The Journal of Engineering Researcher and Lecturer is dedicated as a forum for researchers and lecturers around the world to report the research results. Technological innovation must be carried out continuously for a better life. However, its sustainability is inseparable from human resources. Abstract

The paper mainly focuses on the compact design of circularly polarized microstrip patch antenna for vehicle-to-vehicle communication. The charging time of electric vehicle is longer waiting time than compared to traditional gasoline-based vehicles. The charging is done at the public charging stations. When the vehicles need charging while driving, they communicate with Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) band to send the information to the nearest vehicles and receive information from the charging station. Moreover, DSRC band is used in many applications area such as Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), Collision Avoidance, and connected vehicles. The research problem in this study is that when installing an antenna on a vehicle, it is important to have a compact size and achieve circular polarization. The research solution for the problem statement in this study is emphasized on 45? inclined slot and corner trimmed is added in rectangular patch to make the current part longer and the impedance matching better, and to get circular polarization. After that, Swiss roll structure CSRR is added in ground plane to improve bandwidth. Finally, outer SRR is added in the ground plane to improve S11. The proposed design has been validated for car-to-car (5.85-5.925 GHZ) communication.

Abstract

This paper presents a systematic literature review of published research on the use of areca nut bark fibres as a reinforcing material in polymer composites. A total of 22 research articles published in Scopus-indexed journals were identified and analysed in depth. In addition, this article presents current issues related to areca nut husk fibre (ANHF) as a reinforcement in composites using the VOSviewer tool. In this article, the authors explains the processing stages of ANHF before it is used as a reinforcement in composites. The chemical treatments carried out are also summarised in this article. Not all types of resins available on the market have been used as matrix in the manufacture of areca nut shell fibre composites. The use of additives derived from natural materials has also been found to be effective in improving the quality of ANHF composites. This article also highlights the need for further research to improve the quality of areca nut husk fibre composites and discusses the unanswered aspects of the published research.

Abstract

Mechanical engineering education plays a very important role in providing students with the knowledge and skills to become competent professionals in the industrialised world. This learning process involves the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and the demonstration method naturally helps to combine both aspects. The demonstration method has proved to be a promising approach to improving students' understanding and practical skills in the subject of milling machining techniques.  This study aims to improve the understanding and practical skills of Mechanical Engineering Class XI students at SMK Negeri 5 Padang through the application of the demonstration method. Using a quasi-experimental research design, the results showed that the use of the demonstration method significantly improved students' understanding and skills. The evaluation by a team of validators also showed that the method was valid in terms of materials, methods and instruments. There was a difference and an increase in scores between the control class and the experimental class. In the written comprehension test, the control class scored an average of 65, while the experimental class scored an average of 80.62. In the practical skills test using the evaluation sheet, the control class achieved an average of 48.87, while the experimental class achieved an average of 74.78. This indicates a positive influence and change in the students' understanding and practical skills after implementing the demonstration method.

Abstract

Areca nut husk fibers have the potential to be used as reinforcement in polymer composites as a substitute for synthetic fibres. In the manufacture of fibre composites, one of the important factors in determining the strength is the matrix to fibre ratio. This study aims to determine the effective ratio or fraction between areca nut husk fibre and orthophthalic polyester resin. Before using areca nut husk fibre, it was chemically treated so that only cellulose remained in the fibre. The areca nut husk fibre was processed into sheets. The composite was manufactured using the hand lay-up technique. Tensile and flexural tests were carried out to determine the mechanical properties. Based on the results of the tests conducted, there are differences in the mechanical properties of the composites. The tensile test results show that the 40% fibre fraction has the highest tensile strength and modulus values. On the other hand, in the flexure tests, the highest tensile strength and modulus values are found in the 30% fibre fraction.

Abstract

The instruction of Manufacturing Technical Drawings remains predominantly teacher-centered, lacking diversity in methodologies, thereby causing students to perceive the subject as challenging. This challenge primarily stems from their struggles in comprehending CAD drawing concepts, interpreting existing drawings, and understanding the functionalities of tools in the AutoCAD application, as outlined in the job sheet. Consequently, students' learning achievements fall short of the minimum passing standards SMK Negeri 1 Tanjung Raya set. This research aims to evaluate the impact of project-based learning on learning outcomes in manufacturing technical drawings and assess the quality of instructional tools employed. The study involves two groups, experimental and control groups, selected through cluster random sampling. Data collection includes pretests administered before the instructional intervention and post-tests conducted after both groups receive different treatments. Results reveal that students in the experimental group attain significantly higher average scores than the control group, indicating a substantial influence of project-based learning on learning outcomes. This approach enhances students' understanding, engagement, and critical thinking abilities within the subject area.
