The article is based on a field study investigated the general map of religious art and culture in Banten, a province on the western tip of the island of Java , known as a strong Islamic identity. Using the theory of concentric circles and approaches the sub- division of Tawheed Art built by Razi Ismail Al-Faruqi, a work of this initial study resulted in interesting findings. Namely, the Banten community, an expression of art and culture has a high degree of heterogeneity, and fills the entire concentric circles. In fact, most of the growing culture of artistic expression in Islamic Banten not show a strong color, especially in the hilly areas and the agricultural community as well as around the coast. Islamic art and culture in Banten are generally found in urban areas and in some areas since the beginning at the center of the spread of Islam.Keywords: expression of art and culture, the concentric circles, the sub-division

Bali is famous for all yadnya ceremony, full of art and culture is created by full-adi noble charm as relics of the ancestors of Indonesia. Was in the ceremonial procession to always use the big dance that are sacred also entertain the audience. One of the sacred dance that is danced Mask Dance Sidakarya after the ceremony is completed. Sidakarya Mask Dance is a mask dance that is danced to the realization of success in any yadnya ceremony in Bali. It begins with the sacred journey of a pastor from Java to Bali, until the establishment of Pura Dalem Sidakarya Sidakarya village located in Denpasar. Since the establishment of the temple, on the orders of the clergy, each resident who will carry out the ceremony to invoke tirtha or holy water to the temple and if the ceremony can present a rather large Sidakarya mask dance at the end of the ceremony as a sign of the success of the ceremony. Historically, it is proved that the coming of Islam into Aceh went on together with teaching and applying sufism. For the next term, sufism then internalized in Achenese life. Thus, there are many ulamas who mastered and taught sufism. They had left valuable heritage through their writing called manuscripts which can be used by the people, both in their era and the next generation. One of the sufi ulamas who left his writing works is Teungku Khatib Langgien arrived from Langgien, Pidie Regency. One of his works which is important is ¬i±’ul War± contained of sufi doctrines. Teungku Khatib Langgien can be catagorized as a wise ulama in discussing and teaching his people. He concerned their ability in understanding his teaching. In his book, I argue that the information inside is able to be read by any level of people and used in any time without limitted time.Keywords: sufism, manuscripts, Aceh, and ulama

This paper concerns on the mysticism teaching in the manuscript entitled Makamat. The objective of this study is to describe the physical condition of the manuscript and to analyze the content of the texts in the manuscripts. To examine these contents, it uses meaning analysis. Meanwhile, to describe the physical condition of the manuscript, it employs codicology. Finding of this research shows that generally the manuscript is in a good condition and readable. It consists of four texts, and the first text was chosen as the focus of this study. It reveals that there are philosophical explanations on the basic knowledge of fiqh including wudlu, thaharah and shalat (prayer). These elements of the fiqh contain several deep meaning related to the mysticism.Keywords: Makamat, tasawuf, fiqh, manuscript.

This article discusses the Malay manuscript of Surat Keputusan Ternate as a formal letter that was used in the past. This manuscript tells us a decree handed down by the royal permission Sultan Taajul Malik Amiruddin Iskandar Kaulain Syah to give punishment to Tambuku’s Kingdom because of rebellion against to Ternate. This manuscript contains the inspection violation process, the articles, and punishments for the perpetrators of the rebellion. The King of Tambuku and his commanders get a penalty in the form of exile. To understand this text, philological studies were conducted to produce text editing. The manuscript was transliterated from Jawi’s script to Latin’s script and was edited using the critical method to be easily read and understood. Moreover, the letter would be classified and the form and the structure would be analyzed to know how the previous letter is different from the ancient letter. Furthermore, this journal also described the incident that caused the writing of Surat Keputusan Ternate.Keywords: Malay Manuscript; letter structure; Tambuku; Ternate

Manuscript of Qawā‘īd Fawā‘īd (QF) kept in National Library is a theological manuscript embraced Asy’ariyah and Maturidiyah sects which tended to be more moderate than Khawarij and Mu’tazilah group. In its contents, this manuscript and also others defended the the purity of Islamic doctrine that is in line with Qur’an and Sunnah. Therefore, this reasearch opposes the arguments stated that Islam used and developed in Indonesia had been influenced by mistics from India and Persia. This research focuses on studying GF manuscript by elaborating any tendencies on theology developed in its term. Besides, this research also looks for red threat on how the relationship appeared among other manuscripts in term of theology. To analyse this manuscripts, this reasearch uses Philological and discourses analysis approach.Keywords: Texts, Islam, Theology, moderate, manuscript

The book Barzanji is one of the Arabic oral literary genre that generally, its user community does not comprehend its meaning; however, this literary work has been integrated in the Moslem community’s thinking pattern. a number of values in the user community’s thinking pattern. This research aimed at: (1) identifying and interpreting the oral literary text in line with linguistic paradigm, (2) revealing the value phenomena originating from social, cultural, and metaphysical themes, and (3) studying the user community’s comprehension that tends to retain the primordial image in accordance with the essential belief. Qualitative descriptive method was used. The research findings indicate that the intra linguistic are closely related to the extra linguistic ones meet in social theme contain values of respect, togetherness, brotherhood and appreciation, The cultural themes bear the values of calmness, happiness, gratitude, and the metaphysical (philosophical) ones have the value of belief, faith and conviction.Keywords: Barzanji, Linguistic, Social Cultural, Metaphysical Phenomena, Moslem Perspective.

Islamisation in Java is eventually important in understanding the current dynamic and contemporary affairs in Indonesia, particularly in the aspect of political, cultural, and idio-religous development. Ricklefs in his prominent work, Islamisation and Its opponents in Java, traces up the hitorical root of the Islamic movements in Java which goes back 14 th century. Based on his research of more than 40 years, he highlighted that Islamisation in Java, historically, was the dynamic process of the cultural interaction between Islam and Java. This article of the book review on Islamisation and Its Opponents, endevours to describe analytically of what and how the Islamisation process was methodologically narrated by Ricklefs. In additon, the reviewer intended to analize and evaluate critically the advantage and weakness of the book. Some findings might be underlined that there are still any historical variables need accomplishing as the most comprehensive work of the Islamisation in Java in its era. By the early 20th century, South Sulawesi is characterized by the strengthening of the Government of the Netherlands East Indies and the weakening of traditional authority. In addition, marked also by the presence of Islamic reform movement. Jamiyatul Mardiyah, Sarekat Islam, Shirathal Mustaqim and the Muhammadiyah Islamic reform organizations active in South Sulawesi, but in four of these organizations, Muhammadiyah it only works well developed. Sheikh Muhammad Jamil Djambek is a scholar of Islamic reformer in Minangkabau . He plays and took part in da'wah and tablig , especially broadcast practice of Islamic values in life Minangkabau communities, which has a philosophy of adat basandi syara’ syara’ basandi Kitabullah. Beside that Sheikh Muhammad Djambil Djambek commonly known as Inyiak Djambek , also an expert Falak Sciences . Having Science Falak, he set the direction of Qibla prayer and has constructed schedule of Ramadan Imsakiah. This research seeks to examine the persona profiles, roles, and gait Inyiak Djambek in the development and renewal of Islam in Minangkabau . The study used qualitative methods with a historical approach in revealing all aspects of the character's life, ranging from social background, education, role in propaganda and education activities patterns of thought and religious works, books and figures influencing institutional heritage,, influence his thinking for the community, and so on.Keywords: Inyiak Djambek , Islamic reformer, Minangkabau
