Abstract

This article explores the Concept of The Rebel as expressed by the philosopher and renowned writer, Albert Camus. Through a critical analysis of Camus' works, this thesis aims to understand the essence and implications of the rebel man in the context of modern life. The research methodology employed includes textual analysis and philosophical examination of Camus' writings related to this concept. The findings of this thesis indicate that, according to Camus, the rebel man is an individual who actively opposes injustice, absurdity, and oppressive authority in life. Rebellion is not an act of violence or destruction, but a moral and existential stance that strives for freedom and human dignity. In Camus' works, the rebel is regarded as a symbol of authentic existence, rejecting blind conformity to social norms that stifle individual freedom. Through the development of this concept, the thesis also provides a deeper understanding of the importance of rebellion in social and political contexts. Camus' concept of the rebel man leads us to raise critical questions about justice, freedom, solidarity, and human responsibility as individuals in this complex society. In modern life, this understanding presents relevant and profound philosophical challenges and reflections.

Abstract

The emergence of postmodernism provides a signal for the modern era regarding the emergence of criticism and constructive and destructive efforts towards thinking that developed in the modern era. Of course, the criticism that arises is part of the concerns of philosophers according to their own paradigm. Jean Francois Lyotard was a poststructuralist philosopher, but he later became better known as one of the important thinkers of the postmodernist philosophical school who was famous for his idea of rejecting the Grand Narrative, namely a big story that has a legitimating function because it is unifying, universal and total. Rejection of grand narratives, according to Lyotard, means rejection of unification, universality and totality. In the view of Lyotard, this is one of the most prominent distinguishing characteristics between the philosophy of postmodernism and the philosophy of modernism. Postmodernism is a reform theory that understands belief in relative truth, an understanding that rejects assumptions about reality, truth, and universalist thinking about knowledge that continues to expand about the human world.

Abstract

This article intends to explain on Francis Fukuyama’s idea of the politics of identity Fukuyama suggests that identity politics can threaten the stability of liberal democracy by dividing society based on group identities such as ethnicity, race, religion, or gender. In explaining the phenomenon of identity politics, Fukuyama highlights the demand for recognition based on the concept of thymos, a psychological aspect of human beings seeking acknowledgment. According to him, individuals and groups have a fundamental need for their dignity and identity to be recognized. When these demands are unmet, feelings of dissatisfaction and injustice can arise, leading to social and political conflict. He emphasizes the importance of moral values such as freedom, justice, and respect for individual rights. He contends that liberal democracy must be supported by a strong moral foundation to endure and thrive amidst modern challenges. Francis Fukuyama's thoughts provide valuable insights into how to sustain and strengthen liberal democracy in the contemporary era. By understanding the impact of identity politics and the demand for recognition, as well as reaffirming a commitment to fundamental moral values, societies can maintain stability and justice within the liberal democratic system.

Mencius placed true friendship as an important element in human life. He emphasized the importance of friendship based on moral principles and goodness. In his view, friendship is not based solely on personal gain or interest, but rather on sincerity, mutual respect, and good intentions to help each other achieve virtue.  According to Mencius, humility, mutual respect, supporting each other in the pursuit of virtue, and conformity of values between individuals are the main foundations of true friendship. True friendship is seen as an important element for the formation of strong moral character, the creation of harmony in society, and personal development towards wisdom and moral perfection. Furthermore, Mencius also emphasized that true friendship is not just a reciprocal relationship, but is also a means for individuals to remind each other and improve themselves in pursuing virtue. This research provides valuable insight into the concept of friendship in the Confucian tradition which is still relevant in the current era. True friendship also reflects the realization of a sensitive and reflective heart as taught by Mencius.

Abstract

In his humanism Fromm saw an unconscious movement of humans towards dehumanization due to technology. Humans still live in the old view that technology is human progress and discovery to help humans themselves. For Fromm, with this kind of view, humans will instead be enslaved by technology of their own creation, for example the replacement of humans in many jobs due to the presence of production machines. Fromm then offers a humanization process with humanist planning for technology, increasing ratios and awareness so that humans are able to understand and make conscious choices. Usingl description and analytical methods, this article tries to understand dehumanization as well as drawing inspiration and providing a critical evaluation of Fromm's thinking.
