Abstract

Microorganisms such as Escherichia coli in water are a component that is difficult to remove in conventional water treatment systems. Several systems have been implemented to reduce levels of microorganisms is the use of disinfectants, the membrane filtration and activated carbon absorption. These systems have several weaknesses, so that not all microorganisms can be removed from drinking water. The plasma system is an applicable technology for removing organic compounds and microorganisms in drinking water. By creating plasma in water will produce several of active species such as OH-, H+, O3 and H2O2 that has a high oxidation potential, decompose organic compounds and kill microorganisms in the water significantly. This paper will describe the removal of microorganisms in drinking water using a plasma system by the method of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD ). The results howed that the pH of drinking water produced in the range 6.5 to 7.3. The higher voltage causes the higher the conductivity, temperature and ORP water. Removal efficiency for the content of microorganisms Coli Fecal and Coliform in the range 99.2 to 100% after water was injected voltage of 13-17 kV for 10 minutes.

Abstract

Digital image processing and computer vision technologies have developed so rapidly and have numerous applications. Automatic lisence plate recognition systems (ALPRS) based on those technologies are not exceptions. In general, the ALPRSs required several steps including image capturing, plate location searching, character segmentation and character recognition. Successful of the whole systems depended heavily on the used segmentation method. A common drawback of many segmentation techniques is that they are very sensitive to illumination variability. The paper proposed a method for license plate recognition based on correlation of phase componenet with limited bandwidth. The method is widely known as band-limited phase only correlation (BLPOC). The method compared input plate’s image with plate’s images in the database. Based on simulation, detection rate can achieve 90% if an appropriate threshold value was selected.

Abstract

Voltage and current harmonics produced by nonlinear loads which reduce electrical power quality and energy saving lamp is one of example of it. This research was done by performing studies in harmonic voltage and harmonic current from four different brands of energy saving lamp having power rating of 8 watt, 16 watt, and 20 watt and uses IEEE Standard of 519-1992 as a reference in determining maximum limitation voltage and current harmonics. The result of the tests were showed that total harmonic distortion (THD) voltage at each different brand of energy saving lamp having power rating of 8 watt, 16 watt, and 20 watt did not exceed the IEEE 519-1992 maximum limitation of 5%. While total harmonic distortion (THD) current at each different brand of energy saving lamp having power rating of 8 watt, 16 watt, and 20 watt had exceed result range exceeding 71,2%. After using low pass RC filter as passive electronic circuit, the total harmonic distortion (THD) current was obtained for each different brand of energy saving lamp having power rating of 8 watt, 16 watt, and 20 watt, it was showed that the range of total harmonic distortion (THD) current under 14,262%.

Abstract

One of the technical aspects that support the optimal operation planning of a power plant when viewed in terms of system reliability and economic is about short-term load forecasting. The objective of this research is to forcasting hourly short-term electric load peak (17:30 to 22:30 GMT) at loading area of Transmission Distribution Banda Aceh Unit of PT. PLN P3B Aceh 150-20 kV by using Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) method. The toolbox used to predict short-term electric load in this research is by using MATLAB software R2007b and Microsoft Excel 2007. ANFIS structure is trained using ANFIS Sugeno models, three types of membership functions with three and four fuzzy sets for each type of membership function. ANFIS structure is trained using a hybrid algorithm. From the simulation results obtained that the structure of the input membership functions of ANFIS 3 gbell with three fuzzy sets as the ideal structure. Further results of ANFIS estimation compared with the moving average method. From the simulation results is shown that ANFIS models generate MAPE 3.42%, while the forecasts using the moving average method generate MAPE 6.58%.

Abstract

This paper presents MATLAB/Simulink based modelling and simulation of rotor motion of 3-phase variable reluctance stepper motor to show electromechanical conversion process inside the motor when electricity fed to the motor. Stator part of the motor has a pair of salient pole per phase and rotor part has 8 teeth. Stator windings are wound around stator salient poles, while rotor part has no windings. Simulation process is started by the work to derive rotor motion equation based on stepper motor construction data using energy in coupling field method, then the equation is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink program. Simulating by variation of stator current frequency shows rotor part of the stepper motor rotates in 15 degree steps for any variant of stator current frequency.

Abstract

Planning of secondary distribution for residence is important that should consider the load, plan the distribution network, choose the conductor and determine the transformer capacity needed. In this planning, Manulai II Resident is counted as simple household that the transformer is divided into two different areas A and B. Twisted Cable NFA2X size 3x70mm; 3x35mm; 4x25mm; and 2x10mm are used. The research shows that losses and voltage drop are still in tolerance limit and the capacity needed for area A is 50 kVA and 25 kVA for area B.

Abstract

Polymer insulators have become an alternative to change the ceramic insulator because it has a better dielectric properties, mass density is lighter and can be made at room temperature vulcanized so it is economically more advantageous. But, the disadvantage is prone to degradation due to environmental factors such as ultraviolet radiation, temperature, humidity or rain, and pollution, especially if located in the tropical areas. To overcome these disadvantages, silane materials was added to epoxy resin. This study uses an epoxy resin polymer material made of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) and metaphenylene diamine (MPDA) and silane. Ratio of epoxy resin and silane were 60% and 40% respectively. Dimensions of the test material were 120 mm x 50 mm x 5 mm. The Inclined-Plane Tracking (IPT) method according to standard IEC 587:1984 was used. The NH4Cl and Gresik Industrial and Parangtritis beach contaminants were used in this research to compare it others. The results showed that the test sample with a contact angle 86.18Omore resistant to leakage current and insulation failure, it was indicated by the timing of the discharge in 17.001 s and insulation failure in 17.812 s. When a sample tests more hydrophobic then the leakage current and insulation failure longer to occurs. The degradation phenomenon is most severe damage from a beach Parangtritis contaminant than industrial and NH4Cl contaminants.

Abstract

Aceh merupakan salah satu wilayah di Indonesia yang rawan terhadap bencana alam seperti gempa bumi, tanah longsor, letusan gunung api, kemarau, abrasi, tsunami, banjir dan lain-lain. Salah satu faktor pengurangan risiko bencana (PRB) adalah tersedianya informasi yang dapat diakses oleh publik. Sehingga aplikasi web sistem informasi geografis untuk multi risiko bencana sangat penting di Aceh. Aplikasi ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan kesiap-siagaan dari pengambil keputusan dan masyarakat dalam upaya PRB. Aplikasi ini dibangun dan dirancang berdasarkan arsitektur client-server dengan menggunakan software open source sebagai penyedia data geospatial yang dapat diakses melalui web berbasis sistem informasi geografis (SIG). Adapun hasil aplikasinya adalah visualisasi peta-peta multi risiko bencana alam Aceh yang dapat memberikan informasi daerah rawan bencana kepihak terkait dengan cepat, tepat dan akurat secara online melalui internet.

Abstract

Proportional-Integral-Derivative ( PID) represents the popular controller which is frequently used in industry and instrumentation equipments. Although in simple design procedure, tuning of PID parameters ( Kp, KiAnd Kd) to get the optimal value is not easy and simple. Genetic Algorithm method with the Fuzzy Logic system is used to get the PID parameters with optimal performance result. Genetic Algorithm is a method that used to solve a problem of optimization based on selection and genetic evolution, while system of fuzzy logic is used to determine the geneticparameter like crossover probability and mutation. In this research, Genetic Algorithm with the Fuzzy Logic system is forming model of direct-current motor to get the parameters of PID controller based on value of mean square error ( MSE). This Examination yielded the stable response system with the value MSE gyrate 0.0027 until 0.0028 and steady state error gyrate 0.004 until 0.001.
