Abstract

Pandan leaf (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) is a plant that grows wild, which belongs to the Pandanaceae tribe which is used as a natural medicine. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of the handwashing soap formulation of pandan leaf extract against Salmonella sp bacteria and which concentration was the most effective. Extracts were made by maceration method using 96% ethanol as solvent. Formulation with mass 1 and mass 2. Testing of antibacterial effectiveness was carried out by diffusion method using disc paper. The results of the examination of the simplicia characterization of pandan leaves were determined to determine the water content of 0.1575%, the determination of the content of the water soluble extract was 0.1233%, the determination of the concentration of the soluble extract in ethanol was 0.0054%, the determination of the ash content of 0.1575%, the determination of the content of the acid insoluble extract. 0.0101%. Simplicia screening results contain alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and polyphenols. The yield of pandan leaf extraction is 90 g. The results of testing the effectiveness of Salmonella sp antibacterial on the diameter of the most effective inhibition zone was obtained at a concentration of 15% with a diameter of 22.70 mm. The results of the research, it can be concluded that the formulation of hand soap preparations with pandan leaf extract has antibacterial effectiveness against Salmonella sp.

Abstract

One of the causes of acne is due to a bacterial infection such as Propionibacterium acnes during adolescent puberty. Empirical studies of secondary metabolites contained in Cep-cepan leaves have potential as promising antimicrobials. The main objective of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of Cep-cepan leaves formulated into a gel preparation against the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes that causes acne. This research method was carried out experimentally where the ethanol extract of cep-cepan leaves was formulated into a gel preparation consisting of (F1) control blank; (F2) 0.5%, (F3) 1%, (F4) 1.5% and positive control (Mediklin). The results of the evaluation of gel preparations at concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% were physically stable during storage at room temperature, homogeneous, and pH. Based on the results of testing the antibacterial activity of gel preparations in inhibiting bacterial growth at a concentration of 0.5% with an average inhibition zone diameter of 11.33 mm, a concentration of 1% with a value of 15.66 mm, a concentration of 1.5% with a value of 19.5 mm. The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of cep-cepan leaves has promising antibacterial activity in the form of a gel formulation.

Abstract

Flower moon herb is a type of plant that is known and used as traditional medicine in Indonesia from generation to generation. In previous studies it was known that moonflower (Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl) Gray) had antihyperglycemic, antidiabetic, antimicrobial and antimalarial effects.According to previous research, it is also known that the roots, stems, leaves and volatile oil of moonflower (Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl) Gray) contain alkaloids, phenolic compounds, steroids, saponins and flavonoids. The purpose of this study was to determine the ethanol activity of the moonflower herb against Candida albicans and Microsporum canis.This research was conducted in several stages, starting with the process of collecting and processing samples, testing the characteristics of simplicia, maceration of the ethanol extract of the moonflower herb (Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl) Gray) and testing its antifungal activity.The results of the research that the moonflower herb has a water content of about 10.2%. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the ethanolic extract of the cauliflower herb against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 was found at a concentration of 100 mg/mL, which was 9.03 mm, while in Microsporum canis it was found at a concentration of 200 mg/mL, which was 4.11 mm.

Abstract

Moonflower herb extract (Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl) Grey, Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and antifungal activity testing. The results showed that moonflower herbs had a moisture content of about 10.2%. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) tested moonflower herbs against n-hexane extract containing polyphenolic compounds and steroids.The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of n-hexane extract of moonflower herb against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 was at a concentration of 400 mg/mL which was 7.8 mm, while Microsporum canis at a concentration of 200 mg /mL is 7.28 mm.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis which attacks the lungs and bronchi. Anti-tuberculosis drugs consist of isoniazid, ethambutol, pyrazinamide, rifampicin and streptomycin which must be consumed for 6 months. OAT has side effects, especially disturbing liver function, one of which is bilirubin. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment derived from the heme reshuffle of hemoglobin in the process of erythrocyte breakdown by reticuloendothelial cells. This research is desktiptif. This study aims to describe the total bilirubin levels in pulmonary tuberculosis patients after 5 months of consuming anti-tuberculosis drugs in TK.IV.01.07.02 Binjai Army Hospital in May-June. This study was taken from 53 samples of total bilirubin levels in tuberculosis patients who had consumed OAT for 5 months. The results of the 53 samples found normal total bilirubin levels of (77.40%) and increased by (22.60%). Frequency distribution in male sex (56.6%) women (43.4%). Total bilirubin levels increased more in male patients (13.21%). The increase in total bilirubin occurred at> 56 years of age. Total bilirubin levels increased more in female patients (9.43%).

