Abstract

The first year of college is a critical transition period that can affect students’ motivation, stress levels, and risk of dropping out. This study aimed to determine the effect of psycho-education focusing on self-awareness on the social adaptability of 2024 Diploma III Nursing students. A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was applied. The population consisted of 190 students, with 20 participants selected through purposive random sampling. The intervention involved eight 60-minute psycho-educational sessions designed to help students recognize, understand, and reflect on their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in social contexts. The program was conducted from March 28 to May 3, 2025. Social adaptation was measured using the SACQ questionnaire, which demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.877). Results from the paired t-test revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and an average score increase of -12.050. These findings indicate that self-awareness interventions positively influence social adaptability, enabling first-year students to build relationships, adjust to new cultures, and face academic and social challenges more effectively. The study recommends implementing psycho-education programs as part of campus initiatives to strengthen social adaptation skills and provide preventive support for first-year students.

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition in which systolic blood pressure exceeds 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure exceeds 90 mmHg persistently. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can cause disorders in the circulatory system and vital organs such as the heart and brain. One non-pharmacological effort to lower blood pressure in hypertensive patients is through deep breathing relaxation exercises, performed twice a day for ten minutes. RSU Siaga Medika Purbalingga, located in Padamara District, has recorded the highest number of hypertension cases in the area, totaling 4,470 patients. Based on a preliminary survey, many hypertensive patients were unaware of the benefits of deep breathing relaxation therapy; therefore, a Community Service (PkM) activity was conducted in the hospital’s Internal Medicine Clinic. The method involved educational sessions using lectures and demonstrations, supported by leaflets and videos. Participants’ knowledge was evaluated using pretest and posttest questionnaires. The results showed that most respondents were female (60%) and aged between 46–55 years (40%). Knowledge levels significantly improved, from the “low” category (40%) before education to the “good” category (90%) after education. Thus, deep breathing relaxation therapy has the potential to be an effective alternative method to help reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

Abstract

Post-Cesarean Section (C-Section) patients commonly experience pain caused by surgical incisions in the abdominal area. Unmanaged pain may hinder mobility, interfere with breastfeeding, reduce comfort, and negatively affect maternal psychological well-being. Non-pharmacological pain management is considered an alternative to reduce dependence on analgesics. Foot massage has been proven to improve blood circulation, stimulate endorphin release, and reduce pain intensity, while Qur’anic recitation therapy (murottal) provides psychological and spiritual relaxation that helps decrease pain perception. This study aims to examine the effect of combining foot massage and murottal therapy on pain levels in post-C-section patients at Wijaya Kusuma ward, Limpung General Hospital. The benefit of this study is expected to provide a reference for nursing practice, particularly in implementing holistic non-pharmacological interventions to enhance patient comfort. This research employed a case study design with a nursing care approach involving four post-C-section patients. Interventions included a scheduled combination of foot massage and murottal therapy. Pain levels were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing pain levels before and after intervention. The results showed a reduction in pain intensity from moderate to mild after the combination intervention. Patients also reported increased comfort, improved rest, and reduced anxiety. In conclusion, the combination of foot massage and murottal therapy effectively reduces pain in post-C-section patients. This intervention can be recommended as a non-pharmacological method in nursing care for post-C-section patients.

