Abstract

Impulsive buying has become increasingly prevalent among K-Pop fans, yet the psychological mechanisms underlying this behavior remain insufficiently understood. In particular, limited research has examined the moderating role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between celebrity worship and impulsive buying among early adults. This study investigated whether emotional intelligence moderates the association between celebrity worship and impulsive buying among 268 Indonesian K-Pop fans aged 20–30 years. Data were analyzed using multiple regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The overall model was statistically significant and explained 22% of the variance in impulsive buying (R² = .220, p < .001). Celebrity worship and emotional intelligence were both significant predictors of impulsive buying (p < .001). Furthermore, the interaction between celebrity worship and emotional intelligence was significant (B = 0.039, p < .001), indicating a moderating effect. Specifically, higher levels of emotional intelligence weakened the relationship between celebrity worship and impulsive buying, suggesting that emotional intelligence functions as a psychological resource that enhances self-regulation in consumer decision-making. These findings contribute to the literature on fandom behavior and consumer psychology by demonstrating that emotional intelligence can shape the behavioral consequences of celebrity attachment. The results also offer practical implications for counselors, educators, and marketers seeking to promote healthier consumption patterns among fan communities. Abstract

University students across the world are at high risk of depression with high prevalence rates in sub-Saharan Africa due to contextual stressors and limited access to mental health services. This causes students to employ self-directed coping strategies to manage depressive symptoms. One such strategy is music listening whose perceived effectiveness and challenges in this context are not well understood. This study examined the perspectives of twelve self-selected students at a university in Zimbabwe on the effectiveness and challenges of music listening for managing depressive symptoms. It adopted a qualitative descriptive phenomenological design. Data from semi-structured interviews were analysed using thematic analysis. Results revealed that students perceived music as an effective strategy for the elevation of mood, provision of solace and companionship, building a sense of agency and complementing other coping strategies. Perceived challenges included amplification of negative emotions, detachment from reality, frustration from mismatch between music and mood as well as overreliance which could deter seeking other forms of support. The results indicate the dual nature of music listening as a coping mechanism that both serve as a powerful self-regulation tool and a possible source of self-maladaptive rumination and avoidance. Such results demonstrate the necessity of combining knowledge about the current musical practices of the students with mental health promotion and advising students to use these practices more intentionally and in a balanced way. Keywords: depression; music listening; perceptions; university students; Zimbabwe

Abstract

This investigation aimed to examine the efficacy of a specifically developed educational program designed to reduce physical and psychological manifestations associated with the menopausal transition among women residing in rural communities. The research utilized a quasi-experimental methodology employing both experimental and control populations, where the study sample comprised 28 women between 45-60 years of age from residents of Moqbli and Karesh villages within Duhok governorate. Participants were allocated into an experimental cohort (15 women) and a control cohort (13 women). An intensive educational curriculum consisting of 8 instructional sessions distributed across two successive weeks was administered to the experimental group. The researchers constructed comprehensive menopause symptom assessment scales alongside physiological assessment of cortisol levels through ELISA testing, specifically tailored for this investigation to evaluate intervention effectiveness. Findings demonstrated statistically significant differences between experimental and control groups, favoring the experimental participants, confirming the educational program's effectiveness in reducing menopausal manifestations. The educational program was specifically designed to target the neurochemical changes that directly affect sleep, mood, cognition, and memory through comprehensive stress management techniques, relaxation exercises, and lifestyle modifications that support hormonal balance and neurotransmitter stability. The study advocates for broader implementation of such educational curricula in rural communities and advancement of specialized supportive services for menopausal women in underserved populations. Abstract

Psychological distress is a common mental health concern among university students and may be influenced by body image difficulties and low self-esteem. However, limited research has examined how self-esteem explains the relationship between body image disturbance and psychological distress among Nigerian undergraduates. This study investigated whether self-esteem mediates the relationship between body image disturbance and psychological distress among undergraduates in selected universities in Nigeria. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 401 undergraduates from three universities in Osun State, Nigeria. Standardised measures of body image disturbance, self-esteem, and psychological distress were administered, and the data were analysed using correlation, regression, and mediation analyses. Findings showed that higher body image disturbance was associated with lower self-esteem and greater psychological distress, while higher self-esteem was linked to lower psychological distress. Self-esteem partially explained the relationship between body image disturbance and psychological distress, suggesting that students with negative body image may experience greater distress partly because of reduced self-worth. The study highlights the importance of addressing self-esteem in university mental health interventions and contributes to the limited literature on body image and psychological well-being among Nigerian undergraduates. Abstract

As young adults become increasingly exposed to digital spaces where celebrities shape trends, identities, and everyday interactions, understanding the psychological implications of celebrity worship has become increasingly important. The study investigates the relationship between celebrity worship and psychological well-being among young adults, examining whether self-regulation moderates this relationship. A total of N=429 Filipino college students, aged 18–25 years were recruited using convenience and snowball sampling. The participants completed an online questionnaire through Google Forms, containing the Celebrity Attitude Scale-7, Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale, and the Self-Regulation Scale. Results reveal that celebrity worship negatively predicts psychological well-being (B = -0.4451, p = .027), while self-regulation positively predicts psychological well-being (B = 2.3835, p =

Abstract

Generation Z has grown up in a digital era marked by high creativity, broad social connectivity, and intensive engagement with technology. However, these developments are accompanied by increased vulnerability to stress and anxiety. This study examined the relationship between perceived parenting styles and coping strategies among Generation Z. A quantitative correlational design was employed, with participants selected using accidental sampling from Generation Z individuals residing in Bandung who met the study's inclusion criteria. The Scale of Perceived Parenting Styles (SOPPS) was used to measure parenting styles, while the Ways of Coping Scale (WOCS) assessed coping strategies. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation after the assumptions of normality and linearity were satisfied. The findings indicated that only several dimensions of perceived parenting styles were significantly associated with coping strategies, whereas other relationships were not statistically significant. Significant associations were observed in both positive and negative directions, suggesting that the relationship between parenting styles and coping is more nuanced than a uniformly positive pattern. Overall, participants who perceived more supportive parenting tended to report greater use of adaptive coping strategies, whereas less supportive parenting was associated with a greater tendency toward avoidance-oriented coping in specific parenting dimensions. These findings highlight that the association between parenting styles and coping strategies varies across parenting dimensions and should be interpreted within broader developmental and sociocultural contexts. The study provides evidence that may inform the development of interventions and counseling services to support the psychological well-being of adolescents and young adults in the digital age KEY WORDS: Generation Z; parenting styles; coping strategies; emotional regulation; psychological resilience Copyright ©2026.
