<![CDATA[A school is a strategic place to be used as a target in dental and oral health programs. Objective: This scoping review examines the effectiveness of various school dental health business programs and primary school-based dental and oral health education. Method: Library Search uses PRISMA guidelines for 2016- to 2022 publications retrieved from the Pubmed database. A total of three reviewers conducted a library selection. Results: A total of 10 articles were analyzed, and various interventions were obtained in the program of promotive and preventive efforts for dental and oral health in elementary schools. Conclusion: Promotive and preventive efforts in the primary school environment need to be collaborated by involving the roles of teachers, parents, and peer cadres. Media use in dental and oral health education must also be adjusted to school conditions, so education can run optimally.]]>

<![CDATA[Background: Tuberculosis is a chronic granulomatous disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. Globally, tuberculosis still becomes a threat to public health, with approximately 11 million infected cases every year. Based on WHO in Global Tuberculosis Report 2020, Indonesia (8.5%) becomes the second-highest country after India (27%). As one of the health workers with a high risk of being infected with tuberculosis, dental students are important to have good knowledge about the prevention and control of tuberculosis infection as one attempt to prevent the risk of tuberculosis infection in dental practices. Objective: To find out an overview of dental students’ knowledge level towards the prevention and control of tuberculosis infection in Dental and Oral Hospital of the Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University. Method: This study was a descriptive observational research with a cross-sectional study approach and was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 92 dental students who entered the clinical clerkship in 2019 and 2020. Results: The results show that 42.39% of students have a high knowledge level, 28.26% have a moderate knowledge level, and 29.35% have a low knowledge level. Conclusion: In this study can be concluded that the knowledge level of dental students who entered the clinical clerkship in 2019 and 2020 is still inadequate.]]>

<![CDATA[Background: Dental and oral health problem that is often experienced by people is tooth loss, therefore making denture is needed to replace missing teeth. This type of heat-cured acrylic resin is the most material used often for denture bases. Denture cleanser is necessary to avoid the growth of microorganisms. Persea Americana seed extract is one of the alternative natural ingredients that can be used as a denture cleanser because it inhibits the growth of microorganisms. The combination method is the most effective method for cleaning dentures and can affect the surface roughness of acrylic resin. Aim: To find out the effect of avocado seed extract (Persea Americana) on the surface roughness of acrylic resin denture heat cured. Method: This type of research is an experimental laboratory with pre-test and post-test group design. The study samples were 20x10x3 mm heat-cured acrylic resin with 20 samples. The samples were immersed in Persea Americana seed extract with 100% concentration for ten days and brushed for 45 minutes with a mass of 200g. Results: The results showed a significant change in the surface roughness of heat-cured acrylic resin after using a combination method cleanser with 100% concentration of Persea Americana seed extract (P<0,05). Conclusion: Persea Americana seed extract with 100% concentration was effect on surface roughness of heat-cured acrylic resin.]]>

<![CDATA[Calcium phosphate has been widely used in bone regeneration applications. Originalkalsium fosfat merupakan biomaterial yang sering diaplikasikan ke dalam defek tulang dengan tidak memberikan efek toksik pada jaringan sehat.The most commonly used calcium phosphate are hydroxyapatite and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP). β-TCP is one of the bioceramic materials that has chemical structure of β-Ca3(PO4)2. The use of β-TCP is widely used in medicine and dentistry as bone graft due to bone loss. β-TCP is used to fill and repair bone deficiencies to regenerative new bone formation. In dentistry, β-TCP can be used for periodontal disease therapy, pre-implant surgery to fill a post-extraction socket before implant application, post-surgical removal of benign tumors, post-endodontic bone healing such as apicoectomy and drug delivery. Various studies have shown β-TCP has better osteoconductive, biocompatible, biodegradable and bonding strength to bone tissue properties than hydroxyapatite. This article reviews the use of β-TCP as a substitute for hydroxyapatite in medicine and dentistry for bone substitution materials.]]>

<![CDATA[Background: Clinical experience and knowledge are important factors for determining clinician's confidence level in performing dental procedures. The success of fixed partial denture treatment is the accuracy of clinicians. Clinicians will undergo education to gain knowledge and practice skills in the treatment of fixed partial dentures. During education, dental students must feel confident in order to support the success of treatment so this must be based on the right method to avoid failure in the treatment of fixed partial dentures. Objectives: To know the confidence level of dental students when performing fixed partial dentures procedures. Methods: This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional study design. Results: 53.6% of respondents were included in the confidence category while for the level of knowledge included in the category of knowing 56.6% of respondents. The highly confident category was seen to have the highest scores on questions regarding the interpretation of anamnesis results in patients who want to have fixed partial dentures treatment and on the group of questions knowledge about the success of the fixed denture procedure. Conclusion: KBK19’s dental students are predominantly falls in the category of confidence and knowledgeable regarding fixed partial dentures procedures.]]>