Abstract

Hypertension is a global health issue with a high prevalence, requiring comprehensive management to prevent complications. Effective nursing interventions are essential in managing this condition, and the Benson relaxation technique has been identified as one of the non-pharmacological approaches to lower blood pressure. This case study aims to describe nursing care for decreased cardiac output in Mrs. M, a patient with hypertension, with a focus on the Benson relaxation technique as an intervention to reduce blood pressure. The research method used is a descriptive case study with a nursing care approach applied to a single patient diagnosed with hypertension. The selected patient is an individual over 18 years of age, diagnosed with stage I to stage II hypertension, has good cognitive abilities to understand instructions, and possesses physical conditions that allow active participation. Nursing care was provided over a period of three days, with the primary intervention being the Benson relaxation technique. Observational results showed a significant decrease in blood pressure: on the first day, the patient's blood pressure was 173/102 mmHg, which decreased to 130/90 mmHg by the third day. The average reduction in blood pressure over the three days was 12 mmHg in systolic and 5.3 mmHg in diastolic pressure. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Benson relaxation technique can be implemented as an independent nursing intervention to help reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the major public health problems in Indonesia, with incidence rates continuing to rise each year, including in Banyumas Regency. A preliminary survey conducted in Sudimara Village, Cilongok District, recorded 13 cases of breast cancer during the 2022–2024 period. However, the level of knowledge among community members, particularly PKK women’s groups, regarding early detection of breast cancer through mammography remains relatively low. This situation indicates the need for structured educational interventions to improve awareness and understanding. This Community Service Program (PkM) was aimed at increasing the knowledge of PKK women about the importance of mammography as an early breast cancer screening effort. The program was implemented through two sessions consisting of several activities, including a pre-test, interactive lectures, group discussions, educational video screenings, leaflet distribution, and a post-test to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. Out of 30 registered participants, 24 fully attended all sessions until the final stage. The pre-test results showed an average knowledge score of 53, with the majority of participants (62.5%) categorized as having low knowledge. After the educational sessions, the average post-test score increased significantly to 88, with most participants (87.5%) classified as having good knowledge. These findings confirm that health education using participatory approaches and varied media is effective in improving PKK women’s knowledge of early breast cancer detection. Furthermore, this activity provides practical evidence that community-based educational interventions can serve as a strategic model for empowering women’s groups to support breast cancer prevention efforts at the community level.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder with an increasing prevalence worldwide, which increases every year, making it a serious concern in the world. National surveys in mental health facilities indicate that nearly half of all clinical diagnoses involve hallucinations, precisely 49.77%. This investigation sought to evaluate the effectiveness of dhikr therapy as a means of moderating hallucinatory episodes in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia admitted to the inpatient section of Aceh Mental Hospital. By implementing a quantitative methodology with a pseudo-experimental design, the research adopted a one-group pre test–post test format. Out of 518 individuals who had hallucinations, only 15 participants were chosen as samples using purposive sampling considerations. Interventions in the form of dhikr therapy were carried out 5 times for 5 days, each lasting 20 minutes. The instruments used included the AHRS questionnaire to measure the level of hallucinations, it was found that the Alpha Coefficient = 0.607. The research took place during the period of March 17–21, 2025, and the dataset was processed using univariate and bivariate calculations, where the statistical method applied was the paired t-test. The results showed that out of 15 respondents before the administration of dhikr therapy, most experienced hallucinations in the moderate category of 8 respondents (53.4%) and after the administration of dhikr therapy, most experienced hallucinations in the mild category of 7 respondents (46.7%). Analysis results demonstrated that the p-value obtained was 0.000, smaller than the 0.05 standard, signifying that the application of dhikr therapy exerts a measurable effect in controlling hallucinations among schizophrenia sufferers. The findings conclude that the implementation of dhikr therapy provides a substantial contribution to the regulation of hallucinations in patients suffering from schizophrenia.

Abstract

Background: Early marriage remains prevalent among adolescents aged 15–19 years, a period during which individuals are often medically and psychologically unprepared to assume marital responsibilities. Decisions to marry early are influenced by internal factors such as psychological readiness, emotional maturity, and critical thinking ability, as well as external factors including family pressure, cultural norms, and economic challenges. Objective: This study aims to explore the factors influencing adolescents' decisions to engage in early marriage and examine its impacts on their lives. Method: This research employed a qualitative descriptive design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 10 adolescents who had experienced early marriage. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and document review, and analyzed thematically. Results: The primary factors contributing to early marriage in Delu Depa Village, Kodi Bangedo District, were premarital pregnancy (2 cases), economic hardship (4 cases), and limited educational attainment (4 cases). The consequences included psychological, health, and social impacts. Psychologically, participants reported experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression. Health-related risks included complications associated with immature reproductive organs, such as premature birth, obstructed labor, and preeclampsia. Social impacts included stigma, limited social interaction, school dropout, and employment in low-skilled jobs to fulfill daily needs. Conclusion: Early marriage poses significant risks to adolescents' psychological well-being, physical health, and social functioning. Strengthened preventive efforts and targeted interventions are needed to reduce its prevalence and mitigate negative consequences.
