Abstract

This study aims to describe the interaction dynamics and group processes in virtual - based group counseling. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on exploring interaction patterns, self-disclosure, group cohesion, and group development processes in virtual counseling settings through a descriptive qualitative approach. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method using literature review techniques from various scientific sources, including journals, books, and relevant academic publications published between 2019 and 2026. The findings indicate that virtual group counseling has different interaction characteristics compared to face-to-face counseling. Virtual settings provide flexibility and encourage greater self-disclosure among group members, but also present challenges related to nonverbal communication, emotional engagement, and member participation. In addition, group development processes continue to occur through forming, storming, norming, and performing stages, although they tend to be more implicit. Therefore, counselors need additional competencies in digital communication and virtual group management to support effective counseling processes.

Abstract

Students' psychological well-being is a central concern in higher education, as it shapes academic performance and overall quality of life. Social support, self-esteem, and psychological well-being serve as the central variables explored in this study, with students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya as the research population. A quantitative correlational design was adopted, with 303 active students recruited through purposive sampling. Data were gathered using Likert-scale instruments and analysed via Spearman's rho correlation, selected after all variables failed the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test (p < .05). Findings revealed that social support is positively and significantly associated with psychological well-being (r = .489, p < .05), while self-esteem showed an even stronger positive association (r = .690, p < .05). Moreover, social support correlated meaningfully with self-esteem (r = .606, p < .05). These results indicate that internal resources specifically self-esteem play a more decisive role than external resources in predicting student well-being. Practically, the study recommends that university counselling programmes integrate both self-esteem enhancement initiatives and social network strengthening to foster optimal psychological health.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group guidance services using symbolic modelling techniques in improving career planning among ninth-grade students at SMPN 1 Karangsembung. The novelty of this study lies in the application of symbolic modelling techniques in group guidance services to enhance students’ understanding of self-potential, career information, and career decision-making. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method and a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 10 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using career planning scales, observations, and interviews. The results showed that students’ career planning increased from 51% in the low category to 73% in the high category after the treatment. The Paired Sample T-Test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that symbolic modelling techniques were effective in improving students’ career planning.
