<![CDATA[This study deals in the slang word analysis in Avril Lavigne song lyrics “Head Above Water” album. This study aimed to identify the types of slang word found in Avril Lavigne song lyrics “Head Above Water” album, to find out the meaning of slang word in Avril Lavigne song lyrics “Head Above Water” album, to analyze the slang word which are realized in Avril Lavigne song lyrics “Head Above Water” album. Descriptive qualitative research was applied in this study. The data of research were taken from Avril Lavigne song lyric “Head Above Water” album, 74 words found in this song. The data were analyzed by identifying the song into four types of process, classifying the word in each type of slang, analyze the data into the slang word. It was found that there were four types of slang in selected Avril Lavigne song lyrics “Head Above Water” album namely blending, coinage, clipping, and compounding. The writer found the most widely types of slang namely clipping among words of slang in selected 8 songs lyrics of Avril Lavigne “Head Above Water” album. The researcher was realized that the words where the slang word which was found in Avril Lavigne song lyrics “Head Above Water” album by reading all the lyrics in detail and analyzing the word by trying find the correct word or the real meaning, then the researcher can decide the word was called the slang word.Key words: Analysis, Slang Word, Avril Lavigne Song Lyrics]]>

<![CDATA[This study focuses on the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition texts in second grade at SMAN 8 Jambi City in the academic year 2020/2021. This study aims to determine the students ability in writing analytical exposition text in terms of the structure of the analytical itself, namely Thesis, Argument, and Reiteration. The purpose of this research is to see the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition text. This research was conducted at SMAN 8 Jambi City. This research used a descriptive qualitative method by taking the sample used simple random sampling and then obtained XI IPS 2 with the total number of 36 students as subject of the research. The instrument used is writing test based on the topic that has been determined by this research. In this study this research used an assessment rubric adapted from the Hamp-Lyons theory used by a team of assessors who are experts in the field of writing. The result of this study showed the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition text were: 6 students get very good criteria, 14 students get good criteria, 10 students get adequate criteria, and 6 students get poor criteria. This means, most of the XI IPS 2 at SMA N 8 Jambi City students got “good” criteria in writing Analytical Exposition Text. Therefore, students have to pay attention to their writing skills and all criteria that must be met to make good writing.Key Words: Analytical exposition, Writing test, Writing ability.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of the research is to find out the difficulties of students seventh semester has difficult in teaching while following the practical field of experience program during Pandemic Covid-19. The research methodology of this study was a qualitative research design, and a phenomenology approach with technic data collection using purposive sampling. The total of respondent that allowed of this research is six students. The respondent are students at seventh semester in English education department that had been done the practical field of experience program during Pandemic Covid-19. The result of the research that a half of students seventh semester got difficulties in ability and stress when teaching in class. The student difficulties in teaching are teaching model, teaching material, time in teaching and stress in teaching means psychology students feel when did the practical field of experience. There were 4 of 6 students at seventh semester considered that time in teaching while did PPL program was very short and ineffective for explaining the material in class. Then, there were 3 of 6 students at seventh semester had felt afraid, shock, nervous or consume when taught at first time. The cause of the students’ difficulties in teaching while doing PPL program during Pandemic Covid-19 are the lack of students at seventh in discipline students at school while learning process, they depended used application that expensive in cost internet data, they felt disappointed cause not gave the best performance in English learning process in class that they had studied while in university.Keywords: The Field of Experience Program, Students Difficulties in Teaching.]]>

<![CDATA[This study investigated the students’ perceptions in online learning toward reading comprehension at tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. A quantitative research design was used in this study. The participants are 36 students from tenth grade MIPA 4 of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. The instruments used to collect the data were questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 30 statements. Google Form was used to obtain the data and the result was used to analyze the data. As a result of the study, the researcher concluded that the benefits of online reading have had a substantial effect on the knowledge of students’ vocabulary, and the students have strongly focused on the educational evaluation they read during online learning. The data reported the highest percentage is 56% of the students strongly agreed that online media supported their activity in reading during online learning. However, the lowest percentage is 5% of the students disagreed that online media supported their activity in reading during online learning. The results show that the mean and standard deviation between students’ perceptions in online learning toward reading comprehension are 77.00 mean and 16,696 standard deviation, which is the standard deviation is higher than the mean. It shows that students' perceptions are considered positive because most of the students agree that online learning helped them to improve their reading comprehensions skills.Keywords: Students’ Perception, Online Learning, Reading Comprehension.]]>

