Abstract

Biobriquettes are solid fuels made from compressed organic residues with adhesives. Bottom ash, a byproduct of boiler combustion at PT Blang Ketumba, and young coconut solid waste both have high calorific value and can be utilized as bio briquettes. This study uses a mixture of young coconut waste and molasses adhesive. The research aims to assess the benefits of these materials in bio briquettes, analyze the composition of bottom ash and young coconut waste, and examine the impact of varying ratios of these materials with molasses adhesive. The biobriquette production process involves mixing bottom ash and coconut waste with 2%, 3%, and 4% molasses adhesive in ratios of 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100. The resulting biobriquettes are evaluated for moisture, ash content, bulk density, combustion rate, and calorific value. The optimal biobriquette, with 25:75 bottom ash to coconut waste and 4% adhesive, showed 7.6% moisture, 5.9% ash, 14.76% volatiles, 71.74% fixed carbon, 1.74 g/cm³ density, 0.32 cal/sec combustion rate, and 5142 cal/g calorific value, meeting SNI 01-6235-2000 standards.

Abstract

This research at UKM Himasweet Tembung evaluated snack food (chocolate) packaging that was less attractive and standard, using clear plastic without information on halal logos, composition, or trademarks. The research aims to design more attractive packaging according to consumer desires, using the TRIZ method, which focuses on previous experience and eliminates contradictions. Adequate packaging is essential to protect products, convey information, and increase appeal. A survey method with a questionnaire of 100 respondents was used to collect data. Analysis using TRIZ produces recommendations for packaging improvements. As a result, the ideal snack packaging is a yellow aluminum foil standing pouch with dimensions of 14 x 25 cm (250 gr), yellow brand writing, ziplock, product information, and a picture of the snack (brown) to represent the product.

Abstract

Biopellets are an energy source derived from biomass that can serve as a substitute for fossil fuels. This study uses young coconut waste consisting of husks and shells and coconut shells as the main raw materials. This research aims to analyze the characteristics of bio pellets through proximate analysis, calorific value, density, and combustion rate tests. The bio-pellets are produced through a carbonization process using pine resin adhesive with varying raw material compositions of 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100, and adhesive concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30%—previous research combined coconut shells with instant coffee grounds to create bio-pellets. The results of this study indicate that the best bio-pellets are made from a mixture of young coconut waste and coconut shells with a 25:75 ratio and 30% adhesive concentration. These bio-pellets have a moisture content of 7.0%, ash content of 0.8%, volatile matter of 14.76%, fixed carbon of 76.96%, combustion rate of 0.028 g/min, density of 1.410%, and a calorific value of 7468.51 cal/g, meeting the SNI 8021-2014 standards.

Abstract

This research aims to calculate the amount of fuel in the multi-fuel boiler unit at PT Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk. A boiler is a closed steam boiler, and the heat of combustion is transmitted to the water until it becomes hot steaming water or steam. In the work process, it is necessary to calculate the total fired and moisture to determine the efficient level of maturity for each unit. In this research, the author found that the energy needed to evaporate water in fuel up to 0% was Palm Caul 2303.67 kcal/kg, Palm Shell 3833.25 kcal/kg, and Bark 1513.69 kcal/kg. The energy used in the Multi Fuel Boiler requires Palm Caul 186,688.4 kg/hour, Palm sheel 97,683.6 kg/hour, and Bark 181,508.9 kg/hour.

Abstract

Voltage drop is the amount of voltage lost in a conductor. The voltage drop on electric power lines is generally directly proportional to the length of the line and the load and inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area of the conductor. The magnitude of the voltage drop is expressed either in percent or in Volts. The analysis determines the voltage drop in the power distribution from the generator to the three-phase induction motor at PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II Sawit Hulu uses 30 meters of copper conductor cable with a cross-sectional area of 400 mm2. This type of copper wire material has an absolute sending voltage value of 389 volts and a total receiving voltage value of 385. So there is a voltage drop based on the length of the conducting cable of 4 Volts, and if it is a percentage, the voltage drop value is 1.03%.