<![CDATA[Abstract: Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a public health problem defined as the presence of one or more teeth with carious lesions in children aged 6 years or younger. ECC can affect a child's well-being, growth and quality of life. Factors such as poor oral hygiene, bacterial invasion, poor dietary habits, and the presence of enamel defects can contribute to lesion formation. The risk of ECC may also be due to breastfeeding or formula feeding overnight. The aim of this study to determine the role of breastfeeding and formula feeding through bottles on Early Childhood Caries (ECC). This Scoping Review was conducted according to Preferres Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and two database (PubMed and Google Scholar). The results showed that the initial search yielded 183 documents. After eliminating duplicate studies and screening full-text articles for eligibility (n = 35), we identified 7 studies that met the criteria for inclusion. The duration, frequency and night-time feeding of breast milk and bottle milk supported by other environmental factors may increase the risk of Early Childhood Caries (ECC).]]>

<![CDATA[Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting a large number of populations. Patients with cancer infected with this virus require a longer treatment. Cancer occurs due to oxidative stress which creates an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the amount of antioxidants in the body. Antioxidants are needed to balance ROS and increase the body's resistance to infection and disease. Clitoria ternatea L. is known to be one of the natural ingredients that has the potential as a natural antioxidant. It contains active compounds, such as anthocyanin and myricetin which act as antioxidants. Purpose: To find out the comparison of antioxidant activity C. ternatea L. extract in ethanol 70% solvent with the antioxidant compounds of anthocyanin and myricetin. Method: Research with laboratory experimental methods. C. ternatea L. simplicia was extracted using maceration method in 70% ethanol solvent. Antioxidant activity test using the 2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method was carried out on samples of C. ternatea L. ethanol extract, anthocyanin and myricetin antioxidant compounds with a wavelength of 517 nm to measure their absorbance using a microplate reader. Result: The IC50 value of the ethanol extract of C. ternatea L. was 52.40 mg/mL, the antioxidant compound anthocyanin was 27.68 mg/mL and the antioxidant compound myricetin was 4.89 mg/mL. Conclusion: The antioxidant compound myricetin has very strong antioxidant activity compared to the ethanol extract of C. ternatea L. and the antioxidant compounds of anthocyanins.]]>

<![CDATA[Background: Dental and oral health is important to maintain a healthy body, the prevalence of dental and oral problems in DKI Jakarta was as high as 59.1% and only 16.4% received services. After the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, people felt anxious visiting dentist for fear of being infected. This caused a change in the pattern of patient visit. Objectives: To describe patient visit at RSGM-P USAKTI before and after the operation of negative pressure room. Methods: Descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design to describe patient visit at RSGM-P USAKTI before and after the operation of negative pressure room in 2019-2021. Results: A total of 21,761 visits were recorded before the pandemic. There was a decrease before (1,472 visits) and an increase (5,929 visits) after the operation of negative pressure room. Female patients were more recorded. During pandemic there was a decrease especially in patients aged ≤11.9 years, number of caries cases increased, and visits after the negative pressure room was operational during the pandemic increased. Conclusion: Patients visit decreased before and increased after the negative pressure room operated. However, counseling regarding the importance of negative pressure rooms to public is crucial.]]>

<![CDATA[Background: Tooth loss is a dental and oral health problem that often occurs in the wider community with a multi-factorial process involving dental caries and periodontal disease. The prevalence of tooth loss increases with age, especially in Indonesia. Dentures are one of the treatments that can be used to improve appearance, phonetics, and to replace missing teeth. The Resta questionnaire was modified and tested for validity and reliability so that it could be used in this study to evaluate the maintenance behavior of removable partial dentures. Goals: To find out the overview of removable partial dentures maintenance behavior in acrylic resin removable partial dentures wearers in RSGM-P Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University. Methods: The type of this research is descriptive observational with a cross-sectional study design. This research was conducted by distributing the modified Resta questionnaire to 96 respondents who had received acrylic resin removable partial dentures treatment by dentists and dental students at RSGM-P Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University. Result: As many as 51% of respondents had the behavior of maintaining removable partial dentures which were in the sufficient category. Conclusion: The results obtained are that many of the acrylic resin removable partial dentures wearers at the RSGM-P Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University have quite good at removable partial dentures maintenance behavior can be due to the patient's fairly good knowledge of the dentures post-insertion instructions given by dentists or dental students.]]>
