This research aims to examine the nature of humans, starting from the essence that exists in humans, the purpose of life or the purpose of its creation, the potentials possessed, and their implications for humanistic education. This research becomes important because humanistic education based on the principle of humanity and the interests of fellow human beings seek to answer the problems that exist in the world of education, especially those related to the development of learners' potential through warm interaction and harmonious communication. This research is a type of literature research with a qualitative approach. The data is obtained through sources in books and scientific articles related to the topic. This study shows that God equips humans with various potentials and characteristics to fulfill all the tasks and obligations carried out by humans. The potential and characteristics given to humans also distinguish them from other creatures. In addition, these potentials also need to be concerned with determining the direction and purpose of education. One educational concept that gives full attention to these potentials is humanistic education by forming a warm interaction and harmonious communication between educators and learners.

Abstract

Aggressive behaviour has a significant negative effect on learning and academic performance. This study investigated the significant main effect of token reinforcement, cognitive behavioural therapy, and degree of disability on managing aggressive behaviour among pupils with intellectual disability. The study participants were 60 pupils (N = 60, N = 27 boys; N = 33 girls; mean age = 11.7) with intellectual disability who were purposively selected from three (3) special schools in Ibadan Metropolis. The participants were divided into three treatment groups: token reinforcement, cognitive behavioural therapy, and control groups, with the degree of disability as the moderating factor. The token reinforcement and cognitive behavioural therapy groups met for thirty sessions over twelve weeks. Two treatment groups were assessed using the Overt Aggression Scale, while the three treatment groups were assessed post-intervention using the Overt Aggression Scale. Data for aggressive behaviour performance were collected after the participants were screened for mild intellectual disability. An analysis of covariance and estimated means was used to examine the data. The results revealed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the three (3) treatment groups. The degree of disability on the aggressive behaviour of pupils with mild intellectual disability was significant. The interaction effect of treatment and degree of disability was significant on participants' aggressive behaviour. Based on this study's findings, the recommendation is that token reinforcement and cognitive behavioural therapy be adopted to manage aggressive behaviour among pupils with mild intellectual disability.

Abstract

Scientific thinking skill as the demand and a solution for the various diverse issues of the 21st century skills is necessarily crucial to be acquired by the students. The present research aims to investigate the effect of project-based learning on scientific thinking skills by employing a quasi-experimental design. The sample of this study consisted of 60 students, divided into 2 groups. In the experimental group, a project-based learning model was applied, while the control group implemented it through a communicative learning method. The data were collected using the instrumental test of scientific thinking skill which was carried out in both pre and post-learning. The data analysis of this study adopted paired sample t test and independent-sample t test. The results showed that 1) there was an effect of project-based learning models identified on scientific thinking skill, thus H1 was accepted while H0 was rejected, 2) there was no effect of communicative learning methods founded on scientific thinking skill, thus H0 was accepted and H1 was rejected. This research shows the effect of project-based learning models on scientific thinking skills.

Abstract

The importance of English as a lingua franca requires students to master English. However, many students still cannot speak English, especially those who live in a country where English is a foreign language. For example, Indonesian students still face numerous problems in learning English, especially speaking.
