Abstract

General anesthesia is a procedure to eliminate pain centrally accompanied by reversible loss of consciousness. General anesthesia has several complications, one of which is hypothermia. There are several factors that influence the occurrence of hypothermia during surgery including age. This study aims to determine the relationship between age and the incidence of hypothermia in patients with general anesthesia. This type of research is quantitative research with a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique used consecutive sampling with a total of 31 respondents with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The instruments in this study were observation sheets and tympanic thermometers for body temperature. Data collection was carried out with observation sheets and data were analyzed using the Spearman rank test. The results of the study showed that almost all respondents were adults (96.8%). The results of the study showed no significant relationship between age and the incidence of hypothermia (p-value 0.375). There was no significant relationship in this study, possibly caused by several other factors that influenced the relationship between age and the incidence of hypothermia. Abstract

The HbA1c test has been recommended by the International Committee and the American Diabetes Association to diagnose and monitor the effectiveness of therapy in patients with diabetes mellitus. Pharmacological therapy for controlling blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus may include oral medications, insulin, or a combination of both. This study aimed to compare the average HbA1c levels of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using oral antidiabetic drugs (OAD), insulin, or a combination of OAD and insulin. This research utilized an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design and employed a consecutive sampling technique, analyzing patients' medical records from January 2019 to June 2022 at Dustira Hospital. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The study concluded that among the 123 data samples, 41 patients using OAD had an average HbA1c of 11.77%, 41 patients undergoing insulin therapy had an average HbA1c of 9.68%, and 41 patients receiving a combination of OAD and insulin had an average HbA1c of 10.73%. The results indicated a significant difference in the average HbA1c levels between the OAD and insulin treatment groups (p=0.002; < 0.05) and no significant difference between the OAD and OAD-insulin combination groups (p=0.092; > 0.05). Although significant differences in average HbA1c levels were observed between the three types of management, the ideal HbA1c target had not been achieved. This suggests that other factors, such as patient adherence to medication, physical activity patterns, nutritional diet, and the duration of diabetes mellitus, may also play a role in influencing treatment outcomes. Abstract

Scabies, a parasitic skin infestation caused by Sarcoptes scabiei, primarily affects children under five, presenting with intense pruritus and sleep disturbances. In Bandung City, scabies ranks among the top 21 most commonly reported diseases, with 11,623 cases recorded. Risk factors include poor hygiene practices and suboptimal environmental conditions. This study aimed to characterize the incidence of scabies among children under five treated at the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) Clinic of Caringin Primary Health Center, Bandung City, during 2022–2023. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study utilizing secondary data from medical records of diagnosed scabies cases. Analyzed variables included age, gender, nutritional status, and case classification (new or recurrent). Among 196 identified cases (154 in 2022; 42 in 2023), the incidence rate declined from 13.6 to 4.3 per 1,000 children. Most patients were male (57.1%) and aged 2–3 years (49.49%). In terms of nutritional status, 58.67% had normal nutrition, while 21.43% were undernourished, and 17.86% were severely stunted. Recurrent cases predominated in both years, though new cases proportionally increased in 2023. The observed decline in incidence may reflect the efficacy of treatment interventions and preventive programs(e.g., hygiene promotion and sanitation surveillance). However, the the persistent rise in new cases suggest ongoing community transmission. In conclusion, scabies incidence among toddlers attending the IMCI Clinic showed a downward trend during 2022-2023, with highest prevalence in boys aged 2–3 years and normal nutritional status. Abstract

Individuals with overweight or obesity are at a higher risk of developing knee osteoarthritis (OA) compared to those with a normal body mass index (BMI). This increased risk is attributed to metabolic effects and the excessive mechanical load on the joint, which escalates with weight gain. Previous studies have established a correlation between the higher BMI and increased severity of joint damage in patients with knee OA. This analytic, comparative study utilized cross-sectional design to investigate the difference in Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) Score between patients with and without obesity who have knee osteoarthritis (OA) The analysis was conducted using secondary data from medical records and knee X-rays at Cianjur General District Hospital during 2020. A total of 50 patients were included, with 25 patients in each group (OA with obesity and OA without obesity). The majority of participants were female (80%), aged 56-65 years old (52%), and had a BMI classified as class II obesity (50%). KL Score ranged from grade 1 to 3. Data analysis using the non-parametric Mann- Whitney U test revealed a statistically significant difference in KL Score between the two groups (pvalue=0.000). The increased mechanical stress associated with obesity is hypothesized to be a causative agent that aggravates joint damage, as evidenced by the more severe degree of the Kellgren- Lawrence Score in the obese population. Abstract

Anesthesia is defined as the loss of pain sensation, with or without the loss of consciousness. After the anesthetic is discontinued and surgery is completed, the patient is routinely managed in the recovery room, also known as the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). One of the primary goals of PACU is to monitor and document the recovery time before the patient is transferred to a general ward or an intensive care unit. One of the post-operative complications in pediatric patients is delayed emergence from anesthesia. This is defined as the failure to regain consciousness within 30–60 minutes after discontinuation of anesthesia. Delayed emergence is often a residual effect of anesthetic, sedative, and analgesic drugs. Hypospadias is one of the various surgical conditions among pediatric patients. Indonesia reports a relatively high incidence of hypospadias. This study aimed to determine the postoperative anesthesia recovery time following hypospadias correction in children with ASA physical status I and II at Bandung City Hospital from 2017 to 2020. This cross-sectional study utilized secondary data from medical records, with a sample of 69 people meeting the inclusion criteria. The results showed a mean recovery time of 59.70 minutes, with the shortest recovery time being 45 minutes and the longest 135 minutes. Abstract

Antibodies are a component of the adaptive immune system that plays a crucial role in preventing foreign pathogens that cause various infections. One effective way to enhance the immune response is through the consumption of probiotic-based fruit yogurt (fruitghurt). The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of administering red guava juice-based fruitghurt on the immune response of mice induced by Escherichia coli bacteria. This research used is a laboratory experimental design. The subjects consisted of Mus musculus mice, which were divided into 3 groups: positive control group, negative control group, and treatment group. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and post hoc comparisons conducted via Tukey’s test to determine specific intergroup differences. The results demonstrate a statistically significant rise in antibody titers among mice receiving fruit yogurt treatment compared to control groups. The observed increase in antibody titers may be attributed to the immunomodulatory effects of Lactobacillus acidophilus, the micronutrient content of red guava, and immune stimulation induced by Escherichia coli exposure. Furthermore, Lactobacillus acidophilus enhances macrophage activity and antigenic presentation, thereby stimulating B lymphocytes to produce antibodies. Concurently, the micronutrients in red guava promotes the proliferation and differentiation of B lymphocytes, further enhancing antibody synthesis. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that yogurt fermented with Lactobacillus acidophilus and enriched with red guava juice exerts significant immunomodulatory effects. This functional food intervention enhances antibody titers, lymphocyte counts, and macrophage activity in Escherichia coli-infected mice, underscoring its potential as a dietary strategy to bolster immune responses against bacterial infections.
