Abstract

The Walat Formation is an Paleogen siliciclastic sedimentary rock formed in the Bogor Basin. Outcrops of this formation are widespread in the Cibadak area such as in Gunung Walat, the Sand Bongkok Complex, Aseupan Sand, and the Cicareuh River. Several studies have been done before on this formation. However, studies on provenance with petrographic methods are still rarely conducted, especially in the research area. This is the basis of this study. The data used in this study consisted of field data and previous research literature. The location of field data collection is located in the south of Gunung Walat, precisely in the Holcim Educational Forest (HEF) using the measured stratigraphic method. A total of 18 sandstone samples were using the petrographic. From one existing track, three facies were identified, namely Sp (planar-cross-bedded sand), Gh (clast supported, horizontally stratified gravel), and Fl (laminated sand, silt, and mud). This facies distribution is based on lithology, grain size, and sedimentary structure. Petrographic data indicate that the sandstones of the Walat Formation are mostly lithic arenite, sublithic arenite, and lithic-graywacke. Comparison of QFL composition shows that all sandstones come from orogenic deposits with Q compositions (78.51% - 97.74%), F (0 - 1%), and L (2.26% - 21.13%) meanwhile, QmFLt comparisons show originating from quartz recycled (three samples), transitional recycled (11 samples), and lithic recycled (four samples).

Abstract

The Salawati Basin is one of the basins located in the western part of the Bird's Head of Papua Island and is estimated to be of Tertiary. This basin was formed as a result of the activity of the Sorong Fault which began to be active since the Early Pleistocene. One of the rock formations that has the potential to become source rock in the Salawati Basin is the Klasafet Formation. The age of Klasafet Formation is between Middle Miocene and Late Miocene, which consists of claystone and limestone. Geochemical analysis is one of the techniques in interpreting the source rock potential. This analysis consists of three parts, namely the analysis of quantity, quality and maturity level of the source rock. From the results of the quantity analysis of source rock for the Klasafet Formation, the Total Organic Carbon (TOC) value ranges from fair to good. The quality analysis shows that the source rock of the Klasafet Formation tends to produce type III kerogen, while the maturity level analysis of the Klasafet Formation is in the immature-early mature zone.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of the Maruni Formation limestones in the Warmare area and its surroundings in Manokwari Regency by using geological mapping, and petrographic and paleontological analysis. Based on physical, petrographic and paleontological characteristics, the limestone facies in the study area consist of packstone, wackestone, mudstone and crystalline. Limestone diagenetic processes that occur in the study area are cementation diagenesis and neomorphism. Limestone depositional environment consists of two depositional environments. First, the depositional environment is in a shallow ocean shelf with limited circulation (SMF10: bioclastic packstone/wackestone with worm skeletal grains and SMF18: Grainstone or packstone with abundant foraminifera or algae; FZ7-FZ8; Platform Interior – Openmarine, Restricted). After that, sea level conditions decreased, so that the depositional environment shifted towards the sea (SMF2: Micobioclastic peloidal calcisiltite and SMF3: Pelagic mudstone/wackstone – FZ3: Toe of Slope). However, in the complex classification of facies, the research area is included in the lagoon depositional environment.
