Abstract

Over the course of a decade, digital storytelling (DST) has earned a growing amount of attention as a strong instructional resource that has grabbed the interest of scholars. Digital storytelling (DST) has emerged as a promising pedagogical approach that could help moderate the usefulness of media in the classroom. Myriad studies have demonstrated the positive effects of digital storytelling (DST) on the students’ language skills; however, these studies rarely include ESL students and their realistic depictions of everyday basis. To address the void, this quantitative study aimed to survey ESL students' point of view of DST-based task on speaking classroom. Relying on Anwar's (2016) TBLT approach instruction, the current study involving thirty-four students studying at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia. The statistical evidence indicated ESL students perceive the implementation of digital storytelling-based tasks improves their motivation while allowing them to develop ideas and collaborate among groupmates. Implications and recommendations for future studies are discussed.

Abstract

This study was prompted by students' lack of interest in reading and literacy abilities in Indonesia. In 2015, Indonesia ranked 62 out of 76 countries in the PISA survey. The government created the School Literacy Movement (SLM) program in 2016, in response to students' low literacy scores and reading interest. The government expects that this program will increase reading enthusiasm in Indonesia. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of the SLM on students' reading interest. The method utilized is a literature research or review. A literature study is a research design used to collect data sources on a certain topic. As the stage of searching for literary sources, data collecting for the study of literature is carried out using a database search tool. This research is conducted by synthesizing conceptual or empirical articles pertinent to the study to be conducted. It begins with the analysis of articles pertinent to the topic to be reviewed, this entails discussing and reviewing the articles by identifying and classifying them based on the elements to be reviewed from multiple articles that discuss essentially the same subject. According to the papers discovered and evaluated, the school literacy movement has a positive role on students' reading interest, this is proven by the increase of library visits, the increase in problem-solving skills in the learning process, the increase in students' capacity to write Wall Print Magazines, and the increase in the number of students who read before class. As a result, it can be inferred that SLM has a role in enhancing children's interest in reading through various school-based programs and activities.

Specifically, this study aims to implement the concept of the common good as a universal religious moderation value in Indonesian society as a nation with a significant plurality. The method used in this research is qualitative library research using secondary data. Based on the relevant literature, the results showed that the concept of the common good as the idea of promoting religious education moderation as a solution to the problems of diversity and plurality of religions, cultures, tribes, ethnicities, and groups in Indonesia as a nation with a high level of diversity. Abstract

The current research aims to assess the psychometric properties of the emotional intelligence scale among university students in Indonesia. This research used a survey design. The current research participants were 288 university students in Palembang, West Nusa Tenggara, Kupang, Yogyakarta, and Jakarta, Indonesia. Two procedures were used to analyze the data: exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results showed that EFA with comprehensive techniques that compromise parallel analysis yielded a 5-factor solution: empathy with five items, handling relationships with five items, motivation for oneself with six items, self-awareness with seven items, and managing emotion with eight items. The five factors solution was confirmed through CFA with the value: Chi square=2.631, Tucker-Lewis’s index (TLI)=.804, comparative fit index (CFI)=.823, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA)=.075, and standardized root mean residual (SRMR)=.743. The scale validation and reliability were tested through average variance extracted (AVE) with the value ranged from 0.271 to 0.594, construct reliability (CR) with the value ranged from 0.706 to 0.879, and Cronbach’s alpha with the value ranged from 0.706 to 0.879. Therefore, based on psychometric analysis, the scale is valid and reliable to be used in measuring emotional intelligence among university students in Indonesia.
