Abstract

This research contains a study of the effect of working hours on mental workload using the Subjective Workload Assessment Technique (SWAT) method. Workload is a consequence of activities given to workers, worker activities can basically be distinguished between physical activities and mental activities. In practice, the workload encountered is a combination of physical workload and mental workload. This study aims to measure mental workload at 10 work stations in the production section at PT Berlian Eka Sakti Tangguh. The SWAT method is a subjective mental workload measurement method based on workers' perceptions. The dimensions are time load, mental effort load and psychological pressure load. The results of the calculation of workload based on SWAT found that the workload category of workers in the production section is at a moderate and high level. The highest workload was experienced at the palm oil storage station (5 workers) at 83.71%. The lowest workload was experienced at the stewing station (3 workers) at 27.36%.

Abstract

The production process at PT. Grahadura Leidong Prima uses production equipment that has the potential to cause noise. Officers who operate the equipment are environmental components that are directly affected by the increase in noise. It is alleged that many company employees experience hearing loss when working in these units. This study aims to evaluate the noise in the work unit and determine the effect of noise felt by employees. The research was conducted by directly measuring noise sources for 3 shifts using a sound level meter. Measurements were made at a distance of about 1 m from the noise source at various positions and carried out manually every 5 minutes with an interval of 5 seconds, at maximum operating capacity. In addition, observations were also carried out on employees related to the impact felt while in the factory environment, as well as analyzing medical record data for employees who had worked in the unit. The results of data processing indicate that the machine has a noise level that exposes employees during working hours to exceeding the threshold value, where the noise level is 89.7 dB at the Sterilizer station, 89.6 dB at the Thresser station, while the highest noise level is at Press station 92.3 dB. With noise levels that exceed the threshold value, noise control is carried out using personal protective equipment (PPE) for each employee.

Abstract

A boiler Is a steam-producing closed vessel that can convert chemical energy from fuel into pressurized steam. The steam is used as an electrical power source and for the processing of oil palm fruit. Researchers use direct observation methods to identify specimens and parameters. To analyze the efficiency of thermal boilers and Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) using 100% fiber fuel and a combination of 70% fiber and 30% shell. From the results of this study, it is stated that using 100% fiber fuel produces 68.1% thermal boiler efficiency, and an SFC value of 13.37 kg/kWh is obtained. The combined fuel use of 70% fiber and 30% shell results in 74.2% thermal boiler efficiency and an SFC value of 10,98 kg/kWh is obtained. So that the efficiency of thermal boilers has increased by 6.1% and the SFC value has decreased by 2.39 kg/kWh.  The improvement in boiler performance and low SFC value is due to the high calorific value of fiber and shell combination fuel which is 12799.343 kJ/kg and low fuel consumption of 5492.53 kg/hour.

Abstract

Bucket elevator is a piece of equipment used to move material obliquely from the bottom to the top. At the Indarung V factory, bucket elevators are used to move the cement output from the tube mill to the sepack separator because the inlet position of the sepack separator is much higher than the oulet tube mill, which is about 20 meters. The component that often experiences failure is the chain on the bucket conveyor. After various considerations by the management at PT. Semen Padang brought back partners to replace the chain with better specifications. Finally the chain was replaced with a new one, type CNBH450-B12-A. From the calculation results it can be seen that the maximum chain tension is 34,129.83 kg, and the stress on the pin chain shaft when operating the bucket elevator in the raw mill unit is 14.798 N/m2, and the torque moment that occurs is 17.9256 N.m.

Abstract

A separator is a mechanical unit that functions to separate cassava starch from water. One tool that plays an important role in the continuity of the separation process in the separator is the electromotor. The electromotor functions as a drive in the separator. The type of electromotor used is usually an induction motor, this is because induction motors have several advantages over other types of motors, including having relatively high efficiency, simple and robust construction, and easy and inexpensive to maintain. One of the disadvantages of an induction motor is that it regulates the rotational speed of the motor. The rotation speed of an induction motor can be adjusted by changing the frequency using an inverter. This study aims to determine the effect of frequency changes on the rotational speed of a 3-phase induction motor using an inverter. The tests were carried out at a frequency of 25 Hz, 30 Hz, 35 Hz, 40 Hz, 45 Hz, and 50 Hz. From the research, it can be concluded that the lowest frequency of the induction motor to drive the bowl separator is 25 Hz, and the current will increase if the frequency is lowered.

