Abstract

Abstract: The digital transformation driven by advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has fundamentally changed the way the financial sector operates. This study aims to analyze the application of AI and digital technologies in the financial industry, including banking, fintech, and insurtech, as well as to identify the benefits, challenges, and future prospects. Using a qualitative approach based on literature review, the findings reveal that AI significantly contributes to operational efficiency, service personalization, and the expansion of financial inclusion. The implementation of technologies such as machine learning, NLP-based chatbots, robo-advisory platforms, and user data processing in insurance has enhanced the speed, accuracy, and reach of financial services. Nevertheless, major challenges remain, particularly in terms of data privacy protection, algorithmic bias, and cybersecurity. This study recommends strengthening regulations and developing adaptive security systems to ensure that financial digitalization proceeds in a safe, fair, and sustainable manner.

Abstract

In Indonesia, both conventional and Islamic banks continue to adopt conventional performance measurement approaches, which often fall short of aligning with Islamic sharia principles. Consequently, there is a pressing need for performance evaluation models specifically designed to reflect sharia principles in assessing Islamic banks. This study aims to evaluate and analyze the performance of Bank Muamalat Indonesia (BMI) over the period from 2020 to 2023 using the Maqashid Shariah Index (MSI) as developed from the perspective of Abdul Majid Najjar. Employing a single case study approach, the research is based on content analysis of secondary data obtained from BMI’s official website. The analysis reveals a decline in BMI's performance scores in 2021 and 2022 compared to its performance level in 2020. However, the performance score showed an upward trend in 2023. The decline in BMI’s performance in 2021 was primarily driven by a decrease in the Real Sector Investment Ratio. In 2022, the continued downturn in performance was influenced by a reduction in the Ecological Ratio. Conversely, the improvement in BMI’s performance in 2023 was largely attributed to an increase in the Ecological Ratio.

Banks are financial intermediary institutions, therefore in a country a bank is needed that can carry out its functions properly and operate optimally. This study aims to determine the effect of capital, interest rates and inflation on bank cost efficiency in banks going public in 2021-2024. The data used is secondary data obtained through the idx.co.id website. The data analysis method used is multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that simultaneously capital, interest rates, and inflation have a significant effect on cost efficiency, partially capital and interest rates have a negative and insignificant effect on cost efficiency, partially inflation has an insignificant effect on cost efficiency. The greater the capital owned by a bank, the greater the size of the bank. Large bank capital can be channeled to third parties in the form of financing, or other investments that provide profits for the bank. if the bank's profits are large, then the bank's cost efficiency will also increase.

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 is a form of industrial transformation characterised by the emergence of digital and physical technology integration, which has begun to change the way of production, distribution, and consumption. The use of technology in various aspects of life, including education and the economy, encourages product innovation to keep pace with the times. The issues in this study are 1) how the theoretical concepts of Islamic Banking and Islamic Education Management should be reconstructed/adapted in the era of Industry 4.0, 2) how Islamic Banking and Islamic Education Management (MPI) are implemented in educational institutions in facing the challenges of the Industry 4.0 era, and 3) how a synergy strategy can be built between Islamic Banking and MPI institutions in producing competent human resources in the 4.0 era. This research applies a descriptive qualitative method with a focus on literature research. The concept of ideal Islamic banking and Islamic education governance in the Industry 4.0 era needs to be harmonised. The Islamic banking sector acts as a provider of funds for education financing using qardh or ijarah, while ideal Islamic education acts as a producer of Sharia 5.0 Human Resources. The implementation of Islamic banking and Islamic education management has its own challenges. These challenges include the emergence of a digital divide in society, ever-changing government regulations, and the application of Islamic values in accordance with the conditions and demands of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. The development of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution era requires synergy between Sharia Banking and Islamic Education Management, where Sharia Banking provides capital for infrastructure development and Islamic Education provides the human resources to implement the existing system in society.

Abstract

This study examines portfolio diversification through gold installment products at PT BPRS Lantabur Tebuireng as a strategy for mitigating Non-Performing Financing (NPF) risk. Gold installment products use murabahah contracts, which allow customers to gradually acquire gold through a fixed installment system. The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of gold installment products as a financing diversification instrument and identify their role in mitigating NPF risk at PT BPRS Lantabur Tebuireng. The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation studies. The results show that the gold installment product contributes significantly to NPF risk mitigation through collateral in the form of gold, which has stable value and high liquidity. Portfolio diversification through this product reduces the risk of financing concentration, which was previously dominated by conventional murabahah financing in the consumptive and productive sectors. The implementation of murabahah contracts in gold installment products is in accordance with sharia principles based on the DSN-MUI fatwa with price transparency and margin certainty. The study recommends optimizing gold installment products as a risk management strategy, strengthening the financing monitoring system, and developing similar products to strengthen the resilience of BPRS financing portfolios.

Abstract

Islamic banking in Pakistan has unique characteristics compared to other Muslim countries, as from its early development it was directed toward the Islamization of the entire national banking system. This study aims to analyze the development of Islamic banking products and services in Pakistan as well as the dynamics accompanying it. The research method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review, utilizing secondary data obtained from books, scholarly articles, and relevant reports. The results indicate that Islamic banking in Pakistan has experienced significant growth, as reflected in the diversification of financing products such as murabahah, mudarabah, musharakah, and ijarah, as well as savings and investment services and Islamic financial instruments such as sukuk. In addition to functioning as commercial financial institutions, Islamic banks in Pakistan also perform a social role through the management of zakat, waqf, and Islamic social funds. Regulatory support from the State Bank of Pakistan has further contributed to the growth of this sector. Nevertheless, this development continues to face challenges, including limited Islamic financial literacy, the need for product innovation, and competition with conventional banks. This study is expected to contribute to the enrichment of academic literature on Islamic banking and to serve as a reference for the sustainable development of the Islamic banking industry in Pakistan.
