Abstract

In this era of modernization, many changes have been made to humanlifestyles. The effects of modernization have had many changing impacts, one ofwhich is the dominance of the use of foreign culture in the architectural andinterior fields, both in houses, cottages, hotels and other accomm odation. Thisresearch discusses the design of cottage interior designs related to foreign culturalissues that dominate in the era of modernization. By applying OSG's healincottageconcept with a cozy retro vintage style which aims to create a comfortable andcalming room atmosphere, this design uses the concept of a combination of Osingculture because it has a variety of aesthetics and cultures that are rarely found aswell as classic concepts such as retro vintage which supports an antique andelegant impression with a few gold accents applied in various corners of the room. This design uses materials that are soft and easy to care for. The aim of thisresearch is to maintain one's own cultural traditions, but not eliminate theelements of modernization and introduce Indonesian culture to citizens both athome and abroad.

Abstract

In the interior of a room there are filling elements such as floors, walls, and ceilings or forms of space-filling such as furniture and aesthetic elements in it. A design or shape of a room filler describes the concept of what is in a building, if the impression of a room is appropriate it can certainly be accepted from a human point of view, then this can influence the function and emotion in creating a room atmosphere. This design methodology starts from a data collection method containing literature data and typology data, followed by an analysis method in the form of design to the final design. Based on the method described, the design of interior space-filling elements refers to the cultural diversity of the Dayak tribe which is implemented with a modern concept with a tropical theme. The Dayak tribe is of course very closely related to nature based on its geological location, therefore in this design, a lot of wood is used in the material elements to make it suitable. Meanwhile, to add tropical elements, of course, it is necessary to add tropical motifs or patterns to it. The purpose of writing this design is to identify the factors that form the elements of a room that implement Dayak culture in a tropical style. The benefit of this research is to find out what factors influence the design elements of Dayak culture. This design produces structured space-filling elements or refers to concepts analyzed based on literature data and typology.

Abstract

Instead of hastily trying to throw out a discourse that rarely or has never appeared in related discussions, what then becomes the breath of the analysis in this scientific article is an effort to mapping the position of women's gender subordination and the representation of women artists discourses in the dialogue of a special scope, namely Indonesian art world. The analysis was carried out using three theoretical concepts, namely subordination, symbolic violence and representation in the art world in Indonesia. By conducting a literature study on literature and art events, the results of this scientific research show that: (1) Collective awareness is believed to support the articulation of resistance to gender inequality; (2) This awareness extends to the involvement of male artists as well, but there are other articulation practices that are more reflective in nature, meaning the construction of the gender identity of the female artist; and (3) The condition of gender inequality is also voiced in-depth reflections aimed at erasing the gender dichotomy caused by stereotypes.

Abstract

Art practices have become an effective means of facilitating recovery and maintaining individual mental health in an activity called art therapy. Whether carried out according to medical advice in the form of intervention or non-intervention, both types of art therapy delivery practices have produced many positive things. This research article wants to read how art therapy practices and art itself are used in different social and scientific disciplines where the application is carried out according to scientific methods. Happiness, the regulation of human consciousness and control of emotions, can apparently be triggered by artistic activities and is accepted in medical practices. Based on the research method in this article which uses a literature study approach, there are differences from those in America and England. In Indonesia, the practice of art therapy still stands alone and is carried out by medical personnel, psychologists and psychiatrists. This is different from the practices carried out by Adrian Hill, Edward Adamson and Edith Kramer. The three art therapy experts explained that in the practice of art therapy, a medical therapist must be accompanied by an art practitioner or someone who has an art educational background as a counselor. It is important to ensure that the art therapy process is carried out with a deep understanding of creative exploration, aesthetics and local cultural context. The rest of this article also examines that art therapy is also very beneficial for the general public without diagnosed health problems in maintaining their mental health.

Abstract

The Splendid Inn Hotel is a cultural heritage building in Malang City which was founded from two Dutch colonial houses in 1975 and has a unique collection of memorabilia from its visitors. This hotel consists of rooms, living room, lobby area which is attached to the restaurant, minibar and billiard area. Currently, this restaurant area has not been operating since the pandemic due to a significant decrease in visitors. The emergence of new hotels with more affordable prices and competition with other older hotels that have mature brand identities has led to a decline in hotel users. Based on previous research, it can be found that there is a need for a mature interior design concept to attract visitors and the interior design concept is influenced by brand identity. Therefore, this research aims to find the right interior concept by exploring the correct brand identity using three stages of the design thinking method. Through these three stages, a brand identity can be found with a slogan that represents the hotel and the right concept for the Splendid Inn hotel, so it is hoped that it can be applied to design and testing to increase visitor attraction.

Abstract

Based on the Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA), where problem-solving skills and critical thinking were measured the Indonesian students ranked below standard. In a smaller scope, there were other phenomenon in the learning process of a Design Methods class, in the Visual Communication Design programme at Binus University where students struggled to perform design analysis specifically on the part where the process of classifying which data belong to each of the three analytical aspects of the Triadic, despite definitions had been given in the prior session. In The Ethics, Aristotle thought about classifying as one of the thinking processes that would help in the process of analyzing. According to the Reboot Foundation, an institution dedicated to critical thinking research in the United States of America, critical thinking is needed in the decision-making process. The study was conducted to find the influence of the addition critical thinking method in C-F-C Triadic, one of the design thinking methods, in its learning process. The method in this investigation is qualitative primary data collection based on the observation of two different classes, class A and class B. In class A, the learning process was given following the existing learning process, while in class B, an additional short critical thinking demo was given in the first session of the class. The result was elevation in the analysis performance of the students in class B.

Abstract

Natural coloring in textiles has regained favor as the sustainable fashion movement grows. Fabric colour digitisation can help with data inventory of natural dyed textiles because digital data could endure longer than physical sample artifacts. In this research, digitization was performed on standardized fabric samples: cotton fabric dyed with indigo natural dyestuff and processed with batik and non-batik treatment. Indigo dye is made from the indigo plant (Indigofera tinctoria) and is fixed with quicklime (Calcium Oxide), which serves as both the initial and final mordant. Fabric dyeing was repeated three, six and nine times until the desired hue is reached. The final fabric samples were then scanned to produce discrete color values in RGB format. Color digitization of batik and non-batik fabrics produces content which can be used in digital mediums.
