Abstract

The Toraja people have a death ceremony which is usually called the rambu solo’. In carrying out the rambu solo’ ceremony, there is a process of buffalo sacrifice which is commonly called mantunu tedong. But now mantunu tedong have changed its meaning where formerly the tedong/buffalo that was sacrificed would be used as a vehicle and provision for the deceased to get to the spirit realm but now its become a place to show off wealth. This study aims to determine the function and meaning of mantunu tedong in rambu solo’ ceremony for the people of Salu Baruppu Village, North Toraja. This study uses qualitative methods, using interpretive theory and religious functions. Mantunu tedong for the people of Salu Baruppu Village, North Toraja has several functions, namely as a symbol of wealth and one's position in society and as a benchmark in carrying out the rambu solo’ ceremony, as well as strengthening kinship relations in society. Mantunu tedong is interpreted as a form of gratitude and final respect for those who have died.

Abstract

The people of Satarara Hamlet in carrying out their daily lives are based on the social system that exists in society, so that with the existence of a system, people can easily carry out everything in social life. This research was conducted to find out the elements that make up beo/golo are, and beo function in the social system of society. The method used in this research is qualitative by using structural functionalism theory and systems theory. This study uses several techniques in obtaining data, namely observation, interviews, and literature study. Based on the results of the study, the social system in society is a system formed because of the actions and interactions carried out by the community to achieve a common goal. As for some of the elements in forming a parrot, namely: Mbaru bate ka'eng, Natas bate Labar, Uma bate duat, Wae bate teku, and Compang bate dari. The system that is formed usually makes it easier for the community to carry out daily activities, be it in the form of deliberation, family activities, or mutual cooperation (dodo).

Abstract

Every region in Indonesia has cultural characteristics that are visible and manifested in one of them in form of traditional house architecture. The house is one of earliest forms of human knowledge which is only used as a place, shelter, protection from threats from natural environment or made according to their needs. As human experience and knowledge increases, both external and internal influences change little by little the initial form of traditional house. The main objective of this article is to understand the transformation of traditional mbaru gendang house in Ruteng Pu'u Village, the next objective is to understand the function of mbaru gendang in Ruteng Pu'u community. The method in this research is based on ethnographic principles, through interviews with traditional elders of Ruteng Pu'u Village, observation, literature study, and analyzing data obtained from the research field. The results research show that initially mbaru gendang did not have walls and windows and kitchen was still one with mbaru gendang. Currently mbaru gendang has walls and windows, as well as a separate kitchen from mbaru gendang. For Ruteng Pu'u community, this change does not eliminate identity of mbaru gendang as traditional house of people of Ruteng Pu'u. The function of mbaru gendang is still same as original function of mbaru gendang, namely mbaru gendang remains center for carrying out ceremonies, traditional assemblies, deliberations, and social orders.

Abstract

This research aims to understand the sustainability of coffee shop entrepreneurs during the Covid-19 pandemic, with a focus on how they adapt to social and economic changes The results of the study show that coffee shop entrepreneurs experience various challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, such as decreased number of customers and revenue, increased operational costs, and uncertainty about the future. The main findings show that coffee shop entrepreneurs who have survived during the Covid-19 pandemic apply different adaptation strategies, including expanding delivery services, adjusting menus, and strengthening branding through social media. In addition, the entrepreneurs also face challenges in maintaining the health of their employees and customers. This study contributes to an understanding of how coffee shop entrepreneurs can survive in crisis situations and provides advice for creative entrepreneurs in the future.

Abstract

Research related to traditional or pesi care in the Tueng Village community was studied by applying the theory of the Foster & Anderson medical system and the theory of the Hierarchy of resort Romanucci-Ross. The concept used as a reference in this research is the ata pessi and modern health. The method used is a qualitative research method, by collecting data including the determination of informants, observations, interviews, literature studies, and data analysis. The results showed that the people of Tueng Village still carried out pregnancy and childbirth care by ata pesi. This is influenced by the community's view of ata pesi which is inseparable from the socio-cultural life of the local community. There is also the process and mechanism of traditional ata pesi care in assisting the delivery process, namely, first or pesi doing cikeng, second entap wall, third poro putes, fourth cear sumpe ceremony. Factors that influence people still maintain traditional or pessary care, among others, distance, economic affordability, cultural similarities, hereditary factors.

Abstract

The Javanese language is a means of communication for the Javanese people which contains cultural values ??that can reflect the character of the speakers. Undha Usuking Basa or also known as unggah ungguh base is a level of speech in Javanese that is used to regulate the behavior patterns of the people. Nowadays, the Javanese language upload has decreased, especially among teenagers. From this phenomenon, two main problems can be drawn, namely (1) The attitude of adolescents towards survival is really high in the current era (2) Aspects that cause a decrease in the quality of the use of upload guh in teenage speakers. The theory used is symbolic interaction theory and semiotic theory. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive-qualitative type of research. Data collection techniques using observation techniques, interviews, and literature study. The results of the study reveal that there is a lack of concern for adolescents as the younger generation regarding the importance of preserving upload-ungguh for adolescents as well as the aspects underlying the decline in upload-ungguh namely internal aspects and external aspects.

Abstract

The development of the modern medical system is sometimes less able to efficiently answer various health problems experienced by the community. In handling fractures, the people of Ruang Village in come to ata mbeko tepo. This can be seen in the beliefs and habits of the people of Ruang Village who use the services of ata mbeko tepo. This study aims to explain the fracture treatment technique through ata mbeko tepo and explain the survival factors of ata mbeko tepo. Using the service of ata mbeko tepo in the treatment of fractures by the people of Ruang Village will use the theory of health behavior and theory of symbolic interaction, meanwhile the reason for the people of Ruang Village still choose ata mbeko tepo for the treatment of fractures using the theory of health belief model. This research uses qualitative research methods with ethnographic research models through observation techniques and interview. The result of the research show that the fracture treatment technique through ata mbeko tepo, improved massage techniques, massaged, and pulled the broken bone to return it to its original position.