Abstract

The study of wear on tool blades when cutting metal is important because it influences work results and production costs. Increasing metal hardness demands durability and strength of the chisel bit. Long periods of use and high speeds can cause wear, damage the chisel, and affect the quality of the results and production costs. This research uses a CNC lathe with a carbide cutting edge to cut mild steel. The cutting speed varies between 170 to 190 m/min with a cutting pass of 0.3 mm/revolution, a cutting depth of 0.7 mm, and a wear criterion of 0.3 mm. Turning was carried out for 2.5 minutes, then wear was observed using an optical electron microscope. The results show abrasive wear on the side of the chisel blade (flank wear) due to friction. A cutting speed of 190 m/min took 7:25 minutes, 180 m/min took 8:09 minutes, and 170 m/min took 8:36 minutes. This research proves that cutting speed influences wear rates, with wear primarily caused by abrasive friction.

Abstract

Feasibility analysis is the first step in knowing MSMEs. Emi Craft's business is engaged in the creative economy industry. This researcher aims to analyze the feasibility of the Emi Craft Home Industry bracelet accessories business in Medan City. Investment appraisal method criteria include Payback Period (PP), Profitability Index (PI) and Break Event Point (BEP). Based on the results of the Payback Period (PP) of 25 days for the investment return time and the Profitability Index (PI) value > 1, the results obtained are 14.1, and the results of the break-even point (BEP) in the unit are 1,923 pcs, and the BEP price is Rp. 153,840,000. So, it can be concluded that the bracelet accessories business at the Emi Craft Home Industry in Medan City is feasible to run.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a prototype IoT-based water flow sensor to monitor water flow in real-time. This prototype uses micro-scale water flow sensor technology that is sensitive and efficient in energy use. It combines it with an IoT-based wireless communication module to send water flow data to the server. The data obtained from these sensors can then be accessed and analyzed via the web or mobile application. This prototype also incorporates a monitoring element, where users can monitor water flow remotely via a mobile or web application.

Abstract

Computational Fluid Dynamics is a method for solving engineering problems, especially in cases of fluid flow, heat transfer and various related fluid phenomena such as chemical reactions. This CFD research aims as preliminary design to determine the effect of fluid flow passing through a split cylindrical object. There are three main elements in CFD programming to solve the problem of fluid flow through a split cylindrical object, (1) Pre-processor (2) Solver and (3) Post-processor which is the procedure used in this research. The flow value on the inlet side is 0.0001 m/s or in conditions Re ≤ 5 or in laminar flow conditions. The fluid used in this research is water with a density of 1.2 kg/m3. Then the resulting grid system or meshing is 21535 nodes and 21194 elements. The conclusion of this research is that the flow vortex that occurs in a split cylindrical object is smaller when compared to a cylindrical object, but the flow vortex that occurs is still larger when compared to a square object.

Abstract

This research highlights the importance of meeting employee needs to increase work efficiency and effectiveness at PT SEN, a company operating in the oil and gas industry. Using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method, this research aims to translate employee desires into technical attributes that management can implement. Through surveys and data collection from 25 respondents, the service attributes desired by employees have been identified, evaluated for validity and reliability, and linked to company performance. The research results show that several attributes, such as laptops with high specifications, comfortable workspaces, and integrated work dashboards, are top priorities for PT SEN employees. Service attribute performance is evaluated through the House of Quality (HOQ) matrix, and target values are set, guiding the improvement and development of necessary facilities and infrastructure. The analysis also leads to identifying unnecessary or less essential attributes of employees. In conclusion, QFD is a practical approach to determining priorities for meeting the needs of PT SEN employees. The analysis results provide significant insight to direct management in improving the work environment and service for employees by focusing on the attributes most prioritized by employee teams.
