Abstract

In the era of high market competition, product development must implement excellent innovation and responsiveness toward customer needs. One of the tools that had been successfully applied to support this objective is Kansei Engineering. Kansei is a Japanese word that refers to perception, impression, and feeling. Kansei Engineering is the process to collect product information based on the psychological emotions and feelings of customers. These represent customers' general impressions and emotions towards certain products or services which are then translated into characteristic designs. In this research, the researcher uses the Kansai engineering is applied to design new packaging for West Sumatra Sanjai Chips produced by local small-medium enterprise (SME). In processing the data, the researcher carried out a sampling technique, determining the number of respondents with the number of respondents being 100 in the first stage and 15 respondents in the second stage. From the first stage, eight Kansei words were collected. Followed by the second stage which was able to classify the most significant Kansei words based on the customer opinions. It was demonstrated from the investigation that new packaging was designed. With the new design it is expected that customers will become more aware and attracted to purchase the product.

Abstract

The main purpose of processing palm oil is to produce Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and reduce fossil fuels. In January-June 2021, the CPO produced does not meet the company's quality standards that have been agreed with consumers. Under these conditions, it is necessary to carry out production analysis activities to measure the quality of CPO, using Seven Tools method and apply the Kaizen concept. Which aims to improve the quality of CPO and improve the work system at an oil palm plantation and processing in West Sumatra. Based on the results of the analysis of CPO quality using the Seven Tools method, it is known that the low quality of CPO is caused by 3 factors, namely free fatty acid content, water content and dirt content. Where from the calculation results using the Seven Tools, the highest level that affects the low quality of CPO is the Free Fatty Acid (ALB) content which happened 20 times, followed by 15 times the dirt content and 11 times the water content in the mentioned time period. The proposal for improving the work system with the Kaizen Concept uses the 5W+1H and PDCA methods, namely, collecting fruit right after harvesting and processing oil palm fruit quickly. In order not to accumulate in a long time, the fruit sorting process is carried out carefully so that the oil palm fruit is processed according to predetermined standards, providing training based on the employee's work division so that problems do not occur, employees are encouraged to take advantage of the rest time well, so that when working can concentrate, perform inspections and maintain overall cleanliness.

Abstract

Many industries have been in demand for metal matrix composites (MMC), especially in the aerospace and automotive sectors. The advancement of MMC is being investigated to improve the material's mechanical properties. MMC is a composite material consisting of at least two materials. One of them would act as a matrix, and the other materials would serve as reinforcement. MMC allows for overcoming the specific limitations of metallic and ceramic materials by blending their mutually exclusive property profiles. The main objective of this research is to successfully fabricate aluminium and graphite metal matrix composites using powder metallurgy. In this research, powder metallurgy was used, where aluminium and graphite were blended according to the sample volume ratio. Both graphite and aluminium were in the form of metal powder. Graphite powder with each ratio of volume percentages of 0%, 1.5%, 3%, 4.5%, and 6% was mixed with aluminium powder. The blended material is produced by powder metallurgy via the compaction process using the hydraulic press brake machine. Subsequently, the compacted sample was sintered using a laboratory furnace at 600°C for 4 hours. The mechanical tests show that the highest tensile strength and Young's modulus were obtained by MMC aluminium – 1.5 % volume graphite. While for the highest hardness was achieved by aluminium – 4 % volume graphite.

Abstract

Therapy is a form of health service to develop, maintain, and restore body movement and function by using manual handling and equipment. One of the therapies that many people need is for relaxation and reducing fatigue. One alternative is to use water as a medium (hydrotherapy). The pressure and temperature of the water used for shower therapy has been shown to provide physiological changes in humans. Shower therapy with warm water is strongly influenced by room temperature. The difference in outdoor air temperature (room) with the temperature of the water for bathing is very large will cause serious physiological problems. Therefore, to prevent the risk of differences in room temperature and water temperature being too large when bathing and/or shower therapy, a water temperature control system is needed that can maintain the temperature difference at a certain level. With a fuzzy logic controller system, the water temperature will be able to be controlled to adjust the outdoor air temperature (room). By adjusting the value of delta (∆) outside air temperature and water temperature, extreme temperature differences can be handled. The prototype of the water temperature control system in shower therapy with fuzzy logic has been successfully created with minimal functions with a water mixer system using solenoid valves. The water mixer can work at a minimum with the water temperature output which is still unstable and less accurate with a fairly high deviation. Setting the value of ΔT >5 produces a more stable water temperature output with an average deviation of <10%. The effect of pressure and water flow has not been seen and has not been observed.

Abstract

The combination of parameters in the product printing process with Polylactic Acid (PLA) material using the ANET ET4 PRO 3D printer is carried out to obtain optimal parameters to produce accurate dimensions in the printing process. The most popular type of 3D printer is the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) type, which uses melted plastic raw materials to form products. In the existing printing process, the accuracy of the dimension is the main problem owned by users of this 3D printer technology. Especially when these products have to be assembled into a mechanism. The resulting accuracy is greatly influenced by the selection of process parameters used during the printing process. The parameter optimization process using the Taguchi method was chosen because this method is very good at overcoming deviations from the target so that the best quality of the product can be achieved. The optimization process of this parameter will be carried out using a ring-shaped specimen with an outer diameter of 30 mm, an inner diameter of 20 mm, and a height of 20 mm. This deviation in the size of the inner diameter of the ring would be the reference for measuring the quality of the printed object. From the experiments, the most optimal level values for each factor were as follows: the Nozzle Temperature was 200 °C, the Bed Temperature was 62 °C, the Room Temperature was 34 °C, the Infill Percentage was 40%, the Layer Height was 0.25 mm, the Printing Speed was 20 mm⁄s.