Abstract

The research objects the authors observe in this paper is the large capacity of compressed air in the compressor contained in the energy unit at PT. Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk which is engaged in the pulp and paper industry. in the process of making paper pulp the machine used requires compressed air. The compressor used at PT. Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk is a 3-stage centrifugal compressor. The purpose of this study was to determine the capacity of compressed air in a 3-stage centrifugal compressor. We're at stage 1 which is the air input is processed until it reaches the specified capacity, then proceed to stage 2 with the same process and reaches the specified capacity continued at stage 3 then the processed air will reach the specified capacity and is the air output to the receiver tank. The amount of compressed air capacity produced by a 3-stage centrifugal compressor for each level is 5886 Nm3/hr.

Abstract

PT. Sumber Jaya Indahnusa COY is one of the companies in Indonesia engaged in the processing of palm oil with regional and domestic product marketing. PT. Sumber Jaya Indahnusa COY has problems related to the company's supply chain, where until now, the supply chain performance measurement management system is still not optimal. The measurements are still functional-based, carried out in each division or section in PT. Sumber Jaya Indahnusa COY. The solution to this problem is sought by measuring and improving the performance of the company's supply chain. The research method used is action research. Problem-solving is done using a supply chain operations reference approach. The results of supply chain performance measurement are 28 key performance indicators (KPI), namely 6 for the plan perspective, 8 for the source perspective, 4 for the make perspective, 6 for the deliver perspective, and 4 for the return perspective. The average total index value is 7.42. Based on the traffic light system, the index value is in the yellow category, indicating PT's supply chain performance. Sumber Jaya Indahnusa COY has not achieved the expected performance despite the results being close to the set targets.

Abstract

In this study, we analyzed the existing work processes in the lathe workshop. We identified the main problems affecting employee productivity and designed suitable solutions to improve their performance. This study aims to determine work methods for increasing employee productivity at the Lathe Workshop. The research was conducted at the Saudara Teknik ANO Lathe Workshop in Medan City, North Sumatra Province, and used the rapid entire body assessment (REBA) method. The results of calculating the %CVL for each employee obtained a value of <30%, which means that fatigue does not occur. And the results of calculations with the REBA method have a score between 4 to 7 which states that it has a moderate level of risk and needs corrective action. It is expected that improving this work method will provide significant benefits in increasing employee productivity in the lathe workshop. By implementing the proposed solutions, it is hoped that the efficiency and effectiveness of work processes can be increased, production time can be reduced, and the resulting product quality will be increased.

Abstract

PT. Lestari Alam Segar is a food industry company that manufactures instant noodles on Jalan Pulau Pinang III Kav. 600-342 E Ex. Saentis Kec. Percut sei Tuan, Kab. Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. PT. Lestari Alam Segar produces around 45,000 boxes per day. The purpose of this problem is to control the quality of finished products and identify the causes of product quality deviations using statistical tools, namely seven tools (check sheet, histogram, Pareto diagram, cause and effect diagram, scatter diagram, process flow diagrams, and control charts) so that it can determine the factors that cause product defects and the prevention that will be carried out. The conclusion of this study is that of the seven quality control tools that have been analyzed; it can be seen that the cause of quality deviation at PT. Lestari Alam Segar of the many product defects that occur, the most defective products are burnt noodles caused by three factors, namely humans, methods, and machines and preventive measures that can be taken from the human factor are providing strict direction and supervision and conducting training for operators.

Abstract

Cutting materials using a laser beam is one of the modern methods in machining processes to cut complex geometries in two dimensions using a laser beam. Laser cutting can be used in cutting acrylic materials. However, there are obstacles to producing good surface conditions. The use of appropriate process parameters dramatically affects the resulting surface roughness. Therefore, it is necessary to research to determine the parameters of the laser cutting process that are suitable for the surface conditions of the workpiece, which has a small surface roughness value. Three variations of process parameters were used, namely cutting speeds of 6, 8, and 10 (mm/s), laser focus points of 4,6,8 (mm), and gas pressures of 90, 100, and 110 (mm/s). The specimens that have been cut then measured the surface roughness using a surface test measuring tool. The measurement data is then analyzed using the Taguchi method. The results showed that the highest roughness value was found in the second experiment with a roughness value of 1.015 µm, and the lowest was in the seventh experiment with a roughness value of 0.225. To produce a small roughness value, the process parameters used are gas pressure 100 mm/s, cutting speed eight mm/s and focal point 8 mm/s, and the most dominant influence factor is the gas pressure parameter with a value of 7.494.
