Journal of Community Service in Science and Engineering (JoCSE) publishes articles on community service and empowerment results that are problem-solving, comprehensive, meaningful, and sustainable, with clear goals. Community service and empowerment activities must have novelty, innovation, and creativity. The manuscripts do not just replicate the same activities in different places, have measurable results and impacts on society, and support achieving the goals outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDGs are a global plan agreed upon by world leaders to end poverty, reduce inequality and protect the environment. The SDGs contain 17 Goals and 169 Targets, so each article must be linked to these goals and targets (as stated in the contribution statement).

Abstract

The majority of the community in Kubangsari Village, Cilegon City, are farmers and factory workers, with approximately 20% of the population directly dependent on the corn farming sector. Traditionally, corn harvests have been sold raw at prices around IDR 8,000, leaving farmers vulnerable to economic fluctuations, particularly during the rainy season when fields are prone to flooding. This community service program aims to empower the Kubang Lestari Women Farmers Group (KWT) through the innovation of processing purple corn into a functional health beverage named JAJANTAN (Jahe Jagung Anti Oksidan/Ginger Corn Antioxidant). The implementation method spanned one month, involving field surveys, direct production workshops, and assistance in packaging and halal certification. The results demonstrated a significant increase in the added value of agricultural commodities; raw corn was transformed into a ready-to-sell bottled beverage priced at IDR 10,000 per unit, with a production cost of IDR 7,000. This mentorship has successfully increased public knowledge regarding food product diversification and opened opportunities for the development of local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), with full support from the local village government.

Abstract

Community service is a fundamental pillar of higher education aimed at transforming academic research into practical solutions for societal empowerment. This community service program focuses on the KWT Bunga Telang in Tegal Ratu Village, Cilegon, which faces significant hurdles in digital transformation despite having high-potential herbal products. Using a participatory approach, this program implemented a comprehensive strategy involving upstream production standardization, visual branding restructuring, and downstream digital marketing optimization. The concrete outputs of this program include standardized professional packaging designs, a curated digital product catalog, and a verified e-commerce presence on the Shopee platform. Results from pre-test and post-test evaluations indicated a significant increase in the partners' cognitive and practical mastery, rising from an average of 42% to 88%, with a mean difference of 46%. This intervention effectively shifted the group’s operations from traditional, limited local sales to a broader digital market reach, lowering psychological barriers toward technology adoption and establishing a robust digital presence for local herbal products. The synergy between academia and local stakeholders proved essential in accelerating economic independence for women-led micro-enterprises.

Abstract

Cantang grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × Epinephelus lanceolatus) is a high-value aquaculture commodity in Indonesia. However, small-scale farmers in remote areas such as Bohe Silian Village, Berau, frequently suffer significant economic losses due to high fish mortality rates caused by poor health management and fluctuating water quality. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a strategic educational intervention in enhancing farmers' technical capacity for fish health management in floating net cages (Keramba Jaring Apung/ KJA). A participatory community empowerment approach was employed, combining theoretical socialization, on-site demonstrations, and intensive mentoring. The results program significantly improved farmers' multidimensional knowledge and technical skills in water quality and disease management, with success rates of 79%, 97%, 79%, and 80%, across technical, ecological, economic, and social aspects, respectively. Ultimately, the initiative demonstrated that participatory education strategies effectively strengthen the resilience of small-scale aquaculture in remote coastal areas.

Abstract

Taxation is a vital instrument within a country's fiscal structure; however, low tax awareness remains a significant challenge in achieving voluntary compliance in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the tax awareness inclusion program as a long-term strategy to build tax-conscious citizenship through secondary education. Utilizing a participatory-educational communication approach, this initiative was conducted at SMPN 1 Cisata, Pandeglang, involving students as active subjects. Data were gathered through participant observation, interactive discussions, and post-socialization evaluations. The findings indicate that the use of adaptive visual media and message simplification effectively reduced negative stigmas and transformed students' understanding of tax roles as a social contract and a national development instrument. This study concludes that early internalization of taxation values not only enhances cognitive fiscal literacy but also positions students as potential agents of change in influencing public perception within their families. Strategic recommendations are directed towards systematic curricular integration to ensure the sustainability of a tax-aware culture in the future.
