Abstract

This study aims to understand the entrepreneurship practices of Generation Z students as part of the broader social dynamics they navigate in their everyday lives. Entrepreneurial activities carried out by students are not solely driven by economic motives, but are also closely linked to life experiences, personal relationships, and the search for identity amid academic and social pressures. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilising in-depth interviews with five student entrepreneurs. The findings reveal that students' motivation to engage in entrepreneurship arises from a combination of financial needs, values instilled through family upbringing, and a desire for independence and control over their lives. Beyond being an economic strategy, entrepreneurship serves as a means for students to negotiate roles, adjust to the rhythms of daily life, and present a particular self-image within their social environment. The study reveals that student entrepreneurship is a multifaceted practice deeply rooted in the social, cultural, and emotional contexts in which students develop and live. Based on these findings, it is recommended that university-based entrepreneurship programs be more responsive to the lived experiences and needs of students, rather than focusing solely on technical skills.

Abstract

This study examines the key issue of the role and function of adok as an honorary title in the Lampung Pepadun community, which is closely linked to piil pesenggiri cultural values, customary norms, and the community’s social structure. The aim of this research is to analyze how adok functions in maintaining social order, strengthening cultural identity, and preserving customary continuity through the lens of structural functionalism theory developed by Talcott Parsons. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with customary leaders and community members, participatory observation during the Begawi Cakak Pepadun ceremony, and documentation of traditional archives and activity photos. The findings reveal that adok has a structural function as a regulator of social stratification, a reinforcer of cultural identity, and a medium for social integration. Within Parsons’ AGIL framework, adok contributes to social adaptation, goal attainment, integration, and the maintenance of cultural patterns. The implications of this study emphasize that adok is not merely a symbolic title but an essential instrument in sustaining social stability and preserving local culture in the face of modernization.

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious public health issue in Indonesia, including in the border area of Sambas District, West Kalimantan. Sebayan Village records one of the highest stunting prevalence rates, reaching 36.61%. This study aims to identify socio-cultural factors contributing to stunting, with a focus on parenting patterns, economic conditions, local myths, and traditional feeding practices for infants and toddlers. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method through in-depth interviews with key informants, including village officials, local health workers, sub-district authorities, and representatives from the community health centre (Puskesmas). The analysis takes into account the social, cultural, and economic contexts of the local community. The findings reveal four primary factors contributing to stunting in Sebayan Village. First, suboptimal parenting practices, where children are often left in the care of grandparents, result in the lack of exclusive breastfeeding. Second, local myths such as prohibitions against children eating water spinach and the consumption of black pepper herbal drinks after childbirth negatively affect child nutrition. Third, traditional feeding practices, such as giving bubur koleh (a local porridge), often increase health risks due to their unhygienic nature. Fourth, economic limitations restrict families’ ability to provide balanced nutrition.

Abstract

The production of popa among the Dayak Siang is an important space for women to preserve and transmit their culture through their knowledge of traditional alcohol production. Using a qualitative approach and anthropological perspective, this study aims to examine in depth the role of Dayak Siang women in the practice of popa production and their contribution to the preservation of local culture. The data in this study were obtained through participant observation and in-depth interviews, which were then analysed using Spradley's data analysis model. This study shows that Dayak Siang women not only play a role as domestic workers but also as innovators of tradition, preserving recipes passed down from generation to generation in the tradition of popa making. Through the kitchen as a multifunctional production space, women integrate household responsibilities, cultural values, and economic activities simultaneously. Knowledge about popa making is passed down across generations through two primary mechanisms: lineage-based transfer and learning-based transfer. This practice faces the challenges of modernity, which encourages a shift in production values from spiritual aspects to market orientation, potentially eroding the cultural values of popa. Nevertheless, Dayak Siang women demonstrate cultural resilience through the quality of popa, distribution restrictions, and spiritual ethics in the production of popa.
