Abstract

The torch parade tradition in Islamic New Year celebrations is a religious-cultural practice that persists in Indonesian Muslim communities, including in Ciwedus Village, Cilegon City. This study addresses two questions: what are the distinctive characteristics of the torch parade in Ciwedus, and how does the ontology of living hadith operate within this tradition through a structural-functional approach. This study employs a qualitative field research method. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews with religious leaders, community leaders, committee members, and residents, and analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing with source triangulation. The results show that the Ciwedus torch parade is conducted collectively on the eve of 1 Muharram, involving all segments of society, and is understood not as mahdhah worship but as a local cultural tradition filled with Islamic values. Four hadith values are actualized in concrete social practices: niyyah (intention) is reflected in communal prayer and self-reflection; hijrah manifests in the moral development of youth through active participation; ukhuwah is embodied in communal cooperation throughout the event; and the hadith on tasyabbuh serves as a moral guideline to keep the tradition within Islamic boundaries. This study concludes that the torch parade demonstrates how hadith values are internalized and reproduced through local cultural practice, social participation, and intergenerational transmission of religious identity

Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of bias in Artificial Intelligence (AI) through a real-world case study of user interactions with ChatGPT and Gemini within the context of Hadith studies. Employing an exploratory case study method via prompt engineering techniques and comparative data analysis, this research identifies representative bias and hallucinations. Each form of bias carries serious implications: the epistemological distortion of meaning and the displacement of scholarly authority by the pseudo-authority of AI. This study emphasizes the necessity of mitigation strategies, including utilizing AI solely as a "sparring partner," verifying AI-generated outputs against authoritative sources—such as religious scholars (ulama) and primary Hadith texts—and enhancing religious literacy. The findings assert that AI is not a neutral entity; therefore, its application in Hadith studies must be critical, purposeful, and grounded in authentic sources to remain within normative boundaries.

Abstract

An ideal life is often hampered by the burden of stress and overthinking due to environmental demands and excessive self-expectations, especially in the younger generation. The hadith yassiru wala tu'assiru, wabasysyiru wala tunaffiruu offers a relevant spiritual and psychological foundation to overcome such pressure through the principle of ease and the giving of good news. This study aims to analyze the application of the values in the hadith as a way to deal with existing problems in dealing with life pressures through a communication perspective. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. The data analysis technique used is content analysis with steps of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study show that the internalization of the hadith includes two dimensions: first, intrapersonal communication, in which individuals are able to build a positive dialogue with themselves and God to achieve inner peace. Second, interpersonal communication, which emphasizes behavior that facilitates other people's affairs and builds a supportive and solution-oriented social ecosystem. The contribution of this research is to provide a practical framework based on Islamic teachings for individuals to reduce anxiety through changing communication patterns, while offering a new perspective in the literature on Islamic counseling guidance related to stress management.

Abstract

This study is a living hadith research that aims to examine the manifestation of hadith within the ecosystem of an elderly Islamic boarding school at Pondok Pesantren Kasepuhan Raden Rahmat, Semarang Regency. Employing a qualitative approach through phenomenological and sociology of knowledge perspectives, this study analyzes how hadith is received, interpreted, and actualized within the pesantren ecosystem. The findings reveal that the establishment of the pesantren was inspired by the hadith concerning Uwais al-Qarni, particularly the value of birr al-wālidayn (filial piety), which was subsequently transformed into an institutional model responsive to the social and spiritual needs of the elderly. The study further demonstrates a dialectical process between hadith texts, individual understanding, and social reality, resulting in the internalization of values such as the enhancement of righteous deeds, awareness of mortality, and orientation toward husn al-khatimah. These values are embodied in daily practices, including intensive worship such as night prayers, dhikr, and Qur’anic learning, reflecting what may be termed embodied piety. Furthermore, the pesantren’s guiding concept of “Olah Rogo, Olah Jiwo, and Olah Roso” illustrates the integration of Islamic teachings with local cultural wisdom in fostering the physical, spiritual, and social well-being of the elderly. This study contributes theoretically to the development of Living Hadith scholarship, particularly within the framework of Islamic gerontology, by presenting an empirical model of how hadith is transformed from a normative text into lived social practice and institutional form. Conceptually, it demonstrates the integration of Islamic values with local cultural traditions in elderly care. Practically, it offers a model of community-based spiritual development for the elderly that is adaptive and relevant to contemporary societal needs.

Abstract

This study examines the reactualization of the interpretive principles of muhaddisin in understanding QS. An-Nisa’ verse 34, particularly regarding the dominance of misogynistic hadiths in tafsir bil ma’tsur. The research focuses on the interpretive methods of muhaddisin such as Ibnu Katsir, Al-Baghawi, and Muhammad al-Amin al-Syinqithi, who tend to interpret the phrase arrijālu qawwāmūna ‘ala an-nisā’ through a patriarchal narrative approach. This research employs a qualitative library research method using historical, sociological, and intertextual analysis approaches toward the tafsir works of muhaddisin. The findings reveal that the dominance of misogynistic hadiths in tafsir bil ma’tsur is influenced by the methodological tendency of muhaddisin to emphasize sanad authority and narration over contextual interpretation. The study also finds that the hadith “lan yufliha qawmun wallaw amrahum imra’ah” should be understood within the socio-political context of Persia at that time rather than as a universal prohibition against female leadership. Therefore, QS. An-Nisa’ verse 34 needs to be reinterpreted through the approaches of maqashid sharia, intertextual integration of Qur’anic verses, and a more proportional historical reading. This study concludes that the tafsir methodology of muhaddisin still possesses significant scholarly authority, yet it requires methodological reactualization to produce interpretations that are more just, contextual, and relevant to modern social developments. The novelty of this research lies in its epistemological critique of muhaddisin interpretive methods concerning women’s leadership while simultaneously offering a reinterpretation model of tafsir bil ma’tsur based on the integration of narrations, historical context, and maqashid sharia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the phenomenon of Muslim fashion trends among women from the perspective of the Prophet's hadith. Using qualitative methods with a descriptive-analytical approach, this study seeks to understand the dynamics of Muslim women's fashion practices in a contemporary social context. The results indicate that, from the perspective of the Prophet's hadith, following fashion trends is permissible as long as it does not conflict with Islamic law, which has established the principles of dress for Muslim women. The rapidly growing phenomenon of Muslim fashion trends, particularly through social media, reflects Muslim women's efforts to maintain a modern appearance without neglecting the obligation to cover their aurat (awrah). Islam, as a religion, provides normative guidelines regarding dress ethics, but does not prohibit Muslim women from following fashion trends as long as they remain within the boundaries of sharia. Therefore, this study recommends that Muslim women who wish to follow fashion trends continue to consider sharia values as the primary basis for selecting and wearing clothing. This study contributes to bridging the relationship between religious norms and modern lifestyle practices, particularly in the phenomenon of Muslim women’s fashion. It demonstrates that there is a dialectical space between Sharia and modernity, allowing Muslim women to express their identity through clothing without departing from the fundamental principles of Islamic teachings.