Abstract

Corona virus are a large family of viruses that can cause disease in humans. Examination of Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) is an examination using in vitro techniques for determining or measuring the extent and nature of the template DNA (DNA chain) in real time. Antigen Swab a rapid diagnostic test for Covid-19 to detect the presence of antigens from the corona virus. antibody rapid test examination is an initial screening method for detecting IgM and IgG antibodies. This research is descriptive to get an overview of the result Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) examination in patients who have been confirmed positive on the antigen swab and reactive on the antibody rapid test. The population in this study were patients who were confirmed positive for swab antigens totaling 183 samples and confirmed antibody reactive totaling 117 samples who underwent a follow up examination of Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR). There were positive RT-PCR results on the antigen swab examination as many as 162 samples (88.5%) and 21 (11.5%) negative results and positive RT-PCR results on the antibody rapid test examination as many as 34 samples (29.1 %) and obtained negative results as many as 83 (70.9%). The results of this study are expected to be a science for the public in knowing supporting laboratory tests in detecting the corona virus.

Abstract

Acne is one of the physical problems experienced during adolescence. The prevalence of acne sufferers in Indonesia ranges from 80-85% in adolescents with a peak incidence of 15-18 years of age. Acne often causes a lack of self-confidence of a teenager. A teenager with acne will try to treat it and treatment in general will be done with self-medication. A person's knowledge and attitude will affect the individual's way of behaving, including in carrying out treatment by means of self-medication. This research was conducted on teenagers in Ujung Tanduk Village, Laguboti District, Toba Regency where there were 60 populations and samples were taken as many as 45 respondents, which were collected in WhatsApp groups. Based on the research that has been carried out, 64.4% of respondents have good knowledge and the remaining 35.6% are knowledgeable enough and there are 48.9% of respondents who have good attitudes, 33.3% are moderate and 17.8% have poor attitudes, and found a relationship between knowledge and good attitudes. evidenced by the results of statistical tests (Chi Square test) where the p value <0.05.

Abstract

The avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a fruit that is often found. This versatile fruit has many benefits for humans. The benefits of avocado are as anti-hyperlipidemic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, hypoglycemic, hypercholesterolemic, wound healing and prevent cancer. The aims of this study was to make avocado seed methanol extract into a gel preparation and to determine the effect of avocado seed methanol extract gel and at what concentration the effective treatment for wounds in mice and its comparison with Star Ag gel as a positive control. The research was conducted using an experimental method. The manufacture of avocado seed methanol exstract was carried out by maceration method using methanol as a solvent. The result of the study were statistically analyzed using One Way Anova. The result of the data analysis at a concentration of 5% obtained a sig value <0,05. Based on One Way Anova analysis of the five treatments, the most effective was avocado seed methanol extract gel with a concentration of 5%.

Abstract

The investigation had been done about hypoglycaemic effect from Clinachanthus nutans (Burm f.) Lindau extract, which in petroleum ether extract and ethyl acetate extract, that used Glucose Method Tolerance for Mice. The extract of Clinachanthus nutans (Burm f.) Lindau leave was carried out by masseration and using ethanol 80% as solvent, and gradually fractination for ethanol extract with petroleum ether and ethyl acetate solvent. Further, the glucose tolerance had been done for petroleum ether fraction and ethyl acetate. The mice was fasting during 17 hours and the blood glucose level and weight of mice was measured and given the 50% glucose liquid with dose 4 mg/kg bw. After 30 minutes the blood glucose level can be measure again. Divided the mice to 6 group, Group I: control (CMC 0,5% dose 1 % bw); Group II until Group V given the petroleum ether fraction and ethyl acetate fraction with dose 15, 30, 45 dan 60 mg/kg bw; Group VI: given the Glibenclamid suspension dose 1 mg/kg bw as equal. Fixed blood glucose level of mice after 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 minutes to have use of glucometer (EZ Smart). The result showed that petroleum ether extract doesn’t have hypoglycaemic effect, but in dose 45 and 60 mg/kg bw has given hypoglycaemic effect which to get near Glibenclamid suspension in dose 1 mg/ kg bw with blood glucose level decrease 0,05 (ɑ=0,05).

Abstract

Antibiotics are drugs used for infections caused by bacteria. Amoxicillin and tertacycline are antibiotics used to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli. Escherichia coli bacteria can cause urinary tract infections, diarrhea, gastroenteritis, pneumonia, septicemia, and meningitis. The purpose of this study was to determine the diameter of the inhibition zone of amoxicillin and tetracycline antibiotics in inhibiting Escherichia coli bacteria. Experimental research method with antibacterial activity test using paper disc diffusion method. The results showed that amoxicillin and tetracycline antibiotics had inhibition zone diameters of 18.4 mm and 35.76 mm, respectively, with strong and very strong categories. The conclusion of this study is that tetracycline antibiotics are better at inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria than amoxicillin.
