Abstract

Higher education institutions play a crucial role not only in producing research but also in ensuring that research outcomes can be effectively utilized by society. In the field of biology, innovations such as functional foods, biofertilizers, and natural pharmaceutical raw materials are frequently developed, yet they often remain at the publication or laboratory prototype stage due to insufficient support in non-technical aspects, including business strategy, marketing, and intellectual property rights protection. Entrepreneurial lecturers have a strategic role in overcoming these barriers by helping researchers and students understand market potential, design appropriate business models, and facilitate collaborations with industry or investors. This study employs a literature review method to examine the role of entrepreneurial lecturers in promoting the commercialization of biological research products. The findings indicate that lecturers act as innovation facilitators, curriculum integrators for entrepreneurship, and network enhancers, thereby accelerating the transformation of research into commercial products. Identified challenges include limited business knowledge among researchers, minimal regulatory support for intellectual property rights, and restricted access to funding and industry partners. Recommended strengthening strategies include interdisciplinary collaboration, research-based business management training, and the establishment of innovation centers within universities. With a structured innovation ecosystem, biological research outcomes have greater potential for commercialization, generating economic value and tangible socio-economic impact.

Abstract

High seed vigor is one of the determining factors for the successful early growth of rice (Oryza sativa L.). However, drought stress often becomes a constraint in rice cultivation because it can inhibit water imbibition, reduce germination, growth synchrony and decrease the vigor index. Therefore, efforts are needed to maintain seed vigor in water limited conditions, one of which is through the application of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) from goat manure. This study aims to examine the effect of the application of liquid organic fertilizer from goat manure on rice seed vigor under drought conditions. The parameters observed were germination power, growth synchrony and vigor index. The results showed that the application of 50 mL and 100 mL of goat manure LOF had a significant effect on germination power, growth synchrony and vigor index. This is because the organic acid content from the fermentation of LOF is able to dissolve and wash out some of the dissolved salts. Goat manure organic fertilizer (LOF) contains macronutrients (N, P, K), micronutrients and fermented organic compounds that support seed metabolism, stimulate root growth and improve plant adaptation to drought conditions. Abstract

The livestock sector plays a strategic role in rural economic development by providing animal-based food, employment, and increased household income. However, unsustainably managed livestock activities can negatively impact the environment and community well-being. This study aims to review the impacts of livestock activities on rural environmental quality from the perspective of spatial and urban planning and to provide recommendations for sustainable management strategies. The study was conducted through a literature review, including national and international journal articles, proceedings, research reports, and spatial planning documents. Analysis was carried out using content analysis, narrative synthesis, and literature matrices to understand the relationships between livestock activities and their impacts on water, air, soil, and socio-environmental aspects. The review shows that livestock contributes to water pollution (animal waste), air pollution (methane, ammonia, nitrous oxide emissions), soil degradation (excess manure accumulation and increased acidity), and socio-environmental disturbances (odor, noise, zoonotic disease risk). Poor waste management reduces soil quality and land productivity. The study emphasizes the importance of integrating livestock management with spatial planning, including zoning, waste management using simple technologies such as biogas and compost, and integrated farming systems. These strategies can minimize environmental impacts, maintain land productivity, and improve community welfare. This approach highlights the need for a balance between economic, ecological, and social aspects to support sustainable rural development.
