Abstract

This study examines the role of community engagement in enhancing brand equity through brand trust within the Barudak Kalunar community. The research investigates how participation, interaction, and emotional value influence community engagement, how engagement enhances brand trust, and the strategic implications of brand trust in strengthening brand equity. A quantitative approach was employed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Data were collected from 200 active members of the Barudak Kalunar community using structured questionnaires with Likert-scale measurements. The results indicate that participation and emotional value significantly influence community engagement, while interaction does not show a significant effect. Furthermore, community engagement significantly enhances brand trust, and brand trust plays a critical role in strengthening brand equity. These findings highlight that emotional attachment and active participation are more influential than communication frequency in building meaningful engagement and trust. The study provides strategic implications for community-based branding by emphasizing systematic trust-building mechanisms as a pathway toward sustainable brand equity development.

Abstract

Song lyrics play an important role in expressing complex emotional experiences that are often difficult to articulate through literal language. Although previous studies have examined metaphor and emotion in music, many focus on large corpora or musical structure, leaving a gap in close, lyric-centered analyses of how emotional meaning is constructed within individual songs. This study addresses that gap by examining how emotional experience is structured through conceptual metaphor in Radiohead’s song “Let Down.” Grounded in Conceptual Metaphor Theory, this research focuses on three interrelated frameworks: Emotion Is a Physical Force, The Object Event-Structure Metaphor, and Force Dynamics. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the lyrics are analyzed to identify recurring metaphorical patterns related to alienation, disappointment, and longing. The findings reveal that emotional suffering is consistently framed as embodied and overwhelming, while the lyrical subject is positioned as a passive entity subjected to repeated emotional events. Movement imagery further reflects constrained emotional effort, resulting in frustration rather than change. These results suggest that metaphor in song lyrics functions as a cognitive mechanism that enables listeners to experience emotion as embodied and enduring

Abstract

Proof is the heart of the criminal justice process, where expert witnesses play a crucial role in providing enlightenment to judges, especially in technical cases of document forgery. This research juridically analyzes the role of expert witnesses in proving the crime of document forgery by examining the Decision of the Banda Aceh District Court Number 398/Pid.B/2020/PN BNA. The research method used is normative juridical with a case study approach. The results show that the testimony of expert witnesses in the decision was determining evidence to uncover the mode of forgery, prove the element of the defendant's guilt, and ultimately form the judge's conviction. The existence of expert witnesses not only strengthens other evidence but also becomes an objective standard in assessing the authenticity of a document. It is concluded that the position of expert witnesses is instrumental and strategic in the evidence system for criminal cases of document forgery.

Abstract

The development of information technology has triggered an increase in transnational and increasingly complex cybercrimes. The cross-border nature of cybercrime poses serious challenges for law enforcement officials, particularly the Indonesian National Police (Polri), in the investigation, arrest, evidence-proving, and law enforcement processes. This study aims to analyze the legal challenges faced by the police in dealing with transnational cybercrime, including limited regulations, differences in jurisdiction between countries, difficulties in obtaining electronic evidence, limited technological and human resource capacity of the police, and limited international cooperation. Using a normative-juridical approach, this article finds that strengthening legal instruments, optimizing digital forensics, increasing investigator capacity, and intensifying international cooperation are strategic steps to increase the effectiveness of cybercrime countermeasures. In conclusion, the challenges faced by the police are multidimensional, requiring an adaptive, collaborative, and technology-based legal response. The normative-juridical approach is used to identify legal gaps based on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the ITE Law No. 19 of 2016, and police regulations, which often hinder the collection of evidence and the determination of suspects due to victims being abroad. Recommendations include strengthening international cooperation, human resource training, harmonization of cyber regulations, and collaboration with the private sector for effective law enforcement in the digital era.

