Abstract

Geographically, Indonesia has been subjected towards various climate change related phenomena. This research aim at evaluation of participatory implementation towards climate change related policy which has been set in Indonesia. The research method derived from qualitative framework developed by UNESCO. The research took RAN-API or National Action Plan upon Climate Change Adaptation which has been established since 2013. The document has been integrated within National Medium Term Plan launched at 2015 up to 2019. The research revealed that participation has been inclusive to many stakeholder involved within climate change adaptation program. Furthermore, encouragement needs to be carried out at all level especially in urbanized area. Local to national government has pivotal role to introduce many activities engaged to climate change adaptation. At different array, the research also revealed that many participation has been initiated independently by non-government organization as well as local stakeholder which need to be documented in order to ensure its merits.

Abstract

Upper Citarik River is the Inter Mountainous Valley of Volcanic Denudational Landform in the eastern part of Bandung basin, West-Java. The research area compounds of several degraded small catchments with very low water flow in dry season. This research aims  to understand the implications of morphometric characteristics (Slope, Cr, Dd, Hi) on average river flow discharge of small sub-catchments of Upper Citarik River. Discharge data collected based on measurements, while catchments morphometric identified and analyzed based on topographic map using GIS techniques.  Correlation graphs were used to understand the relationship among the morphometric parameter and the average river flow discharges. The result were as follow  the steeper the slope, the more elongated the shape of catchment, the more distant was the river density,  meaning the more younger the erosion cycle of the landform.  The younger the erosion cycle of the landform, the smaller was the average river discharge per areal unit of catchments.

Abstract

This study aims at explaining the behavior of students of the biology-Jakarta State University study program on environmental preservation in the perspective of ecoliteracy and critical thinking skills. Ecoliteracy is an understanding and behavior or the action of a person towards the environment. The results of the study show that there is no effect of the interaction between ecoliteracy and thinking Skills. In addition, there is also no interaction between ecoliteracy and gender. This study supports previous relevant research and provides new empirical information that ecoliteracy and critical thinking skills are the causes of someone contributing to preserving the environment. However, the influence of ecoliteracy interactions and critical thinking skills is not significant. In addition, the interaction in the ecoliteracy and gender perspective needs to be ignored because both of them make the same contribution. Therefore, the application of ecoliteracy must begin early. The application of ecoliteracy can also be integrated into the media that are currently developing rapidly. So that at the university level, the concept of ecoliteracy has emerged in a more creative and innovative form by initiating new innovations in the more advanced environment.

Abstract

Flooding has been natural disaster in Indonesia and elsewhere. This research is designed to create scenarios and designs conservation to mitigate flooding disaster.  Data potential ,vulnerability, and duplicated river covering 0.25% of the targeted flooding area were collected and analysed. Five disain of conservation, natural river as control, river normalization, normalization with gabion stone, river straigtening, and straigtening with gabion stone, are proposed, and main targeted responses of these five scenarios are river current velocity. Effectiveness scenarios were analysed using Anova and Tukey test. The results showed that alignment with gabion stone was the most effective scenario for flooding mitigation since this was the most effective in increasing river current velocity. This could prevent riverbank occurrence of avalanche, accelerate river current, overcome flooding, and prevent future flooding. Other scenarios likes dead clicth ended-hallway, canalization, and riparian reclamation are also possible implemented.

Abstract

A geological study was conducted in Kulon Progo and its surrounding areas (Kulon Progo and Purworejo Regency). It focused on regional geology, tectonic configuration, geodynamics and magmatism, lithology and volcanology, and mineralization. Although there has been considerable research of mineralization in the area—particularly in Kokap (Kulon Progo Regency), Bagelen (Purworejo Regency) and Gupit (Magelang Regency), the potential of precious metals has not been determined due to data limitations. The study combined qualitative and semi-quantitative methods using a desktop geologic analysis, which facilitates lithology interpretation, volcanic boundary system, and lineament density assessment. The geology of the region is composed of an ancient volcanic complex of the Old Andesite Formation formed during the Late Oligocene-Miocene, and the mineralization in Kokap, Bagelen, and Gupit is epithermal. Based on the analysis results, the mineralization occurs in the central to proximal facies of the paleo-volcano, and the system ranges from 2.2 to 3.8 km in diameter. The manual analysis of the lineament density showed that the main direction of the lineaments was SE-NW with a maximum density of 2025.9 m/km2 and an anomaly limit of >1800 m/km2. In the combined semi-automatic analysis, the maximum density was 8.3 km/km2. The target area of mineralization included four anomalous areas, namely Bagelen-Kokap, Salaman, Kaligesing, and Loano, associated with the central and proximal facies of each small paleo-volcano.

