Abstract

This research was done to find the effect of scientific approach toward students’ writing achievement at tenth grade of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2019/2020. The researcher used a quantitative method and quasi-experimental design as the research methodology with simple random sampling. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is any significant effect or not of scientific approach toward students’ writing achievement. The sample of this research was the tenth of science grade students at SMA N 8 Kota Jambi. The instrument of this research was tests. This study involved 56 students of the tenth grade students at SMA N 8 Kota Jambi academic year 2019/2020 as the object of the study and divided into two classes. Students’ writing achievement is effect after treatment using scientific approach learning method which is proven with students writing achievement higher than before treatment. The average pre-test control class 48,6 and post-test control class 78,8. Average pre-test experimental class 53,5 and post-test 90,5.  Using scientific approach in teaching writing descriptive text makes learning activity more effective and students can well understand learning material in treatment process. Thus the alternative hypothesis is accepted, the value of t-test higher than the value of t-table (3,93>2,004). Based on the finding above, it can be concluded that using scientific approach as learning method has significant effect of students writing achievement at tenth grade students of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi.Key Words: Effect, Writing Achievement, Scientific Approach.

Abstract

This research was done to find the effect of Kahoot online media on students’ scores in learning personal pronoun at tenth grade of SMA N 9 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2020/2021. The researcher used a quantitative method and experimental design as the research methodology with random sampling. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there was any significant effect of kahoot online media on students’ scores in learning personal pronoun. The sample of this research was at tenth grade of SMA N 9 Kota Jambi.This study involved 60 students, there was consist of 30 students of control class (X IPS 2) and 30 students of experimental class ( X IPS 4) at tenth grade of SMA N 9 Kota Jambi academic year of 2020/2021 as the object of the study and divided into two classes. Students’ scores in learning personal pronoun is effect after treatment Kahoot online media which is proven with students’ score higher than before treatment. The average pre-test control class 37,1 and post-test control class 48,7. Average pre-test experimental class 41,5 and post-test experimental class 83,5. Kahoot online media makes learning process more interesting. The value of t-test higher than the value of t-table (26,11> 2,001). Based on the finding above, it can be concluded that Kahoot online media has a significant effect of students’ scores in learning personal pronoun at tenth grade of SMA N 9 Kota Jambi.Key Words : Kahoot, Online Media, Personal Pronoun

Abstract

The purpose of this research is want to know is correlation between students’ motivation and reading comprhension students at the second semester at English language education at University of Batanghari. The research is using is quatitative research with a Descriptive, which the data that get is quantitative data and the data is explained as describe. The population of this research is the at second semester students at English Language Education at Univesity of Batanghari and the were 30 respondents were as the sample. The data was  get from the students’ motivation quesionnaires and reading comprehension. the test. After analyzed and calculate the data, it was found that mean of students’ motivation questionnaires was 63% (19) the categorized was in high score, and 37% (11) the categorized was in score low. 0% none was in categorized very high and very low. And the range score of the reading comprehension was 30. The maximum score was 70 and the low score was 40. Meanwhile the sum 1720. The result showed that 87% (26) the categorized good, and 13% (4) the categorized poor. 0% none of the had very good and very poor reading comprehension. It was found the result of the correlation between students' motivation and reading comprehension  is  0.71 is higher that the level of correlation probability which score sig. 0.00. The result indicated that the  is rejected and the is accepted which means that there was a correlation between students’ motivation and reading comprehension at the second semester students at English Language Education at University of Batanghari.Keywords : Students’ Motivation, Reading, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out whether there was any significant effect of prediction strategy toward students’ reading comprehension for the tenth grade students at SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi. The research methodology of this study was true-experimental research which involved experimental class and control class. The total population of this research was the tenth grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi, which consisted of 225 students. The researcher used 2 classes as the sample of this study. These 2 classes were divided into experimental and control class. There were 28 students at experimental class (X Science 1) and 29 students at control class (X Science 2). In collecting the data, the researcher gave pre-test, treatment, and post-test to both classes. The formula used to analyze the data was t-test. The researcher found that the pre-test mean of experimental class was 60,35 and post-test was 83,57. Meanwhile, the pre-test mean of control class was 55,51 and post-test was 68,96. Furthermore, the researcher discovered that tobservation was 11,63, whereas the ttable was 2,004 for a = 0,025. This data showed that tobservation was higher than the ttable (11,63>2,004), so, was accepted and was rejected. As a result, there was any significant effect of prediction strategy toward students’ reading comprehension for the tenth grade students at SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi.Key Words: Prediction Strategy, Reading, Students’ Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether or not there was any correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability of English language learners. The problem of this study referred to the correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability. The study was conducted at the A2 Class of Second Semester Students of English Education Study Program Faculty at Batanghari University Jambi. The population of the study was 15 active students who were studying as the member of a2 class on the second semester students of English Education Study Program Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Batanghari University Jambi in academic year 2019/2020. The sample of this study was all of the A2 class of the second semester students which consist of 15 students with 4 male and 11 female students. The types of the data were quantitative. The data were obtained by using self-confidence questionnaire and speaking test and analyzed by using manual correlation analysis with Pearson Product-Moment formula. Furthermore, it was revealed that r-obtained was (.73) which the researcher concluded that the H0was rejected and H1was accepted. The result concluded that there was a correlation between self-confidence and the speaking ability of the second semester students of English Education Study Program at Batanghari University Jambi.Keywords: Self-confidence, Speaking Ability.

