Abstract

This study aimed to improve the college students’ active participation and results in learning the Elementary Social Science subject by using Jigsaw cooperative learning technique and explain their responses to the implementation of the technique. This is a Classroom Action Research. The sample and population used in this study were the students in the F 2015 class who consisted of 38 students; 11 men and 29 women. The data used are observation, learning results/scores, and the students’ responses which were supported by documentation and field notes. Simple quantitative and qualitative descriptive data analysis were used in this research. The results of the study showed an increase in the participation and results, from 72.25% (27 active students) and 73.25 as the average score in Cycle 1 to 83% (32 active students) and 84.5 as the average score in Cycle 2. The students also showed a positive response to the implementation of Jigsaw cooperative learning technique.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the motivation of mathematics learning in high school students of 10th grade. Data collection method is done in the form of survey conducted in Purbalingga. The instrument used is a questionnaire of motivation to learn math. Interview method is also done to get additional data which is used as supporting data in conducting analysis of data obtained previously. The result of the survey shows that the students of both schools have a high motivation to learn math with an average of 3.39. Based on the results of the analysis, a lot of the students who have high learning motivation on math dissatisfied with the value of daily tests and examinations with an average index of 2.31. It shows that high learning motivation is not enough to get a satisfactory value. The statement was corroborated by points on the understanding of mathematical material that was only able to obtain an average index of 2.56. Based on the results of interviews from 3 students, they wanted to use a good learning media that had three characteristic, that was a learning media that taught students not to give up easily, that was able to bring out a sense of pleasure, and that was challenging. Therefore, beside high learning motivation, understanding of mathematics materials supported by the use of good learning media is also required.

Abstract

This study was conducted using qualitative approach, which aims to determine the role of students’ intuition in solving basic mathematical problems. Polya problem-solving steps was used for data collection followed by in-depth interview towards the subject of the study. The interview was conducted to know whether the subjects solve the problems intuitively or not. The subjects of the study are the first semester male students of Muhammadiyah Cirebon University. The result of this study indicates the role of mathematics student intuition in solving basic mathematics problems as follows: (1) In the process of learning basic mathematical problems, the subjects learn some basic mathematical problems intuititively. (2) In making problem-solving plans, subjects tend to use the role of direct intuition. (3) In making plans and applying mathematical problem, the subjects solve some problems without the role of intuition.
