Abstract

Self-medication or self-medication is a behavior to deal with minor illnesses before seeking help from an officer or health facility. More than 60% of community members do self-medication, and 80% of them rely on modern medicine. Indonesian medicine sources cover three interconnected sectors namely household medicine (self-medication), traditional medicine, and professional medical treatment. In Indonesia, residents who complained of pain during the last 1 month in 2004 were 24.41%. The treatment search efforts carried out by the people who complained of pain were mostly self-medication (87.37%). In this study aims to determine the knowledge of attitudes and actions of self-medication in the environment of 18 binjai red markets in Medan district. The number of samples to be tested is 97 by means of retrieval carried out descriptive research method, cross-sectional design using accidental sampling by processing spss data. The results of the study in general, the majority of respondents in choosing drugs were mostly limited use of over-the-counter drugs as many as 48 people (49.5%), the majority of respondents buying drugs in drug stores were 45 people (46.6%), the majority of fever complaints were 37 people (38.1% ), the reason for buying over-the-counter medicines mostly chose to save costs as many as 51 people (52.6%), the source of information was mostly from other people's recommendations, with respondents aged 30-40 as many as 39 people (40.2%), income 1,000,000-2,500,000 33 respondents (34.0%). In sufficient knowledge there were 53 people (54.6%). For self-medication actions in the environmental community 18 red markets, the binjai village received sufficient results, namely 50 people (51.5%). In general, the majority of respondents have sufficient attitudes towards self-medication, as many as 49 people (50.5%). Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the health department to further improve health promotion, especially about self-medication so that public awareness can be further improved to carry out self-medication.

Abstract

The skin is the most extensive human body organ that protects the skin from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Excessive exposure to sunlight can cause other diseases that are harmful to human health, such as inflammation of the skin or burning skin. The natural defense system of human skin cannot protect the skin perfectly so it takes a sunscreen to help prevent damage to various skin conditions. Sunflower oil is a vegetable oil that is rich in vitamin E which acts as an antioxidant. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding various variations of sunflower oil concentration to the SPF value of sunscreen lotion. The sunscreen lotion is made in 5 formulas namely Formula 1 (base lotion), Formula 2 (base of positive control), Formula 3 (1% sunflower oil), Formula 4 (5% sunflower oil) and Formula 5 (sunflower oil) 10%). Formula 2 to Formula 5 is added with octyl methoxycinamate (7.5%) and titanium dioxide (2.5%). Determination of SPF value was carried out by spectrophotometry Uv-Vis at wavelengths of 290-320 nm. The SPF results indicate that the higher the concentration of sunflower oil, the higher the SPF value produced. Formula 1 SPF values ​​are 11.71, Formula 2 is 20.73, Formula 3 is 22.98, Formula 4 is 24.66 and Formula 5 is 28.18. From the results of this study, it was concluded that the addition of various concentrations of sunflower oil can increase the SPF value.

Abstract

Fruits are a type of food that contains nutrients, vitamins and minerals which are generally very good for consumption every day. Vitamin C is one of the vitamins contained in fruits. Vitamin C is a micronutrient that is indispensable for body metabolism. In addition, vitamin C also plays a role in immune function or immune. Various analyzes were carried out to determine the level of vitamin C. This study aims to determine the effect of varieties on the vitamin C content in melon fruits. Examination of vitamin content was carried out using the ultraviolet spectrophotometric method. Determination of vitamin C levels in several melon varieties by ultraviolet spectrophotometry shows that the vitamin C content in green local melons is 1.4528 mg / 100 g and the vitamin C content in orange local melons is 1.6118 mg / 100 g. Higher levels of vitamin C were found in the orange melon fruit varieties compared to the lowest levels of vitamin C in the green melon fruit varieties. This can occur because vitamin C levels are widely distributed in plants, vitamin C levels can vary due to several factors such as the variety of plants, processing, temperature, leaving a long time open to air (oxidation), harvesting time, storage, and the latter is where it grows. There were differences in vitamin C levels in several varieties of melon which was determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The highest vitamin C content is in orange melon.

Abstract

Onion which is a species Alium cepa L. is the name of the plant of the family Lilliaceae. This research was conducted to get antidandruff shampoo of extract ethanol onion (Allium cepa L.) that has the best antifungal activity. This research method used an experimental method. The result of this study prove that the etanol extract of onion (Allium cepa L.) can be formulated as antidandruff shampoo that meets the requirements according to standard of Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The results of antifungal activity test showed that shampoo with a concentration of 5% with a diameter of 34.25 mm had the best antifungal activity followed by 2,5% shampoo with a diameter of 30,5 mm and a shampoo concentration of 1% with a diameter of 27,25 mm to inhibit the growth of Pityrosporum fungi ovale. Data analysis of antifungal test result was done by One Way Anova statistical test. The results showed that there were significant differences between the antidandruff shampoo onion (Allium cepa L.) extract 1%, 2,5%, and 5% concentration.

Abstract

Fruits are a type of food that contains nutrients, vitamins and minerals which are generally very good for consumption every day. Vitamin C is one of the vitamins contained in fruits. The loss of vitamin C in fruit processing depends on the type and process used, as well as the water-soluble vitamins. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of heating temperature and heating time on the vitamin C content in melon juice. The method used in this research is using the ultraviolet spectrophotometric method. Green melon juice was treated with heating temperature and heating time with variations in heating temperature (30 ° C, 60 ° C, and 90 ° C) and variations in heating time (15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes). The results showed that the orange melon juice and green melon juice by heating decreased the Vitamin C content. Heating of fruit juices often occurs during the sterilization process, so if the vitamin content in the material is to be maintained, sterilization must be carried out in a very short time. Heating temperature and heating time have a significant effect on the content of vitamin C in green and orange melon juice.