Abstract

This research was done to find the effect of using suggestopedia method on reading comprehension in descriptive text at tenth grade of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2019/2020. The researcher used a quantitative research and experimental research design as the research methodology with random sampling. The objective of this research was to find out whether there was significant effect of using sugegstopedia method on reading comprehension in descriptive text at tenth grade of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi. The sample of this research was at tenth grade of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi. The instrument of this research was a reading test. This study involved 60 students, there was consist of 30 students of control class (X MIPA 4) and 30 students of experimental class (X MIPA 2) at tenth grade of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi academic year of 2019/2020 as the object of the study and divided into two classes. Reading comprehension in descriptive text is effect after treatment suggestopedia method which is proven with student’s score higher than before treatment. The average pre-test control class 38,6 and post-test control class 53,3. Average pre-test experimental class 46 and post-test experimental class 90,8. Suggestopedia method makes learning process more interesting. The value of t-test higher than the value of t-table (20,41>2,001) based on the finding above, it can be concluded that suggestopedia method has a significant effect of reading comprehension in descriptive text at tenth grade of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi.Key Words: Suggestopedia, Reading Comprehension, Descriptive Text.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analysis the grammatical errors in simple sentences by Third Semester students at Mathematic Study Program in Batanghari University academic year 2019/2020. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative. The samples of this research are thirteen mathematic study program students at third semester in Batanghari University. The instruments of the research are test and interview. Based on the result, students often made grammatical errors in their test, the errors were classified into three categories; addition, omission, and misformation. Then researcher calculated the total errors made by them using the formula in order to find out the most common grammatical error. It is found that the most grammatical error made by them is Misformation which is up to 77,04%, and the smallest percentage of errors made by students is Addition which is 1,64%. Besides, the researcher also conducted a short interview to confirm the data on the test. Based on the finding above, the researcher concludes that mathematic study program students at third semester need to study grammar deeper in order to avoid misunderstanding in writing simple sentences.Key Words: Error Analysis, Grammar, Simple Sentence.

Abstract

This research was done aimed at investigating the effect of using RCRR reading strategy towards the students’ reading comprehension at the seventh grade of SMPN 2 Jambi City in academic year 2019/2020. This research carried out in a quantitative method and quasi-experimental design. The sampling technique used in this research was simple random technique. The population of this research was the seventh grades students. The sample was two classes which divided into two group assigned as experimental (VII C) and control class (VII D). The experimental class was taught using the RCRR strategy as a treatment, while the control class was not. To collect the data, the researcher conducted pre-test and post-test of both classes. The researcher used t-test to know the effect of RCRR strategy.After conducting the pre-test, and post-test to both classes and giving the treatment to the experimental class, the researcher analysed the data. The mean score of pre-test session in control class was 55,46 while the mean of experimental class was 56,09. This score was increased in the post-test, the mean score of control class was 69,37 while the mean score of experimental class was 76,25. Based on the calculation, the value of t-test observation was higher compared to the value of t-test table, 5,010 > 1,998 at the degree of freedom (df 32-1=31) and the level of significance 5% in which thealternative hypothesis was accepted. The researcher interpreted the result that the RCRR strategy had a significant effect toward the students’ reading comprehension of seventh grade at SMPN 2 Jambi City.  Key Words:  Read, Cover, Remember, Retell.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze and to classify the types of errors, to find the frequency of errors in each type in class 3 IPS SMAN 8 Jambi City. The method used in this research is qualitative method. qualitative design applied in research in the form of case studies. This research was also carried out using error analysis procedures ranging from data collection, error identification, error translation and problem explanation. in this study, the data can be through observations and test. The results showed that students made four types of errors namely omission, addition to misformation and misoder of the four errors, the most errors lie in misformation. there are as many as 50,94%. further note that 24,52% occurs in addition and 24,52% occurs in omission. while misoder is 0%Keyword: Error Analysis, Conditional Sentences Type II

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out whether there is any effect in using note- taking method toward listening ability at second semester at English language education faculty of teacher training and education University of Batanghari Jambi. The researcher methodology of this research was an experimental research. Which conducted the experiment class and control class. The population of the research was the second semester at English language education faculty of teacher training and education of students was 30 students consist of two classes. The experiment class (X) was 15 students and control class (Y) was 15 students as samples. The researcher gave listening test to collected data. There were two test, pretest and posttest. The formula that was used analyze the data was used T-test. The researcher found thet the pretest mean of experiment class was 58.67 and posttest mean was 79.33. the pretest mean of control class 52 and posttest mean was 68. It was found tobservation =2.323, where is ttable was 2.048 for 5%. The tobservation higher than the ttable (2.323 >2.048), so Ha was accepted while H0 was rejected. It means that there was significant effect of Note-taking method toward listening ability at second semester at English language education faculty of teacher training and education University of Batanghari Jambi.Keyword: Listening Ability, Note-taking Method.