Abstract

 One of the ways to eliminate poverty is through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) that is often promoted as central to reviving and sustaining regional communities. In the context of Malaysia, however, the level of communication in urban and rural areas has seen a gap in terms of access to ICTs. Though various initiatives are taken to close the digital gaps, more efforts are needed. This paper intends to explore the extent to which ICTs in rural areas of northern Peninsular Malaysia are able to raise the socio-economic development of the communities. Using questionnaires and in-depth interviews, emphasis is given to analyze the role of ICTs in poverty reduction processes upholding regional developments. It has been observed that solving common causes for the communities’ access and socio-economic growth needs strategic implementation of policies at the central core and pragmatic implementation of actions at the grass root level.

Abstract

Total suspended solid (TSS) is one of the parameters that uses for detecting health in aquatic environments. The distribution of the TSS value in the water body will affect the aquatic ecosystem. In this research will be analyzed the distribution value of TSS during 5 year period by utilizing Landsat 8 satellite image data, where the developed method is extraction of reflectance value from Landsat 8 satellite image for 5 years using SEADASS and then compiled the TSS algorithm with reflectance value that already obtained on the existing conditions, the algorithm obtained is estimated over 5 years back to get a picture of change and distribution of TSS value. As a case study , the coast of Ujung Pangkah Gresik was taken which has the mouth of the river Bengawan Solo. The results obtained from this study illustrate the decrease of TSS value during that time period, so that with this decrease can be concluded that at the point of field coordinate, TSS value was decreasing and causing the erosion in the environment.

Abstract

Visual analysis and transformation of vegetation indices have been widely applied in studies of vegetation density using remote sensing data. However, visual analysis is time intensive compared to index transformation. On the other hand, the index transformation from medium resolution imagery is not fully representative for urban vegetation studies. Meanwhile, the spectral range of high-resolution imagery is usually limited to visible wavelengths for the image transformation. Worldview-2 imagery provides a new breakthrough with a high spatial resolution and supports various spectral resolutions. This study aims to explore the spectral value of the Worldview-2 image index for estimation of vegetation density. Normalized indices were made for 56 band combinations and Otsu thresholding was implemented for the threshold selection to separate vegetation and non-vegetation areas. This thresholding was done by minimizing classes’ variances between two groups of pixels which are distinguished by system or classification. The image binarization process was performed to differentiate between vegetation and non-vegetation. For the accuracy testing, a total of 250 samples was produced by a stratified random sampling method. Our results show that the combination of indices from red channel, red-edge, NIR-1, and NIR-2 provides the best accuracy for semantic accuracy. Vegetation area extracted from the index was then compared with the results of the visual analysis. Although the index results in area difference of 2.32 m2 compared to visual analysis, the combination of NIR-2 and red bands can give an accuracy of 96.29 %.

Abstract

Important factors that needs to be understood in the management of fishery resources is fish habitat. Fish habitat is an ideal water conditions of a fish species to spawn, breed, feed and grow into adults. Distribution of fish habitat can be approach using variety method, such Habitat Suitability/Species Distribution Modeling. Remote sensing analysis is effective method in providing daily oceanography information. Modis is Remote sensing imagery can be used for modeling Rastrelliger brachysoma fish habitat. Date acquired MODIS image at 28 March 2015, depend on existing field data. The results indicate that, the highest probability of Rastrelliger brachysoma fish habitat location in WPP 711 are in the middle waters of the WPP border between the deep sea of Indonesia and the Pacific Ocean. The lowest probability value for habitat of Rastrelliger brachysoma fish is in the southern shallow waters of Bangka Belitung island which is around 0.1-0.25.

Abstract

Natural resource abundance in South Kalimantan has been expected to optimize public services. The SDGs accomplishment requires an equitable implementation in economic, social, and environmental aspects. This research aimed to (1) discover the human and economic condition and (2) determine the development direction of South Kalimantan Province. It was based on institutional-secondary data that were processed in GIS software and analyzed with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed that: (1) the human resources in South Kalimantan could accelerate regional development—however, some of the qualitative indicators are associated with poverty complicated by gender disparity—, while the land resources became increasingly limited due to intensive agricultural practices that caused the rise of industrial and trade sectors; and (2) the development of South Kalimantan should improve people’s perception of gender-related topics, recruit more medical workers, and reduce pressures on agricultural land by switching into stable industrial activities.