Abstract

Paracetamol is paraaminophenol which is a metabolite of phenacetin and has been used since 1893, paracetamol (acetaminophen) has a working power analgesics, antipyretics, not has anti- inflammatory work power and does not cause irritation and inflammation of the stomach. According to Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health in paragraph 1 article 105, it is stated that pharmaceutical preparations in the form of drugs and medicinal raw materials must meet the requirements of Indonesian Pharmacopoeia or other standard books.Thepurpose of this study was to determine paracetamol levels in tablet preparations with a trade name and generic and to determine the suitability of the requirements of Indonesian Pharmacopoeia.Determination of paracetamol levels by Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectrophotometry using methanol solvent in the wave number range 4000 - 650 cm-1.The results showed that paracetamol levels in Sanmol®tablets (102,69±9,35)%; Erphamol®tablets(95,42 ± 0,26)%; Farmadol®tablets (99,67±9,87)%; Biogesic®tablets (96,7±2,14)%; Paracetamol tablets (97,98± 0.29)%. From the method validation, the results of the recovery test was 100,18%, RSD was 0.03%, and LOD and LOQ respectively was 0.0973 mg / mL and 0,3244 mg / mL. These results indicate that the method performed shows accurate and precise results. The results of this study concluded that the determination of paracetamol levels could be carried out by Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectrophotometry and the levels of paracetamol tablets had met the requirements.

Abstract

Metronidazole is a type of antibiotic that has been widely used since 1960, and has been shown to be active against various anaerobic bacteria in vitro and experimental infections. According to Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health in paragraph 1 of article 105, it is stated that pharmaceutical preparations in the form of drugs and medicinal raw materials must meet the requirements of the Indonesian Pharmacopoeia or other standard books. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of metronidazole in tablets with trade names and generics and to determine the conformity of the levels to the requirements of the Indonesian Pharmacopoeia. Determination of paracetamol levels by Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) Spectrophotometry using methanol solvent in the range of wave numbers 400 – 4000 cm-1. The results showed that the concentration of metronidazole in Novagyl® tablets (97.45 ± 0.36)%; Trichodazole® tablets (97.41 0.36)%; Metronidazole® tablets (94.42 0.40)%; Omenizole® tablets (99.07 0.13)%; Farizol® tablets (92.12 1.39)%. From the validation of the method carried out, the results of the recovery test were 100.9%, RSD 0.07%, and had LOD and LOQ of 3.3351 mg/mL and 11.1110 mg/mL respectively. These results indicate that the method used shows accurate and thorough results. The results of the study concluded that the determination of metronidazole levels could be carried out using Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectrophotometry and the levels of metronidazole tablets met the requirements.

Abstract

Scrub cream is a pharmaceutical preparation which function is to remove dead skin cells, moisturize and brighten the skin with the help of scrub ingredients. One of the natural ingredients used as raw material for scrub cream is fragrant pandan (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.). The aim of this study was to make a cream scrub preparation from pandan extract with various concentrations of 3%, 3.5% and 4%. This research was conducted experimentally. Preparation testing includes organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, irritation test, spreadability test, stability test, and emulsion type test. The results of the physical quality inspection of the scrub cream from pandan Wangi extract showed that the preparation was homogeneous, had an M/A emulsion type, had a pH value of 6.1-6.5, did not cause irritation and did not change during storage for 4 weeks except for the preparation with a concentration of 3.5% because the preparation underwent a change in the breakdown of the emulsion in the preparation on storage starting from the 3rd week. From the research that has been done, it can be concluded that Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb extract can be formulated as a scrub cream with a variation of concentration of 3%; 3.5% and 4% and does not irritate the volunteers' skin.

Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that have been developed in the health and food fields, such as food preservatives and as treatments that are triggered by free radicals. The aim of this study was to determine and compare the antioxidant potential of Wardah aloe vera and Nature Republic aloe vera 92%. The research method used the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 517 nm. Antioxidant activity test of Wardah aloe vera and Nature Republic aloe vera 92% preparations at concentrations of 50 µg/ml, 100 µg/ml, 150 µg/ml, 200 µg/ml. Vitamin C at a concentration of 2.5 µg/ml, 5 µg/ml, 10 µg/ml, 15 µg/ml as a positive control. The IC50 value for the Wardah aloe vera preparation was 199.207 µg/ml, Nature Republic aloe vera 92% was 185.641 µg/ml. The IC50 value of Vitamin C is very strong, namely 16.9235 µg/ml. The conclusion is that the preparations of Wardah aloe vera and Nature Republic aloe vera 92% have moderate antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Basil leaves contain secondary metabolites such as tannins, saponins, flavonoids and essential oils which have potential as antimicrobials. The aim of this study was to determine the ability of basil leaf extract as a natural preservative for mackerel. The study was conducted in vitro by observing the pH characteristics of mackerel treated with basil extract soaking for 4 and 8 hours with various concentrations of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%. The results showed that the physical quality of the samples during 4 hours of storage had the highest pH value at a concentration of 25%, namely pH 6.41, while at 8 hours of storage, the highest pH value was at a concentration of 100%, namely pH 7.47. The conclusion of the change in pH after soaking with the extract is included in the neutral category.
