Abstract

This research examines the correlation between the utilization of Sasak's indigenous knowledge in the learning process and the development of critical thinking abilities among students of Islamic education in the region of West Nusa Tenggara. The present study employed a quantitative research approach, utilizing a survey design methodology to gather data. The primary instrument employed for data collection was a critical thinking abilities questionnaire. The data underwent analysis by the application of a regression test, employing a significance threshold of .05. The findings indicate that there exists a statistically significant correlation between the implementation of learning based on Sasak's local wisdom and the development of critical thinking abilities among Islamic education students in West Nusa Tenggara. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that the utilization of Sasak's local wisdom-based learning contributes to a 30% improvement in critical thinking skills. Therefore, it is imperative for higher institutions to promote the integration of local wisdom-based learning approaches in order to effectively attain the learning objectives associated with 21st-century capabilities.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced educational institutions to transition to online learning to maintain social distancing. However, concerns have been raised that not all students may be equally prepared or equipped to succeed in this new environment. Therefore, it is essential to comprehend students' readiness for online learning during the pandemic and the challenges and barriers they may encounter to ensure inclusive and accessible education. This study aims to assess the preparedness of University Muhammadiyah Malang undergraduates in Indonesia for online learning during the pandemic. Using an online questionnaire, a quantitative survey approach was used to collect data from a sample of 260 undergraduates who enrolled in Foreign Language for Specific Purposes. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Based on the data collected and analyzed, the study found that the students were not fully prepared for online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the undergraduates were motivated to learn through online learning and felt confident in basic computer and internet functions, they faced challenges in making personalized and successful decisions about their online educational activities during the pandemic. The study also revealed that factors such as access to technology and internet connectivity influenced their preparedness for online learning. These findings highlight the need for targeted support to enhance students' preparedness for online learning and improve their overall learning outcomes.

Abstract

Modern commentators and intellectuals have begun to explore studies that link the position of humans and plants as a unity of living things created by God's holy creation. Generally, when talking about ecology, humans are used as the main character in caring for nature. Many verses in the Qur’an talk about how the human spirit is metaphorized with ecological elements. As a religious principle, Islam describes monotheism as a syajarah thayyibah whose roots reach the ground and its branches reach the sky (QS: 14:24). This research is qualitative descriptive-analytical research. Researchers will collect data related to this research. Furthermore, the data was analyzed to find a solution with the Maqashidi Interpretation method then relate it to how ecological ethics lives in Islamic education. This research focuses on QS. Al-Fatihah: 1 and Ar-Rum: 30. The result of this research show that the redaction of rabb al-'alamin in QS. Al-Fatihah shows the closeness between Rabb and 'alamin. On the other hand, the Qur’an explains that natural damage occurs due to human activities (QS.30:41). The implied meaning in the two verses is that humans, nature, and other creatures need each other and are encouraged to respect each other. An understanding of comprehensive ecological verses will have a good effect on ecological ethics in the world of Islamic education. The educational process provides knowledge about how nature works and how to interact with the natural world. The growing eco-Islamic movement utilises Islamic educational institutions, both traditional and modern as centres of environmental learning and teaching. The Islamic educational landscape remains essential in broadcasting environmental narratives that present ethical and educational visions relevant to contemporary ecological movements.

Abstract

This study was prompted by students' lack of interest in reading and literacy abilities in Indonesia. In 2015, Indonesia ranked 62 out of 76 countries in the PISA survey. The government created the School Literacy Movement (SLM) program in 2016, in response to students' low literacy scores and reading interest. The government expects that this program will increase reading enthusiasm in Indonesia. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of the SLM on students' reading interest. The method utilized is a literature research or review. A literature study is a research design used to collect data sources on a certain topic. As the stage of searching for literary sources, data collecting for the study of literature is carried out using a database search tool. This research is conducted by synthesizing conceptual or empirical articles pertinent to the study to be conducted. It begins with the analysis of articles pertinent to the topic to be reviewed, this entails discussing and reviewing the articles by identifying and classifying them based on the elements to be reviewed from multiple articles that discuss essentially the same subject. According to the papers discovered and evaluated, the school literacy movement has a positive role on students' reading interest, this is proven by the increase of library visits, the increase in problem-solving skills in the learning process, the increase in students' capacity to write Wall Print Magazines, and the increase in the number of students who read before class. As a result, it can be inferred that SLM has a role in enhancing children's interest in reading through various school-based programs and activities.

Abstract

This study investigates the similarities and differences of perceptions of teachers and students, examines the issue of academic integrity, and explores the potential for incorporating AI writing correction tools into language teaching and learning. Eighteen lecturers and thirty-nine graduate students were asked to respond to a closed- and open-ended questionnaire to answer the research questions. The sample was collected from the TESOL program at St. Andrews University's International Education Institute. The questionnaire was analysed using Qualtrix to see the patterns from the Likert scale, and thematic analysis was utilized to anticipate the identified themes from the open-ended questionnaire. The findings show that teachers and students have various opinions about using AI writing correction tools in a classroom setting, with some similarities and differences. Interestingly, the majority of teachers and students did not regard the use of AI writing correction tools as a violation of academic integrity. Furthermore, there was a conflicting view among teachers about integrating AI writing correction tools in the classroom. Meanwhile, most students agreed that AI writing could be integrated into teaching and learning.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are institutions where students live who are not accompanied by their parents in their daily lives. The aim of this research is to determine the influence of parental education on the learning abilities of students living in Islamic boarding schools. This research uses a quantitative approach with the research subjects being Islamic boarding school-based junior high school students in Garut, Tasikmalaya Regency and City, West Java, Indonesia. The sample used was 161 students consisting of 63 students from class 1, 57 people from class 2 and 41 people from class 3 MTs (Junior High schools). Data analysis used the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (Manova). The results of the analysis show that there is a significant effect between parents' educational background on the ability to learn Mathematics, Indonesian and Arabic. Meanwhile, for English and science subjects, parents' educational background does not have a significant effect. Even though there is no effect, in general the educational background of bachelor’s parents has a better comparison across all subjects. Differences appear in the subjects of English, Science, Mathematics and Indonesian, where the junior high school education background is much better than the high school education. Meanwhile, for Arabic subjects, the results of the analysis show that the educational background of elementary school parents is better than high school.