<![CDATA[Reading is a result of interaction between writer’s mind and the reader’s mind. Which in this process the reader tries to create the meanings that intended by the writer. In addition, the readers have discovered by find out what readers main idea of their reading. The purpose of this research is finding out whether the google doc is effective for an English essay exercise to improve students English Reading skill as they doing e-learning through school from home program. The objective of this research to find out the effectivity students in enhancing their English writing by conducting an essay exercise digitally through the google doc as an alternative e-learning. The research design in this research is quantitative. The research conducted Senior High School 3 Jambi City. The population of this research is eleventh grade of science IV class students. The data obtained through quantitative research with the test. Overall, after the google doc was implemented in the test, the result of the test is quite good, in the test result, all of each entire students dominates the entire middle score categorize which the average score is from 70. Moreover, the mean score results from the entire of all students score result is 68.8 which is means that the mean score is in good criteria category. In addition, it can be concluded that there is a significance change of students English Reading before and after implementing google doc as English essay exercise.Key Words: Reading Skill, E-learning, Essay Exercise, Google Doc.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of the research is to know how the students’ perception toward learning vocabulary by using U-Dictionary application at the first grade students of SMAN 3 Jambi. This research is uses qualitative as the design of this research. The setting of this research is located at Jl. Guru Mukhtar Kota Jambi. The subject of the research is students in X science 1 with the total number 30 students but it takes 6 students in purposive sampling. The instrument of this research is used interview. Data were collected by using interview and analyzed by using code technique. Based on the results of interview all of the students prefer to use U-Dictionary application to learn vocabulary than the printed dictionaries. The use of U-Dictionary application had positive and negative effect for students such as students are easier to understand and more practical, the students can learning English form unknown become know, U-Dictionary application added some new words, it can made the students’ refresh, it can be used anytime and anywhere and suitable for current digital era. While negative effect such as, the students felt annoyed by many advertisements that appear on the U-Dictionary application, the students felt that sometimes in the conversation feature the students’ voice are not detected, and the students felt that when their handphone battery runs out then they are automatically cannot use the U-Dictionary application. <![CDATA[This research was aimed to find out the barrier factors in teaching and learning English at the ninth grade students of SMP YKP Pertamina Jambi. The research methodology of this study was qualitative research with random sampling. The researcher conducted at ninth grade students in SMP YKP Pertamina Jambi. The subject of this research is 1 teacher and 7 students, by using online interview with research instrument, technique of data collecting, and technique of data analysis. Overall, the result of this research showed barrier factors in teaching and learning English in SMP YKP Pertamina Jambi. Finding from this research shows that there are barrier factors when teaching and learning English, and factors that most influence students when learning English. Hence, it can be concluded that there was a barrier factor which was the teacher's mistake when learning English and the most dominant factor experienced by students was family factors that could affect in learning.Keywords: Barrier factors, teaching, learning process.]]>

<![CDATA[This research was aimed to find out the student problems on online learning in reading comprehension. This research took this title to find out what are the problems of students in reading comprehension on online learning. The setting of the research was in Junior High School 2 and the subject of the research was the Ninth Grade Students. The problems in reading online that there are five aspects of reading comprehension were determining main idea, making inference, identifying reference, finding specific information, and the understanding meaning of words or vocabulary. The research methodology of This research was a qualitative phenomenological approach research which involve purposive sampling. The total of respondents who researched this was twenty-two ninth grade of students. The results of the study explained that most of the ninth grade students had problems answering the test questions that had been given. The result is that only a few students understand the comprehension after they read about it. The cause of student problems in online learning is the lack of understanding of the meaning of the test so that they have problems in determining the information contained in a test. <![CDATA[This study aimed to find out the type of illocutionary acts that is contained the utterance of the main character and to determine the most dominant illocutionary act that is used by the main character in the movie. This research use applies qualitative method. As the result there are 48 utterances that contain illocutionary act found in Ratatouille movie. The researcher found 4 classifications of illocutionary act by using Yule’s classification. The fourth types are; directives found 20 utterances, expressive found 11 utterances, representatives found 10 utterances and commissive found 6 utterances. <![CDATA[The research aims to analyze feminism in Maleficent film by Robert Stromberg besides being interested, the research also found that there was an element of women oppression by men where men wanted to control women. This research uses applies qualitative method. The purpose of this research, namely; 1) To the explain type of feminism in the film Maleficent by Robert Stromberg 2) To the explain determine the factors that cause the emergence of feminism in the film Maleficent by Robert Stromberg. The results of this research, the writer had found one kind of feminism that existed in the Maleficent film, namely ecofeminism. For the factors that led to the appearance of feminism in the Maleficent film, the research had found, namely: ecological protection factors and ending domestic violence and abuse factors.