Abstract

Overcrowding is a pressing issue facing correctional institutions in Indonesia, including Bagan Siapi-api Prison. This situation impacts the quality of guidance, security, health, and the rights of inmates. Restorative justice, an approach that emphasizes restitution and peaceful conflict resolution through agreements between perpetrators, victims, and the community, offers an alternative that can reduce the burden of conventional criminal punishment. This study aims to analyze the implementation of restorative justice as an effort to reduce overcrowding in Bagan Siapi-api Prison. The research method uses a normative and empirical juridical approach. The results show that restorative justice can play a significant role in reducing the number of inmates, especially for minor crimes, although its implementation is still hampered by regulations, resources, and the understanding of law enforcement officials. Key challenges include the need for a shift in the mindset of law enforcement officials, strengthening regulations, providing trained facilitators, and ensuring a voluntary approach for victims. By addressing these challenges through multi-stakeholder commitment, restorative justice can be a transformative solution that not only eases the burden on prisons but also creates more meaningful justice and strengthens social cohesion in Rokan Hilir Regency.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of utilizing household wastewater as asubstrate for biogas production through anaerobic fermentation at ahousehold scale in Tobarakka Village, Pitumpanua District. The objectives ofthe study were to assess the ability of various types of wastewater (ricewashing, vegetable waste, and a mixture) to produce biogas and to modeltheir production kinetics. Samples were processed in a simple biodigester(household-scale plastic bottles) and gas production was measuredperiodically using the air displacement method; data were analyzed statistically (ANOVA / LMM) and modeled with the Modified Gompertzequation. The results showed that biogas production per interval decreasedover time but the 40-day accumulation was highest in the mixture treatment(450 mL), followed by rice washing (355 mL) and vegetable waste (135 mL).Changes in pH and mesophilic conditions (≈30–35 °C) were noted to supportmethanogenic activity even though the final pH was close to the loweroptimal limit. The ANOVA/LMM test indicated that the effect of time washighly significant (p < 0.001), the effect of treatment was approaching significance (p ≈ 0.050), and the Treatment×Time interaction was significant(p = 0.028), suggesting different production patterns between substrates overtime.Modified Gompertz modeling confirmed the mixture as the substrate withthe highest cumulative potential and production rate. Limitations include thesmall number of replicates (n = 3) and the lack of gas composition analysis(%CH₄, %CO₂, H₂S) and VFA/COD parameters; therefore, additionalreplicates, gas composition measurements, and mixing ratio optimization arerecommended for further research. Practically, the utilization of household liquid waste, especially in combination, has the potential to be a householdscalerenewableenergysolutionwhilereducingenvironmentalpollution.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the retail coffee industry in Indonesia has intensified competition, requiring firms to understand the determinants of customer loyalty beyond physical store design. This study aims to examine the effect of store atmosphere on customer loyalty, with customer satisfaction and purchase intention as mediating variables, in a drive-thru coffee retail context in Medan. The population comprised all customers who made purchases at the Kopi Kenangan Gatot Subroto outlet in Medan, and data were gathered utilizing a non-probability purposive sampling method. A total of 389 valid responses were obtained from customers who had made at least one purchase and were willing to complete the questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that customer satisfaction has a strong and significant direct effect on customer loyalty (β = 0.746, p < 0.001), and purchase intention indirectly influences loyalty through satisfaction. However, store atmosphere does not significantly affect satisfaction, purchase intention, or loyalty. The model explains 56.2% of the variance in customer loyalty, indicating moderate predictive power. These findings emphasize that post-consumption evaluation and experiential satisfaction play a more critical role than atmospheric cues in building loyalty in the modern coffee retail industry.

Abstract

Judicial oversight constitutes a crucial instrument in preserving the integrity, accountability, and public trust in the judiciary. Within the Indonesian constitutional framework, judicial oversight is exercised by two principal institutions: the Judicial Commission as the external supervisory body focusing on the honor, dignity, and conduct of judges, and the Supreme Court as the internal supervisory body emphasizing institutional discipline as well as technical and administrative oversight. In practice, however, the relationship between these institutions has not functioned in a fully synergistic manner. The main problems include overlapping perceptions of authority, weak follow-up on the Judicial Commission’s recommendations, institutional resistance, limited resources, and suboptimal public participation. This study aims to analyze the construction of authority of the Judicial Commission and the Supreme Court in judicial oversight, identify factors inhibiting effective supervision, and formulate an institutional synergy model that remains respectful of judicial independence. This research employs normative legal research using statutory and conceptual approaches. The study finds that the principal issue lies not in the existence of dual supervisory institutions, but in the absence of an operational and procedurally binding coordination design supported by an open institutional culture.
