Abstract

This article is about Anthropology of Post Development: A dimension of Applied Anthropology. Changes in the system include the changes in content, organization, premise and value. Exploring the processes of change is a challenge to anthropology. Applied anthropology is used in the study of cultural changes. The contribution given starts from the planning until the program is over, for example, anthropologists work together with health specialists in the frame of change in the sub-culture of the recipients. Anthropology works on the whole system using holistic approach. For example, the discussion of religion cannot be separated from mythology and folklore, magi, philosophy, family, economic life, arts, belief about death, disease and curing. Another perspective of anthropology is cultural relativism where cultural and lifestyle differences can only be understood, for example in Indonesia, in the interface between midwife with modern new health elements. The popular method for data collection in anthropology is participant observation. This method is appropriate for the understanding of KAP (knowledge, attitude and practice) or cultural behavior.

Abstract

A successful person is always related with wealth and life satisfaction. Meanwhile the term successful person in different ethnic groups has different meaning and interpretation. The concept about dadi wong (being successful person) exists in Javanese culture which is always mentioned to describe the success of person in his or her life. The article will discuss this .The research was conducted in Yogyakarta on 1995 using a qualitative research method with in-depth interview. The research was held among selected (20) Javanese women aged 17-68 years, which had different education and socio economic status. Dadi wong requires economic, religious, moral, psychological and physical aspects. Other aspects includes gender ideology and culture. According to the Javanese concept dadi wong means merely economic aspect. The ideal concept of Dadi wong should be combined with economic (economic independence, income), culture (socio-status, marriage, family life, education, good in social relation, meaningful to other), morality/religion (religiosity, good moral) and psychology (independence, happiness).

Abstract

This article will explain the exploitative practices of Pulau Sembilan’s fishermen and their environmental consequences in internal and external contexts. Case materials utilized for the explanation are the data about dominant fishing such as collecting teripang, catching fish by dinamite and voison gained by field research. The exploitative practices are characterized by overexploitation and coral reef degradation. Contextual explanation uses the application and development of action and consequence approach with contextual mode of explanation in ecological anthropology. By applying these approach and mode, the internal/local socio-culture and the external forces (export-market situation, adoption of technological innovation, and government policies) are found as contributing to the various exploitative patterns of behaviour and their environmental consequences.
