Abstract

Digital platforms have increasingly become arenas for cyber anti-intellectualism, where academic expertise is actively devalued by the public. This study investigates the linguistic construction of this hostility through a case study of the viral backlash against Dr. Ally Louk on Twitter (X). Employing Fairclough’s three-dimensional Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the research analyzes a corpus of 50-high-engagement replies to identify how anti-intellectual sentiment is textually produced and socially legitimized. The findings reveal that this backlash was not a series of random insults but a structured ideological performance driven by five discursive strategies, predominantly Hostile Populist Rhetoric (48%) and Mockery (46%). The analysis demonstrates that these strategies function to enforce a “market audit” on higher education, where a potent alliance of neoliberal rationality and cultural populism delegitimizes humanities research as economically “wasteful”. Furthermore, the study uncovers a distinct gendered dimension, where patriarchal norms are weaponized to reframe female intellectual labor as socially deviant. The study concludes that digital anti-intellectualism is infrastructurally amplified by platform affordances, underscoring the urgent need to shift the narrative of higher education from economic utility to civic necessity to counter the algorithmic amplification of populist resentment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of digital transformation on banking financial performance with firm size as a moderating variable. Banking financial performance in Indonesia shows a fluctuating trend with a decrease in Return on Assets (ROA) from 2.47% in 2019 to 1.59% in 2020, although experiencing an increase in 2022 to 2.01%. Digital transformation has become a strategic solution through reducing operational costs by up to 50-70%, creating new revenue streams, and increasing customer lifetime value. This study uses panel data from 29 banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2020-2024 with a total of 145 observations. The analytical method employed is Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) with a Fixed Effects Model. The results show that digital transformation has a significant positive effect on financial performance (β = 0.0089; p = 0.029). Firm size is proven to moderate the relationship between digital transformation and financial performance positively and significantly (β = 0.0004; p = 0.047), indicating that larger banks obtain more optimal benefits from digital transformation compared to small and medium-sized banks. This study contributes theoretically to the Resource-Based View (RBV) in the context of digital transformation and provides practical implications for banking management in designing digitalization strategies tailored to firm size.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between customer satisfaction and retention for air conditioners (ACs) sold in retail stores in Medan, as well as the impact of the marketing mix. This quantitative study surveyed 1,614 AC buyers from 14 retail stores in Medan (May–September 2025) and analyzed the data using PLS-SEM to test validity, reliability, and hypothesis significance. The results show that all four marketing mix variables significantly affect customer satisfaction, with place (store location and accessibility) having the strongest influence, followed by price and product, while promotion negatively affects satisfaction. Customer satisfaction strongly predicts loyalty, and loyalty significantly influences customer retention. The mediation analysis confirms that loyalty and satisfaction together enhance the effects of marketing mix variables on retention, although promotional efforts can reduce satisfaction and weaken retention when poorly executed. By examining the air conditioner market in Indonesia through the 4P marketing mix framework and the satisfaction-loyalty-retention linkages in the retail sector, this study adds to the marketing literature. The results shed light on an understudied aspect of retention in the air conditioner market—the importance of store accessibility and customer experience—and provide managers with insight into how to optimize location, service, and value-based strategies rather than relying solely on price or promotion. These findings suggest that management needs to focus on strategic locations and quality service to improve customer satisfaction. Businesses are advised to shift from aggressive promotions to value strategies such as after-sales service and loyalty programs.

Abstract

Peatlands play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of the global ecosystem and the sustainability of local communities. However, various development policies, such as the One Million Hectare Peatland Development Project (PLG) and the Food Estate program, have demonstrated failure in sustainably managing peatlands, leading to environmental degradation, social conflict, and economic inequality. This article proposes an alternative approach based on Islamic Ecological Justice, integrating sharia principles—such as tawḥīd, khalīfah, mīzān, and maṣlaḥah—into a Khilafah-based peatland governance system. This research employs a qualitative approach through a thematic literature review covering five focuses: peatland ecological characteristics and challenges, national policies and their failures, sensor-based environmental monitoring technology, Islamic ethical principles in natural resource governance, and community-based adaptive cultivation strategies. The findings indicate that technocratic approaches have not been able to address the ecological and social complexities of peatlands. In contrast, the application of monitoring technology developed by researchers, combined with a public funding system through the Baitul Mal (Islamic Baitul Mal), and adaptive cultivation based on Islamic bioeconomics, offers a holistic solution framework. This approach is not only technically and socially relevant but also confirms that Islam provides a paradigm for natural resource governance that is just, preventative, and sustainable.

