Abstract

Migration with various motifs in it is a phenomenon that has long been known in the Bible. The migration of the Terah family, Jacob's family, Naomi's family, and even Joseph's small family are examples of migration written in the scriptures. Most of Paul and Peter's letters are also addressed to diaspora Christians. In fact, Christians are foreigners on this earth. The dynamics experienced by them as migrants are also experienced by migrants in the modern era. The migration of people from conflict countries to the European Union in 2015 is interesting to study with the problems in it. Migrants experience social pressures and cultural clashes even though the European Union is also subject to UN Conventions and the EU Declaration of Human Rights. Migration carried out can be in the form of skilled migration, refugees, or asylum seekers. The cultural clash between local residents and immigrants in Europe is a test of the value of European justice and freedom. The discourse that occurs tries to present the problem more clearly and objectively.

Abstract

Transformational conversion has been essential to the cross-cultural diffusion of Christianity. An introduction to conversion and diffusion in the New Testament reveals relevant biblical themes to ensure an intelligible communication of conversion from an evangelical viewpoint. Conversion requires a two-fold movement of repentance from sin and faith in Jesus Christ. As a supernatural act of God, people respond to the verbal transmission of the gospel with a personal decision of faith. The biblical data supplies that conversions may involve deliberation processes and cannot be separated from a life-long commitment to Christian discipleship. A multi-case study of three church plants in Germany confirms that clear invitations into discipleship are necessary for facilitating transformational conversion. Each church presented conversion intelligibly, provided decision-making opportunities, affirmed the point and process of conversion, and connected conversion with discipleship.

Abstract

Culture is a term that is commonly used to describe the actual world that people live in. In the existence of the church, it has had to struggle to interact with culture. Jesus who lived in the Hebrew culture became familiar with this culture and also interacted with other cultures. How Jesus uses culture to proclaim His message needs to be observed. Whether Christ opposes culture or uses culture is interesting to consider. Out of this, there are approaches that can be applied as the church relates to culture. In the end, the church can position itself so that it can affect the culture with God’s Kingdom or have God’s Kingdom diluted in the society as the church is affected by the world.

Abstract

Although Christianity has spread and flourished throughout the African continent, discipleship efforts at times have not shown converts how to grow in certain aspects of their newfound faith, which has resulted in syncretism. At the root of the problem is the secular-adjacent philosophical orientation of many missionaries who initially sought to spread Western Christian civilization among animist cultures and failed to address common questions new believers expressed. This article investigates the secularization of Western Christianity and the resulting ontological shifts in worldview. It then analyzes the disparities in enchanted-disenchanted perspectives, the transcendent-immanent dissimilarities in kingdom views, the sacred-secular divisions, and the supernatural-political variances in power-focus between animists and Western missionaries. This examination assists in defining many of the differences between African and secular-adjacent Western Christians and how syncretism was not only possible but became seemingly unavoidable to Africans due to the gaping deficiencies in practical instruction.

Abstract

There is a misconception that there is disagreement between science and Scriptures. Science is based on facts, not just opinions or preferences. To understand science, we need to consider how science started. It began with people who knew God and who believed that God is a God of order and designs. They believed that the universe He designed would reflect that order and that by studying nature, they could learn more about God and His attributes. Science only deals with nature and not the supernatural or spiritual. When conducting research, scientist use the scientific method to gather measurable empirical evidence in experiments related to a hypothesis, the results of which aim to support or contradict the theory. The basic focus of science is knowledge. It is critical to realize that scientists have not learned everything and that as we gain new knowledge, they must change what they once believed to be true. One example is the understanding of the interior of the Earth. Using earthquake data, scientists originally thought that the Earth had a crust, a mantle, and a solid core. Using earthquake data, they realized that there was also a liquid inner core. More data revealed that the mantle may have different layers. Even with all their tools, scientists have not been able to determine the exact nature of the core, the mantle, or even the crust. Although, we do not yet understand the structure of the core and mantle, scientists have realized that they are essential for life to exist on earth. As scientists have learned more about the mass of the universe and the parameters that control the natural laws of the universe, they have realized that the universe and this planet have been specifically designed to support life here. This has brought many scientists to realize that the universe was specially designed by a Great Engineer.

Abstract

The state of human sinfulness is a topic that will always arise curiosity to be discussed, especially in the millennial or 1000 years timeframe. The end-time discussion about the sinful status of humans certainly cannot be separated from the concept of how humans, in this case believers, can sin. This concept begins with the fall of man in the garden of Eden and continues to the new concept of life presented in the Letter of James. Understanding the trials of both peirasmos and dokimos will help answer the status of human beings in the age of 1000 years of peace with Christ.

Abstract

Hebrews 11 has been one of the most beloved passages of Scripture for centuries. It has been widely understood as the definition of faith, which is the basis of all things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. However, this passage is not a complete discussion of what is meant by faith in Hebrews, but rather a characteristic of some key aspects of the faith of the Old Testament witnesses. Although the sentence structure fits a contemporary definition very well, modern interpreters have become hesitant to regard the verse as a formal definition of faith. The analysis of the words ὑπόστασις (substance) and ἔλεγχος (conviction) which leads to the recognition of the objective character inherent in these two words will determine the interpretation of Hebrews 11:1. Biblical faith is concerned with a firm belief in God's greater reality and vital assurance of future and unseen things, which will be revealed in God's appointed time.

Abstract

One of the messages conveyed in Jude's epistle is a warning to believers in Asia Minor about the false teachers who infiltrated the church at that time. This is a very serious problem because of the various effects caused by false teachers. Jude gave advice that was delivered in earnest to believers as written in Jude 1:3 “so that you keep fighting to maintain the faith that has been conveyed to the saints.” This condition is still relevant to the current condition of the church, where false teachers infiltrate the church and cause serious problems for the congregation. Therefore, it is significant to identify the characteristics of false teachers, so that God's people are alert and have the right understanding not to be affected by false teachings. It is also important to apply the gnostic understanding approach and compares it with the characteristics of the false teachers described in the epistle of Jude.

Abstract

Elders, shepherd, overseer, bishop, pastor, deacon are terms in the world of Christian leadership. In the context of 1 Peter, the terms elders, shepherds, and overseers refer to the same person. Peter is so serious about giving direction and guidance to them on how theyN should carry out their pastoral duties and responsibilities. At that time the social situation faced by Christians in the Roman empire was very uncomfortable because they experienced persecution because of their faith and did not want to submit to worship Caesar as God. They stand firm in their faith that only Jesus is the true God and only Jesus they worship. In such situation, the Christian congregations are strengthened and encouraged by Peter to remain firm in holding on to the faith and keep practicing ways of life that are right and in accordance with the teachings of Christ as their great shepherd in all aspects of their lives, including in the internal territory of the congregation. Peter gave instructions and qualities that elders should have in their shepherding as well as those qualities that he saw and imitated in the person of Jesus himself during his life with Jesus. He wants every elder in the Christian community who receives his letter to shepherd people with the qualities and character that Jesus did as the Great Shepherd of all believers.
