Abstract

Marriage in general is closely related to the two foundations of community life, namelyculture and religion. Culture is a very important traditional wedding ceremony, because traditional marriage will still exist in a cultured society. The traditional marriage system of the Lamaholot ethnic group has a hereditary culture, namely the traditional marriage of belis bala. Belis bala is a sacred aspect for the Lamaholot ethnicity, where men cannot undermine a woman's dignity. This study aims to determine: (a) The perspective of the younger generation on the belis bala in the Lamaholot ethnic traditional marriage system and (b) the inculturation of the church towards the traditional Laamaholot ethnic marriage system. Supported by Marcel Mauss' theory of reciprocity in compiling this research and the research model was made with the type of qualitative research, including data collection by observation, interviews, literature study and data analysis to process research results. The results of this study indicate the perspective of the younger generation, namely, there are some of them who feel heavy belis bala and want relief, but some others consider the traditional marriage system of belis bala as a challenge for them to be able to have their idol girl. They still want to maintain this traditional belis bala marriage system. The church sees this as a tradition that must be maintained. The church follows the regulations made by the village government for the preservation of the belis bala marriage system.

Abstract

The form and function of the spatial structure of the traditional village of Pengotan are fully integrated with the life of the Pengotan Village community. Because the traditional house of Pengotan Village plays a very important role in various matters relating to community activities, especially the issue of sacred activities. These activities form a strong bond to the form and function of the traditional village of Pengotan. The traditional village of Pengotan strongly applies the upstream-teben concept to its location, shape and layout. Oriented to the north because it focuses worship on the Mount Batur region. The traditional village of Pengotan is built in a row between one house and another and is called the shadow puppet theater. The most purified building area is the northernmost and the most profane is the southernmost. There are three zones in a traditional house, namely: the upstream zone, the middle zone, and the teben zone. In the upstream zone there is a Sanggah building. the middle zone is the uma meten and bale adat building separated by natah. Then there are angkul-angkul in the teben zone. The form and function of the traditional village of Pengotan are integrated with the life of the people of Pengotan Village. Seen from the main function that is used for activities that smell sacred like traditional ceremonies. Especially large traditional ceremonies such as mass wedding and mass cremation. Behind the manifest function or function that is realized by the community there is a latent function that is not or has not been realized by the community. Abstract

Food and culture are closely related. Food is not only about eating processed food but has complex symbolic values. Sanggring Gumeno is a culinary tradition related to religion which is held every night of 23 Ramadan in Gumeno Gresik Village, East Java. Sanggring Gumeno is a food cooking activity called chicken compote to be served when breaking fast together. Chicken compote is believed to be a medicine, because it refers to the illness experienced by Sunan Dalem (Sunan Giri's first son) when broadcasting Islam in Java, especially in Gumeno Village. In addition, chicken compote contains the complexity of symbolic values in it. The theory used in this research is the food function theory from Foster and Anderson. This theory is useful for investigating and unraveling the symbolic values of Sanggring Gumeno. Foster and Anderson suggest that symbolically food can take the form of at least four expressions, namely (a) social ties, (b) group solidarity, (c) food and mental tension, and (d) food symbolism in language. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with observation and interview data collection techniques. Data analysis used interpretive descriptive analysis. The results showed that Sanggring Gumeno symbolically represented the religious attitude of the religious community. Through Sanggring Gumeno, the people of Gresik in general and the people of Gumeno Village in particular take advantage of this historic moment to tie ties (ukhuwah islamiyah). Sanggring's function related to religious rituals is found in the existence of social ties (family gatherings), group solidarity (mutual cooperation), and mental tension (feelings of belonging).
