Abstract

This research addresses the growing importance of soft power in international relations, particularly through educational initiatives like the Türkiye Scholarships. The problem statement highlights the need for effective public diplomacy tools that can foster enduring connections between nations, specifically between Turkey and Indonesia. The Turkish Scholarship program is positioned as a strategic effort to enhance Turkey's influence and strengthen bilateral relations through cultural and educational exchanges. By focusing on these alumni, it aims to understand how their experiences in Turkey have influenced their professional lives and their contributions to fostering positive perceptions of Turkey in their home country. This research employs a qualitative methodology, utilizing a case study approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with six Indonesian graduates working in various sectors of the Indonesian government, including banks, ministries, and universities. The interviews were conducted between September and October 2022, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of the graduates' experiences and their impact on Turkey's diplomatic efforts. The findings reveal that Indonesian graduates of the Türkiye Scholarships have successfully integrated Turkish values into their careers and daily lives, serving as informal ambassadors for Turkey. Their positions in key governmental roles signify a significant soft power investment for Turkey, as they actively contribute to projects and collaborations that enhance bilateral relations.

Employee productivity plays a critical role in determining organizational success, influencing profitability, efficiency, and global competitiveness. This research investigates the determinants of employee productivity in factories within the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (RGPPSEZ), focusing on welfare facilities, wages and benefits, working conditions, training and development, and employee motivation across 20 factories. A quantitative research design involved gathering data from 600 workers through structured questionnaires. The data was analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to examine the relationships between independent variables: welfare facilities, wages and benefits, working conditions, training and development, and employee motivation and the dependent variable: employee productivity. The findings indicated that welfare facilities and training and development significantly impacted employee motivation, which in turn positively affected productivity. Interestingly, wages and benefits and working conditions showed no significant impact on motivation while the relationship between training and development and employee productivity was deemed insignificant. These insights highlight the importance of prioritizing welfare facilities and robust training programs to enhance employee motivation and productivity within the RGPPSEZ context.

Abstract

This study explores effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on Cambodia's workforce as AI becomes increasingly prevalent in work and education. Concerned about potential job displacement, the research investigates how AI is changing job roles, required skills, and employment patterns across various Cambodian industries. Using a quantitative approach, the study surveyed 435 individuals from different sectors and analyzed the data through simple and multivariate regressions. The findings indicate a strong link between AI and workforce dynamics. Specifically, task characteristics, specialized AI domain knowledge, and AI-driven information processing positively influence workforce changes. Interestingly, general AI skills and knowledge did not show a significant impact. Supplementing the quantitative data, interviews with key individuals offered insights into future of AI in employment, raising worries about job losses, data privacy issues, and unequal access. However, interviewees also acknowledged AI's potential to boost productivity and benefit both employers and employees through ethical implementation, reskilling initiatives, and collaborative approaches. The study concludes by recommending that businesses invest in strategic AI integration, specialized training, talent acquisition, and job redesign to effectively leverage the transformative power of AI.

Abstract

Higher education plays a pivotal role in national development, particularly in rapidly evolving societies like Cambodia. In Cambodia, where the higher education landscape is undergoing rapid transformation and expansion, understanding and developing effective academic leadership is particularly crucial. Strong academic leadership is essential for navigating the complex challenges facing higher education today, including globalization, technological advancements, evolving student demographics, and increasing demands for accountability and quality assurance. Despite the acknowledged importance of academic leadership in higher education, there is a limited understanding of the specific experiences and factors that contribute to successful academic leadership within the unique context of Cambodian universities. A phenomenological study was employed for interviewing and collecting the insights from 12 academic participants in universities. This study examines the experiences and challenges faced by university leaders in Cambodia, as well as the key factors contributing to their success. Drawing on data analysis of career paths and leadership development. The research reveals that Cambodian university leaders bring diverse prior experiences to their roles, including teaching, administration, research, and non-academic work, which provide valuable skills and perspectives. However, they also encounter significant challenges stemming from limited funding, faculty development needs, technological gaps, cultural expectations, and infrastructural limitations. Despite these obstacles, successful university leaders demonstrate visionary thinking, emotional intelligence, ethical decision-making, collaborative approaches, adaptability, and a commitment to innovation and transparency. These findings highlight the complex landscape of higher education leadership in Cambodia and offer insights into the qualities and strategies necessary for effective leadership in this context.