Abstract

Powdery mildew is one of the most common and important fungal diseases and maycause huge economic losses to crop yields worldwide. During survey of powderymildews in 2011 and 2013, six samples of Ageratum conyzoides were collected fromdifferent regions in Indonesia, i.e. Bali, South Sumatera and West Java provinces.Anamorphic features revealed that the fungus belongs to the genus Podosphaera. Twosets of sequences of both ITS rRNA and 28S regions were obtained from the sixsamples. Phylogenetic analyses, including maximum parsimony (MP) and maximumlikelihood (ML) were executed using MEGA7. The strength of internal branches ofthe resulting trees were tested with bootstrap analysis. Tree scores, including treelength, CI, RI and RC were also calculated. The phylogenetic analysis confirmed thatthe fungus belongs to the genus Podosphaera, forming a clade with the sequencesfrom Podosphaera xanthii. This is the first report of powdery mildews on Ageratumconyzoides from Indonesia.

Abstract

Country of origin has been widely acknowledged as an important extrinsic cue influencing consumer purchase decisions; however, empirical evidence explaining its indirect mechanisms through marketing-related constructs in local brand contexts remains limited. This study aims to examine the effect of country of origin on purchase decisions, incorporating brand equity, service quality, and promotion as explanatory constructs within a structural model. A quantitative research design was employed using survey data collected from 384 university students in Medan, Indonesia, who had purchased and used Ventela shoes. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares. The results demonstrate that the country of origin has a significant positive effect on purchase decisions. In addition, the country of origin significantly influences brand equity, service quality, and promotion, which in turn positively affect purchase decisions. The structural model indicates that brand equity, service quality, and promotion play important mediating roles in strengthening the relationship between country of origin and purchase decisions. Overall, the model explains a substantial proportion of variance in purchase decisions, highlighting the robustness of the proposed framework. This study extends the country-of-origin literature by providing empirical evidence on the indirect pathways through which country-of-origin perceptions shape consumer behavior toward local footwear brands in emerging markets. In practice, the findings offer strategic insights for local brand managers on leveraging brand equity, service quality, and promotional activities to enhance consumer purchase decisions.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Tasikmalaya Regency Regional Budget (APBD), which is not yet optimal due to administrative-oriented evaluation, low public participation, minimal transparency, and limited fiscal independence. The study aims to develop a comprehensive evaluation model that integrates budget performance, public participation, digital transparency, and fiscal independence. A mixed methods sequential explanatory approach was used with the Tasikmalaya community, regional apparatus, and legislative bodies; a sample of 200 survey respondents (purposive) and 15 interview informants (snowball). Instruments included questionnaires, interview guides, and secondary APBD data; quantitative descriptive and qualitative thematic analyses were integrated via joint display. The results showed 60% public satisfaction, 30% participation, 30% local revenue (PAD), and 40% budget knowledge. The conclusion states that the multidimensional model improves APBD accountability with recommendations for strengthening e-budgeting and Musrenbang.

Abstract

The thrifting industry or the sale of used products that are suitable for use is growing in Indonesia, especially among the younger generation. However, most thrifting business actors still use manual marketing through social media, so market reach is limited, transaction recording is less systematic, and product data management is inefficient. This research aims to design and build a web-based thrift product marketing system on Muhhasecond as a solution to improve the effectiveness of promotions and sales processes. The developed system provides a structured product catalog, ordering features, and automatic management of sales data and reports for admins. The research method uses the Waterfall model, including needs analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. The expected result is a web-based application that is able to expand marketing reach, increase operational efficiency, and support the competitiveness of Muhhasecond's thrifting business in the face of digital developments.
