Abstract

Background: Brown sugar is a food ingredient that is often used in food and beverages that we consume daily. Brown sugar can cause discoloration in dental restoration material. Purpose: To determine the discoloration of temporary crown direct technique bis-acryl composite resin after soaking in milk tea that contains brown sugar. Research Methods: Method of this research is laboratory experimental. Total of 10 samples were divided into 2 groups, 5 samples of the first group were immersed in milk tea, while 5 samples of the second group were immersed in milk tea that contains brown sugar with duration of 10 minutes each day for 7 days. The discoloration of the material were tested using VITA Easyshade V. Data results from the color test were processed statistically by T Test . Results: From this study, it can be said that there were no significant color change in all samples because the p value of all the color indicators (ΔE, ΔL, ΔC, and ΔH) > 0.05. Conclusion: There was no significant color change in of temporary crown direct technique bis-acryl composite resin after immersed in brown sugar milk tea.

Abstract

Background: Non-vital anterior tooth discoloration is a common concern in everyday clinics. Increased patient demand for affordable and excellent results makes bleaching treatment for discolored teeth one of the most popular treatment options. Bleaching offers a more conservative and aesthetic solution compared to treatments like dental crown. Objective: To restore the color of the upper right maxillary incisor after endodontic treatment using internal bleaching with 35% hydrogen peroxide. Case: A 22-year-old male patient came with a complaint of discoloration of upper right maxillary incisor. On clinical examination, upper right maxillary incisor was discolored. On radiographic examination, radiolucency was observed in the periapex. Endodontic treatment was performed with biomechanical preparation using circumferential filing technique and obturation of root canals using a thermoplastic injection technique. At the next visit, an intraoral photo was taken, and the color upper right maxillary incisor was determined using a shade guide. Intracoronal bleaching was performed using 35% hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel. After the color of upper right maxillary incisor has blend well, then the teeth were restored using a composite resin. Conclusion: Intracoronal bleaching treatment with 35% hydrogen peroxide is a conservative and aesthetic treatment to restore the color of the tooth with an excellent result.

Abstract

Introduction: Gingival hyperplasia is often treated with gingivectomy. Nowadays, gingivectomy can be done using a laser. This review aims to describe several types of laser used in gingivectomy along with their benefits and disadvantages. Literature review: There are 4 types of laser that can be used in gingivectomy: diode, CO2, Neodymium YAG (Nd:YAG), and erbium: YAG (er:YAG). Laser gingivectomy provides precise cutting, minimal trauma, and good hemostatic property, thus increasing patients comfort. Discussion: Each type of laser has its own benefits and disadvantages. Diode laser provides effective soft tissue cutting and good hemostatic properties along with economical price and size. Conclusion: Laser gingivectomy offers more benefits than conventional gingivectomy. Diode laser can be used effectively for gingivectomy due to its good soft tissue penetration and economical properties

Abstract

Stain is one of the aesthetic problems in removable dentures that still occurs due to the lack of knowledge about denture staining. The knowledge of patients using removable dentures regarding denture staining still needs to be improved so that the use of dentures can last a long time. Objective: To find out the description of the knowledge of patients using removable dentures regarding denture staining. Methods: The study was conducted on users of removable dentures at the TNI AD Hospital, East Jakarta. The sample required is 57 respondents. The type of research used is descriptive observational research. This study used a purposive sampling technique with data collection through a questionnaire consisting of 24 items online. Results: About 84% of patients do not have the habit of drinking coffee, tea and soft drinks and smoking or chewing tobacco which can cause denture staining. In addition, about 63% of patients have a good knowledge of denture staining. Conclusion: Patients using removable dentures at the TNI AD Hospital in East Jakarta have a fairly good knowledge of denture staining.

Abstract

Background: 3D Printing is rapid prototyping or also known as additive manufacturing, which is the process of creating three-dimensional objects by adding material layer by layer to create objects or structures using computer-aided design and manufacturing. The development of technology in the field of dentistry in the manufacture of dentures is currently experiencing rapid progress, namely 3D Printing technology. As prospective dentists, students must have a good knowledge of 3D Printing technology so that they know the use of 3D Printing for future clinical work when practicing. Objective: The aim of this study was to know an overview of dental students’ knowledge towards the 3D printing technology in the manufacture of dentures. Method: This is an observasional descriptive research with cross-sectional design. The measuring instrument used to measure student knowledge is using a self-designed questionnaire and has tested its validity and reliability using the pearson correlations and cronbach’s alpha. The distribution of questionnaire was done through google form link. Results: The total respondents in this study were 120 subjects. The research showed that the knowledge of students about 3D printing technology in the manufacture dentures in good category was 47 respondents (39.2%), a moderate category was 55 respondents (45.8%) and poor category was 18 respondents (15%). Conclusion: The knowledge level of dental students in Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University class of 2018 about 3D Printing technology in the manufacture of dentures dominated moderate category.

Abstract

Background: Proton pump inhibitors are drugs used to treat gastric acid secretion disorders by selectively and irreversibly inhibiting the proton pump. Previous study has shown that the addition of proton pump inhibitors to sodium hypochloride has a higher antibacterial effect. This research was conducted on Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli which have proton pumps. Objective: To examine the antibacterial effect of the combination of NaOCl 5,25% with esomeprazole on the growth of E. faecalis and E. coli. Methods: This is an in vitro study with a post-test only control design. This study was done at the MiCORE Laboratory of Trisakti University Faculty of Dentistry. There were six treatments for E. faecalis and E. coli. The six treatment groups were esomeprazole 4%, esomeprazole 8.5%, omeprazole 8.5% combined with NaOCl 5.25%, esomeprazole 8.5%, NaOCl 5.25%, and aquadest. Results: In the treatment of esomeprazole 8.5%, combination of NaOCl 5.25% with omeprazole 8.5%, and aquadest shown that no inhibition zones were found in both bacteria. The average value of the inhibition zone against E. faecalis was as follows, esomeprazole 4% combination (16.18 mm (SD±1,60)), esomeprazole 8,5% combination (14.20 mm (SD±0,21)), and NaOCl 5,25% (25.90 mm (SD±1,46)). Against E. coli, the average inhibition zone values were obtained as follows, esomeprazole 4% combination (16.68 mm (SD±1,68)), esomeprazole 8,5% combination (13.87 mm (SD±0,07)), and NaOCl 5.25% (30.22 mm (SD±1,08)). Conclusion: The combination of sodium hypochloride with esomeprazole was not better than 5,25% sodium hypochloride in inhibiting bacterial growth of E. faecalis and E. coli.

Results: The results showed that a small proportion of respondents had moderate knowledge about e-cigarettes, namely 39% who answered agree and 10% strongly agreed. While the knowledge of respondents about halitosis is very large, as many as 68% who answered agree and strongly agree as much as 17%. The level of knowledge about e-cigarettes on halitosis is closely related to the level of smoking habits. The importance of knowledge that a person has will affect awareness in smoking. Conclusion: Students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University class 2018-2020 partially understand the effect of e-cigarettes on halitosis.
