummalaccensis.

The community forests management of Styrax spp.becomes a culture and the source of life and social prestige of a family which is measured by the size of the Styraxspp. garden owned and has even become part of the life of the Sytraxspp. farmerin HumbangHasundutan, especially Simarigung Village. As time goes by, many Styraxspp. farmers are turning into horticultural farmers to sufficethe needs of farmers. The purpose of this research is to know the pattern of cultivation of Sytraxspp. plants, to know the contribution of Sytrax spp. plants to household income, and the factors causing the low income of Styrax spp. farmers in Simarigung Village. Sampling method were taken by simple random sampling. The study population was all the head of the family in the Village Simarigung as many as 225 families. The research sample is 20% 25 families of 125 families who manage Styrax spp. The results showed that the major contribution to the community forests of Styraxspp. about household income in the Village Simarigung around Rp. 10.810.000,00- Rp. 22.220.000,00/year and overall was 47.64% or Rp. 457.390.000.00/year. In research show that the management of Sytrax spp. is still traditional and monoculture. The low income of Styraxspp.due to old age and younger Styraxspp. that cannot be notched and lack of maintenance can reduce the quantity and quality of Styraxspp. resin production.

Abstract

The Replica of Istano Basa Pagaruyung is Minangkabau traditional house building in the form of a rumah gadang which is made with the guiding of the palace that ever existed before. Istano Basa Pagaruyung has been destroyed three times in the year 1837 due to the war, in 1996 and in 2007 due to burning. This study aims to determine the type and criteria of wood used in making replica Istano Basa Pagaruyung based on public perception. This study uses snowball sampling method that has been implemented in October 2016 in Replica Istano Basa Pagaruyung. Criteria of wood used as raw material for reproduction of Istano Pagaruyung based on community perception that is hardwood, straight and have dark color. Under construction, the wood used should not be wet. Wood cutting system that is wood can not be felled in a flowering state, because at the time the wood has a delicious smell so favored by insects. Abstract

This research is aimed to get alternative fuel in the form of charcoal briquettes from raw material of wood waste of jabon and waste of palm fiber with adhesive resin and know characteristics of charcoal briquette from mixing waste wood of jabon and waste of palm fiber. The method used in this research is Completely Randomized Design (RAL), consisting of 5 treatments and 3 times replications. The results showed that biomass waste from wood jabon and palm fiber waste can be used as alternative fuel in the form of charcoal briquettes with adhesive resin.Characteristics of wood charcoal briquette of jabon wood and palm fiber waste have fulfilled the criteria of SNI 01-6235-2000 with the average value of water content of wood charcoal briquettes 2.33%, average of the calorific value of wood charcoal briquettes 6525,48 kal / gr ,While from burning process of P1 briquettes wood charcoal jabon takes the longest time compared with other treatment briquettes whose value of 0.256 gr / min. In this research it is found that the best charcoal briquettes are found on charcoal P1 briquettes with 100% composition of wood charcoal Jabon. The P1 briquette has the lowest water content, the highest calorific value and the longest burn time
